Even though you're left-handed, your video helped me the most! I was so frustrated before finding your video! Your camera angles when you're wrapping the string and pulling it through the nut were' spot on! Thank you so much! Cheers!

Thank you Alex! It’s not quite as easy as you make it look, haha, but thanks to simple and clear instructions I have been able to change the strings on my uke for the first time, yay :) It’s not a very tidy or pretty job but hopefully that will come with practice. I found the A the hardest for some reason, it pinged out of the bridge hole twice, but by looping round a 3rd time on the 3rd go, I got it to hold.

I’ve put on approximately six sets of strings and finally I will now do it right. A very nice explanation, thank you so much, Alex. This may be a foolish question but because you are left handed, did you have to change the size of the holes?
@SouthernUkuleleStore
@SouthernUkuleleStore 5 жыл бұрын
W Schield i have never had to. All the bridge holes are always punched thick enough. If you are knotting the string or tying the string around the bridge then there would be no benefit to the manufacturer to make custom size holes at the bridge. Someone out there will have done it but I’ve never seen it myself Hope that helps? 🤷‍♂️

I sure wish I saw the tip about using masking tape before I scratched every single one of my ukes. The good news is that they will never get any worse. 😊👍🏻 Thanks again.

Thank you so much for your help here Alex. I feel that I could do this now. Sorry if this seems a silly question but when you say, "up to tension...", how do you know what is the right tension?
@SouthernUkuleleStore
@SouthernUkuleleStore 4 жыл бұрын
You will know it's upto tension when the instrument is back in tune. When the strings are tightened up they go from floppy to tight - hence the expression. Happy to help! All the best

@trainerrg 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this great video. You make it look easy, Alex! I’ve been afraid I’d over-tighten it and rip the bridge off. One question: When you’re tying the two knots at the bottom end of each string, it looks like you don’t tie a full second knot-looks more like you tie one knot, leave the circle open, and loop the string through the hole again, almost like the beginning of a bowline knot. Am I correct on that?
@SouthernUkuleleStore
@SouthernUkuleleStore 3 жыл бұрын
Correct. Just loop the string through twice aand tuck under at the far end near the hole. Thanks for the kind words ☺️

K, I have a concert uke, I like the aquila nylgut......what size??? Standard gCEA , is it the 7u?
@adrianforbes6221
@adrianforbes6221 4 жыл бұрын
Nice video. I tried it and it worked to a fashion. My only concern was that when I bought the uke to pitch I had 5/6 string turns around the post. Did that mean I did not have enough tension on the string when I did the 2 initial manual turns around the post? No big deal, but it did not look as tidy and I had thought I might finish up with perhaps 3/4 turns around the post as I might when restringing my mandolin. Thoughts?
@SouthernUkuleleStore
@SouthernUkuleleStore 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the strings needed to be pulled tighter before you did the loops around the post. Like you said though, no big deal if it's working - just meant the job of restringing itself would be more fiddly. 👍 Well done

Are Low G setups only used on Tenor ukes?
@SouthernUkuleleStore
@SouthernUkuleleStore 4 жыл бұрын
No but mainly this is the size most associated with it. Lots of people do this with the Concert size and some even with a Soprano. The intonation and string tension gets a bit iffy as the ukes get smaller in low G.

I Flinched when you cut through the strings. I've always thought that you change the strings one at a time. The sudden release in tension can't be good for the instrument.

I wouldn't do it every time. The ukes still OK unsurprisingly 3-4 years later. 🤙
