I don't play drums. I don't have a specific interest in restoring or building drums. That being said, I fucking love your videos and I wish you made 3 a day! Keep em' coming. quick tip that might work on the discoloration is peroxide(like used for hair), wrap it in clingwrap and then put it in sunlight. it converts a lot of the UV damage back to new looking on lots of plastics that yellow with age. might be a bit of work to rotate the drum around to fix all of it evenly, but it works really well on yellowed computer plastics

I never use sandpaper on wraps. I use Bar Keepers Friend for pretty much every part of the drum. BTW Bar Keepers Friend is the best cymbal cleaner out there, and it's inexpensive. Super simple, no scrubbing. Just wet the cymbal, add BKF, wipe following the grooves, rinse and dry. DONE! 2-3 minutes per cymbal. Drums and chrome are similar, except you don't wet the shell, just apply with a soft damp cloth.

Hey David! First off huge fan of your stuff! I've seen a lot of videos on people taking wraps off of drums and then staining it. I'm wanting to take my kit that I absolutely love and RE-STAIN it from a light maple gloss to a dark walnut satin. I would love to see how to do that properly because I'm scared to death to attempt it!

I find a thin coat of etch primer before a final finish coat adheres well. Same on chrome fittings. Paint sticks better to chrome if it Warmed in the hot sun.

I have a 20-plus year-old Ludwig in Black Oyster Shell 'Bowling Ball" and the white on the wrap has yellowed. Will this work on just the yellowed parts of that wrap?

I have a drum restoration project and I've remove all the wraps and hardwares and I'm planning to have a nice wood style looking on my drums so I brought a 2in1 stain & varnish high-gloss wood dressing. do u think I should buy a polyurethane clear coat finish or not? What steps do i need before I apply the first coat? What number of sandpaper grit should i start first?

You should try "Retro Bright" I watch 8 bit guy on KZfaq and basically it's pro-grade peroxide that you buy at a salon supply store. Rub it on wrap it in cling wrap and throw it in the sun for a couple hours and it restores discolored plastics. Might work for wraps might not. Check out 8 bit guy for more info. He restores like nasty old Macs and whatnot.

Great video as always.... BUT unless you're on an extreme budget and can't afford a rewrap (which there are affordable alternatives), hate to say it, but it's kinda a waste of time. Unless it's a rare or vintage type wrap that's able to be brought back.

hey david, i have sort of inherited an old export kit. its in horrible condition though. it has stood in a nasty, moist room for ever and all the lug screws are rusted. The rust has also afflicted the shells themselves, so the wood has started to foul. is there anything youd recommend i could do to stop things from getting worse and maybe save the shells? thanks!
