In my experience, changing wiper blades will always go 1 of 2 ways: 1. Remove old blade and install new one - 1 minute 2. Spend 10 minutes trying to get the old one off, then give up for 10 minutes. Return to vehicle and try for another 10 minutes, get pissed off and give up. Return after a 10 minute cool down period with a screwdriver and start prying at plastic bits. Break various plastic bits, then try to remove blade again. Get pissed off and become more aggressive with screwdriver. Cut finger after misguided gouging with screwdriver. Go back inside to treat wound and make a bloody mess while trying to open a band aid wrapper with 1 hand while keeping pressure on wound with other.. Now that you're absolutely furious, return to vehicle (wearing gloves now) with needle nose pliers and break all remaining plastic bits. Try to remove blade. Realize that there are metal tabs keeping blade locked in place - proceed to mangle metal tabs with pliers - ta da! Remove old wiper blade and install new one - 1 hour.

I've seen cars that automatically re-park the blades even after the key is off. There is a "wiper change" setting that is accessible on these cars. This is where the owner's manual, as you pointed out, is invaluable.

A nice, clear video is a good thing. Replacing the wipers while dealing with Parkinson's adds a lot of frustration for me, and comedy for others. At least now I should be able to do it with a minimum of both frustration and laughs.

Thank you Eric! I like your method of running the wipers until they are pointing up. When I change wiper blades, I use an old T-shirt or a cleaning rag. After I remove the first wiper, I rest the wiper arm against the windshield with the T-shirt for padding. This way I don't have to worry about the wiper arm smacking into the windshield! Here's a helpful thing for everyone to know! On a cold winter day, if you start the car, turn on the windshield wipers and they don't move because they are frozen in place, then you need to get out and break those wipers free! Otherwise the wipers will still be trying to finish their sweep, even though you turned them off. And you will likely burn out your windshield wiper motor. I learned this from Bill Osborne, my high school buddy. This happened to Bill's mom. Her windshield wipers were frozen, so she drove to work with the defroster on high, but the windshield wipers were still trying to move. That burned out her windshield wiper motor. So Bill replaced the windshield wiper motor for her. Happy New Year Everyone!

I bought replacement blades a year ago and have been waiting (and waiting) for dear hubby to replace them, but a year later, I was still waiting. Not even his father's scolding ("Your wife and children ride in this car!") worked, so I took matters into my own hands and went to KZfaq--where else?!--for help and was lucky enough to found your video! Thanks to you, it literally took me only two minutes to switch out both blades. It actually took me longer to get my keys to turn on the car so the blades were in the vertical position (great tip) and then to find something to stand on, since I couldn't reach the passenger-side blade without a boost! Thanks for this! I have to add one tip for extreme newbies like me: there may be a protective covering on your new wiper blade, which needs to be removed. I ACTUALLY didn't NOTICE and it took me half a day to figure out why my brand new, top of the line wiper was totally ineffective. Go ahead and laugh at me: i did too! For me this would have been easy, but for others they may have not known how simple it is to change your own wiper blades.... Rob & I were at a gas station not to long ago, when a girl pulled in got out of her car and began walking around it looking for a place that she could put gas in, she asked a person there if they could help her but all they done was laugh at her which made her cry... Tip: Wipers that don't have adequate pressure against the windshield won't wipe very well. This happens because age has weakened the spring in the wiper arm. Instead of buying new arms you can save money by buying shorter wiper blades. Less surface area means more pressure against the glass. Try a blade about 3" shorter than the original blade.

Thanks for the video. Just a note that on my wiper blades I had to pull the clip apart instead of pinch it together to get it to come off. It sounds counter-intuitive but it actually worked. 1:45 in the video, pull the tabs apart instead of pinch.

I've found that auto parts stores know the sizes for your car anyway. The expensive rain-x ones are actually worth the money. No noise, no streaking, but I don't know about how long they'll last.

Thanks..finally got the steps in line....blade out at 45 degrees...push that lil clip down and hold it best you can in the one hand, ... then bumping the blade arm helps dislodge it...don't engage brain....done...put new ones on .....need alcohol to recover from the first futile attempts....learning to tie my shoelaces next.

Eric 1st step at 0:21 & 2:00 is to put a folded wet towel across windshield glass (in case half way thru project) tip of arm slams on glass (shattering it!! ) . Better be safe than sorry

Actually I removed it successfully but was unable to reinstall the new one.I had totally forgotten how to.Thankfully I got this video which had the same type of blades as that of mine!

Great tip getting the blades vertical! Much better angle. Another vid I saw suggested sticking a towel over the windshield while working on blades in case the arm snaps down... as you mention, that would not be a good thing. Thanks for the video.

takes less than an hour labor install this procedure (usually one person) can do this job with only a pliers, wire cutters, and some kind of clamp. tape will work too but a c-clamp is ideal to remove the wiper from the razmatron fittings.

Changed my first set of wiper blades ever with this vid. Took longer to figure out how the bosch icons attached than it was to take them off. I placed a rag underneath where the arms would hit in case it fell back over for whatever reason.

