You should never rev-match to 1st gear from 5th-4th-3th-2th... But never 1st gear man! You still got alot to learn lol....

No need to rev match to first. If you're coming to a light/sign, rev match to second (speed depending) then go from second to neutral.

Nice video Derek. Personally ive never revved matched till 1st gear i dont find a purpose to it especially when u have 373 or taller gear. I love rev matching from 4th till 3rd cause sometimes i get a badass pop .

I just recently learned how to rev match, and when I say recently I mean about a year ago. I honestly didn’t know what it met until I accidentally did it and I realized “wow, no jerking that felt amazing” now I do it pretty much for every gear the only downside is that most people think I’m just trying to show off lol

Hi, I'm new to trying to learn manual, in general. I pretty much have the main idea down for rev-matching. What I'm confused about is when to down shift. Do you sync it with the "yap" or do you clutch>gas>then shift? I want to make sure I'm getting the right timing

Usually when I rev match I clutch in, throw it in neutral before I blip (i dont think it matters since youre on the clutch but i do it anyways), and then shift

Clutch, gas(rev) and grab gear same time, clutch off, repeat till in a substantial gear to gap a camaro.

EmperorJalapeno you brake before you start the process of a downshift. Once you’re braking and your RPMs start getting lower, then you let off the brakes and start your downshift.

Coming up on a stop light or stop sign, should you downshift? I normally put it in neutral and roll to the sign. If I had an exhaust I feel like I would down shift to stop just because it sounds cool. I know automatics downshift to stop.

Recently just started. I got upshifting down but trying to learn how to downshift instead of going into neutral and breaking and shifting from there. I’m driving 06 Jaguar x type. And i can’t get it down to save my life. I know this been asked so many times but i just need to write it in my own way. So it’s clutch, tap (rev), downshift at the same time as you rev, then press gas at a slower rate? Or keep gas at the same point From where you had it before the down shift. And slowly let off clutch? Sorry if that didn’t make ay sense just trying to understand the part after making the downshift

Yeah I'm wondering the same thing as the guy a few comments before me. Am I supposed to blip the throttle at the same time I physically move the gear shifter down a gear? Or push the clutch in, shift gear down, then focus on the blip and releasing the clutch smoothly. Help pls

Before I knew what rev matching was I grenaded a clutch pressure plate and broke a clutch fork in half going from 5th to 3rd...yea I soon learned wth I was doing after that lol

Is it necessary to rev match going into first. I usually rev match downshifting till about 2nd then just ride 2nd gear till I come to the full stop then throw it in neutral

Don't downshift into 1st, your second gear can get down to 2-5mph. 1st gear gets abused enough, no need to add extra wear to it.

That downshift and throttle blip sounds beautiful man. Im on week 2 of not only driving a manual, but driving a mustang GT!! I still cant downshift well but I think I understand it a little better from your video. I just downshift when im like at 1-2k rpm and slowly let the clutch out. I didnt understand the throttle blip ima try it out!!

I drive a 2018 Dodge Charger Scat Pack automatic and I hear the "rev match" whenever I have it on Sport mode and it down shifts when I slow down, I know it's not related at all but I kinda get what you mean

Shifting like a pro for sure. Only thing i see that you can progress a little in is letting your rpms stretch out a little longer on your pulls. The Mustang has a rev limiter for a reason. In my GT500 there is an outrageous Power Band just right before it taps out. If you let it tap out 2 tips then you have pushed it a lil to far. But if you shift perfectly in line with that first tap out it sounds mean as hell and you will be glued to the seat when you roll in to 4th.
