How to Restring Kobalt 40V Trimmer

Video on how to restring Kobalt 40V cordless trimmer. I found that reloading the spool back onto the head can be a bit tricky. I hope this video helps describe the restring process from start to finish for those users reloading their trimmer for the first time.

I've been going crazy trying to figure out how to get the top cover for the bump feed over the spool without getting the string feed fouled up. It never occurred to me to put the cover over the spool and install both at the same time. Thanks for helping an ignorant mouth breather through a frustrating process.

I don't understand what the initial cutting process is all about. I cut a length of line, made a loop in the middle, and hooked that into the notch then did the winding as shown... Overall, this is by far THE BEST description of this process I've seen.

I have a 40 Volt Kobalt I bought in 03 or 04 (I've got a good memory but it's short) that doesn't look anything like that. What year is your's? I've never had a problem with it, use it weekly on a 3 acre yard.

I had the same trimmer that you have. I took it back to Lowe's and got another 40 Volt which is totally different Kobalt. Obviously, the had enough complaints about that type to make them redesign the trimmer! I bought my first on 2017 and the replacement in 2018.