He said your experience will vary. Nearly every wiper blade box has instructions on the back as well, usually with some small diagram.

Like the post below, only I started with a knife, but put it way knowing I would do more damage to myself than the windshield wiper. Next came the screw driver and that was useless. watched a video where the guy in neat uniform went zip, zap, click, done. (Obviously had new blades previously installed to show off with.) I think evil elves welded mine on in the night. But! This video does have a new trick, use wiper motor to put blades up 90 degrees and I really liked it when he gave the old blade a sold whack to knock them off. I'm going to whack my old blades so even if i don't get them off, I'll feel better. Wish me luck. --- It worked! Hit the blade and work it down, thank you Eric da car dude..

Thanks for suggesting to tighten a wiper arm that is not moving correctly. My husband's driver side wiper is skipping, no matter what type of wiper blades he uses. I'll bet you anything it needs to be tightened!! LOL!!

In a modern (from about 2005 to present) VW you can turn the ignition on, turn it back off again while leaving the key in the ignition, and then press down once on the wiper stalk. The window wipers should come up and stop when they are fully up ;)

hey im a little experienced in this field i am an alignment mechanic, it sounds like it could be a few different things. i would have my front end checked because you may have loose or worn parts. and if the parts are not bad. i would have my car thrown up on an alignment rack and have it checked out. just my personal opinion. also while they are checkin the front end have the cars tires re balanced,

lol I just changed mine today when I had the tires rotated and oil changed. I remember the first time I changed my wiper blades, I was in a do it yourself car wash vacuuming my car out right before my first date. It took me almost 10 minutes.. then once I figured it out, I was like do'h! thats simple. :P

At the car supplies store either take the car to the store OR take the both pairing of the old wiper refills into the store then use these as your reference to ensure that you are buying the correct refills. DO NOT OPERATE the wipers on the vehicle if you take the refills off. Some Wiper refills are wider some are narrower some are shorter some are longer some come with plastic backing or metal backing. Ensure you have the correct length and width of refills (IMPORTANT) for both sides to ensure a smooth fit. Weather metal or plastic backing is up to you. Pull Wiper arm outwards most Feed in wiper refill from the bottom first to top of the wiper arm. Grooves (Top of refills) go into wiper arm metal clasps. Then on insertion IMPORTANT:make sure that the wiper refill grooves are inserted into each and every wiper arm clasp on mines there is 6 on one side = shorter length (Right) and 8 on the other = longer length (Left). DO NOT miss a metal clasp and continue using your wipers otherwise you will end up scratching your windscreen. Just check over each clasp and that the refill groove is all in properly on left and right sides x 3 check-over times before testing. Lastly ensure that the metal arrow clips at bottom end of the wiper refills is inserted in all the way and locks into the bottom wiper clasp mechanism. You may have to the trim the refill to suit the size and coverage of your wiper arm/windscreen side ensure a good fit. Last check over firm fit both sides and all clasps are in properly then put arms back to standard position then test. :-).

Use whitening tooth paste to clean up foggy headlights...I take a piece of paper towel and a tube of whitening toothpaste and go to my car. Take the tooth paste, and put little dots (1/4 inch I guess) around your headlight...just enough so that when you spread it around with the paper towel, it'll cover the whole thing. Rub it around, then let it set for 5 minutes. Finally, take another piece of paper towel...add water rub it a little more. Then rinse. Your welcome :)

hi Eric..how r u..?? m having trouble with my 2000 acura tl front tyres...they are worn from outer edges..n in an irregular pattern.. like half of the tire is less worn and other half is getting worse..its on both the tires...n there is also a shaking steering wheel at the speed of 100 kmph..also there is some gargling sound at the tone on which the steering shakes..it shakes very little..one can feel light vibration on his legs while driving...n also its pulling towards right side...

If your wiper is hard to get off, and you keep pressing the tab to release and it won't. Get a medium slotted screw driver, and put it on the release tab and press lightly and pull. It should come off pretty easy. Don't tug on the blade. The release tabs get mushy being on so long. You are now a professional blade remover.

I bought some new wiper blades a little while ago, but they refuse to snap into place. Feels like you could lift the truck by the blades without them snapping. They don't come off, but they do "relax" down on the hook a little bit. The blades did come with another clip which might be right for my application, but the ones that came on the blades were RIVETED in place, so I don't know how Bosch thought the customer was supposed to use the alternate clip. Very strange.

I was going to say the drivers side wiper arm was loose but then you did it anyway :P ps. i wouldnt leave the wiper arm up cause as you mentioned it can ping back, i have a mate who works for aston martin and he did that and cracked a windscreen..... just gently put it back on the windscreen and it wont do anything to the glass.

Just to be safe, for the less experienced at this, better put corrugated cardboard or a coat or thick or folded towel or anything to prevent the bare arm slamming down on the glass or scratching the windshield.

With a Honda Element I found out the hard way it is better to leave the wipers in the down position. It is main an issue with the passenger side.
