Wonder if this would work on a "Zombie" tube where I accidentally did something similar: heater was at 9V for less than a second. Stupid I know but visible light emission is very low compared to another identical tube under same bias etc. I did hear that emissive coating damage is supposed to be irreversible but maybe not, plan is to try a variant of this where negative voltage is applied with tube at +170 Celsius so the coating is persuaded to re-coat the now cold heater by a variant of sputtering as this is essentially how it was applied at the factory. Might work on age weakened VFDs as well which would be excellent!

I have a Full Music Mesh plate/grid 300b tube. Working fine, not many hours and then one day I turned on the amp and nothing. Very disappointing. The mesh plates are nice sounding and look wonderful.

Hi, thanks for your comment on my video. I have never tried it so I don't have any idea about it. But regular tubes have excellent electrical spec and capabilities to reproduce right sound. This is all I can say. Have a great day. Young

Excellent video ! Can you give a little more details on how is this working and what are the perfect voltage conditions for heating and time (I saw you put a little bit more than the normal value, aswell for the 45's you also rejuvenated). Thank you for the sharing of this excellent knowledge !! Now I know that I won't ever throw a "bad" tube anymore !
@YoungAhn4 жыл бұрын
good afternoon dear Fernando. Thanks for your comment. It depends on. If a tube is in good condition with just simple emission issue, it takes 3~5 hours is OK. But some tubes which were used for long time with overload, it takes 24 hours or more. Sometimes it is a small amount of improvement only. voltage is same as the original spec. Have a great day. Young

after you complete your process might i suggest that you reflash the getter in the tube.in some cases this may be helpful.

Hi, great video. I have a custom 12 X 6550 (kt88) amp that red played all its output valves very quickly. The amp was turned off very very quickly, I turned down the bias pot and tried again. Although not going into red plate again, the power output was much less. The valves were all with less than 24 hours use. I suspect a capacitor. I am wondering if I might need to go through your process. I don't want to buy 12 new matched valves! I'm hoping the valves weren't taken too far and can be salvaged!
@YoungAhn2 жыл бұрын
It's very easy to repair tube amps, it's not capacitor problem. Contact your local tech. Thanks

좋은 정보 감사 합니다. 45 튜브도 같은 방법으로 재생할수 있는지요?
@YoungAhn5 жыл бұрын

Wow, I’m very surprised that works! It would seem like while you’re stripping your heaters you’re building a layer on your cathode, AKA cathode poisoning. I wonder if there is a way to heat the tube to fix this rather than apply heater voltage that long. I suppose if a tube is dead, one is less concerned with shortening its life🙃.

Is this any different than leaving tubes in your guitar amplifiers with the standby switch on - so only the heaters are getting voltage?
@YoungAhn2 жыл бұрын
When standby sw is off, high voltage is not supplied to pltate. Only filaments are turned on. Thanks

Dear Mr. Ahn: I have a question; years ago, 1 of KT88 burnt out , among 4 tubes in my amplifier, the tube it burnt, the element lighting up abnormally, just like fire, I turned offy amplifier immediately. Would that burnt tube burn out the amplifier and speaker too? Looking forward to your advice🙏
@YoungAhn3 жыл бұрын
happy new year dear James. It does not damage your amp or speakers because OPT blocks DC. If an OPT has insulation issue, it's another story. I like James Wood, a famous movie star

What was the problem though? Did the intense heat of the short change the structure of the metal in the filament? Was this an annealing process?
@YoungAhn5 жыл бұрын
Hi there. Did you watch this video from the beginning to the end? It's not an annealing process.
@thermionic12345675 жыл бұрын
Young Ahn Yes I did. But I did not hear you say what the actual problem was.
@YoungAhn5 жыл бұрын
It's because of high plate current caused by 0 bias(short circuit between filament ~ GND). No plate current at all after my mistake however the 300b tube was revitalized by supplying 5V for more than 10 hours. This method eliminates invisible gas layer which are concentrated on filament. watch my video again, you can save lots of money

it is a regulated power supply, in this case it gives a voltage of 5.3 volt to the filament of the tube and the filament withdraw a current of 1.3 amperes

Can this be done with 6l6gc tubes? What voltage and amps would be used?

Hi, direct heated tubes(300b, 2a3 ~~} are much better for this experiment. 6.3V ac or dc. Good luck. Thank you

What do you mean by "burning filament for 2 hours"...? 3:23 How do you "burn" a filament...? How much voltage are you putting across the filament...? How does this give a tube back it's life...?

@paulparadise60592 жыл бұрын
The tube was damaged. It was NOT a tube that lost it's ability to conduct from old age. You cannot revitalize a vacuum tube unless you disassemble it, replace the filament (or cathode if equipped), put in a new getter material, and then re-vacuum, seal, and initialize the getter to remove unwanted gases.
