This is how I made a quick disconnect setup for our 3 Waters Big Fish 105. It will work on any kayak, with or without an anchor trolly.
Easy and inexpensive.

That is called a spinnaker clip. Used to attach to the clew of a spinnaker sail. Can be unfastened remotely with a small line in case you need to dump the sail in a hurry. Good idea.

Great idea using that quick release clasp. Makes it easy and fast to release with tension on the anchor line. I'm in the process of rigging up the same setup. Thanks for sharing.

This is definitely the safest and smartest way to run a trolley system. Attaching directly to the O Ring is dangerous because it can either be at the bow or stern, or even worse get pulled under your yak. I would tie a small nylon rope to the disconnect ring and attach a brightly colored handle to it, like a ripcord on a parachute. That way you can just yank that and you are instantly cut free. Also this is nice because you don't have to attach a cleat to your side and have the possibility of that getting bound up on accident. I'll probably do a retractable that attaches to the float then to the anchor. You can easily dump the entire rig if need be, and also never have to worry about loose lines laying around.

Hey man, this definitely helped me! I have the same Yak Attack HD anchor trolley system installed. I normally fish in the flats and anchor with a stick pin. Being able to quickly cut away isn't a huge concern back there, but recently I've been fishing some waters where it's a bigger concern, and was looking at a secondary anchor setup when I'm doing that. This was REALLY helpful. Thanks again.

Only 2 problems I saw with this set up is - 1 You don't have a Rudder (you need a rudder and the retract ball is on that side of the kayak) and 2 - The anchor line runs from your seat frame which is inside the Kayak all the way up to the front or back and it will tangle on anything you have on the side of your kayak wether it be rod holders or accessories on the tracks or a crate out back with stuff off the sides or rods out of the rear rod holders. Great Kayak, I have the BF 120 myself, love it.
@Amberdogproductions
@Amberdogproductions 10 ай бұрын
It actually does have a rudder. I agree these B.F. kayaks are mandatory for them. The 1st time I took this one out for a test it didn't have one. Came home that day and ordered one..lol As to the other concerns, its going on 3 or 4 years now and it's had no issues with tangles or ease of use. To be fair, I'm right handed and the reason they are all on the left is I hold a pole and some cameras on the right. They are incredible kayaks. This year 3 waters / Feel Free sent me a B.F. 103 pedal drive for my channel so we are running both now. But being my channel has evolved into mainly video and photography, the 103 has become my main filming platform as shown in several videos from this season. Thank you for watching and commenting! I do appreciate you taking that time for both!

I just removed the floor plates and used them as a template. But he sure to seal the screws up afterwards on the 103 or 120. Having an anchor quick-release system is the way to go. Down under here in Australia 🇦🇺 we call that quick release shackle you have, a yachting “Ronstan Snap Shackle”. However, I see a major problem with your system! You haven’t incorporated a Zig Zag Cleat or something similar to take the weight of the Kayak when at anchor. What was demonstrated in the video was you running the anchor line/eye through the ring on the trolley system, and then attaching it to the quick-release shackle, which in turn was attached to the bottom of the seat in your Kayak. I’m not sure how secure the seat is in your Kayak, but I doubt it was designed to be used as the “bitter end” of an anchoring system. In the right/wrong conditions I could envisage you standing up in your Kayak, and your seat deciding it no longer wants to be onboard your Kayak, flying across the deck, knocking you overboard as it tries to squeeze through the ring in your anchor trolley 😀
@Amberdogproductions
@Amberdogproductions 2 жыл бұрын
Actually the seat in the 3 waters big fish is anchored in very well. I do mention using a zig zag cleat if needed or wanted. On this application on this kayak, its proven rock solid for several years now and countless trips out. For me, I have opted for no cleat as it's just one more thing to worry about. But I do use them on other kayaks I have. When I use this anchor on my other kayaks, normally I attach the quick release setup to the side handles, as there is no seat on them.
