WoW ... as soon as you said "steel rod," I told my daughter you were gonna make a "slide"!. I've seen similar devices on larger saltwater anchors,,, makes PERFECT SENSE . I like your style, you get right to it. Thanks. Nick in Redfield Arkansas

Very clever. I've always used a sacrificial zip tie but I like this better.

This is so simple and I'm sure effective, all makers should buy the plan from you. All anchors should be made this way .. Rock On :)

Great idea! I use the sacrificial zip tie on my folding anchor, but most often use 5/16" chain in a bicycle inner tube...I have 2 configurations, 1 of them is 16" long, and straight, and 1 is 24" long and the connecting link is in the middle. The inner tube keeps anything from sticking through a link of chain and hanging up. Besides being almost totally snagless, you can draw the chains up on a shorter rode and use them as drag chains to slow you down in current. Stay Safe!

Very close to the way I have my plow anchor design however I can see three ways to improve that anchor trouble retrieval system. You need to purchase a plow anchor, you need to rethink the way you think that wire, & without chain atop that anchor there is no bite without structure.

Nice video and interesting hack... Would it be fair to say that if the anchor is wedged in rocks in close to a vertical position, that the line is not going slide from end of the rod to the other and pull free?
@PROAMOUTDOORS3 жыл бұрын
Yes that’s a possibility, but so far it works really well

Thanks I used it today On Gibbons Creek reservoir before the storm came in. It healed good and was easy to bounce it up and come right out of the brush pile

Um nope the first thing that is going to happen to me is a limb is going to run through that contraption and then it won't matter what position anything is in...goodby anchor.
@PROAMOUTDOORS3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I can see your point. I’ve been using it in brush piles since the video it has not happened yet.

what happens if the steel rod gets stuck under the anchor
@aftech72682 жыл бұрын
The best one I’ve seen that wont get caught up is a straight chain covered in a bicycle tube

I use old cast weights that i ripped out of old houses back in my construction days. Everyone asks why I save junk. Nowadays its not hording its "repurposing"! Get snagged real bad no big deal I have plenty where that came from.

This is a lot of work compared to a small zip tie.
@PROAMOUTDOORS11 ай бұрын
I literally bent that up and made that in 15 minutes. Unlike a zip tie, you don’t have to reattach one every time.

He seems to think that carrying a couple of spare zip ties is a real chore.

Damn what made you think of that?

I got tired of hanging up and brush with noticed that the forks fold backwards, so why not pull it backwards. That’s what happens when you use a zip tie at the front and anchor at the back anyway so why not let it slip that way. Thanks for watching. Hope you like and share.

Only works if you can get the proper angle
@PROAMOUTDOORS3 ай бұрын
Yep, you’re right. It works when you get the right angle but in a kayak, you can move around and keep working the rope and then it will finally pop loose. It’s happened to me quite a few times using this kayak anchor, but I’ve gotten it back each time
@pmm4223 жыл бұрын
I'm wondering if a rope tied from top to bottom might do the same thing?
@PROAMOUTDOORS3 жыл бұрын
Yes you’re right I thought about putting the rope through the ring along the slide and then tied to the back they would be a double help
@pmm4223 жыл бұрын
@@PROAMOUTDOORS OK cool I'll give it a whirl, excellent video thanks for the idea.
@Jpgundarun2 жыл бұрын
What if your loop of rope or steel rod is the thing that gets caught? Useless idea. I'll stick to the single line to the front with a cable tie.
@rjflippo11 ай бұрын
Now stop me if I’m wrong, but a current or the wind could help one slide the connection towards the bottom and drag the collapsed anchor ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@sidecarmisanthrope592711 ай бұрын
Considering this is for a kayak, there isn't much drag due to the size and weight of the kayak. Also this would only be a problem if the kayak owner fell asleep and didn't realize that they were drifting.
@rjflippo9 ай бұрын
@@sidecarmisanthrope5927 speaking as a kayaker. Not sure what kind of kayaking you do, but there is not much I can do if I am fishing and a 30 mph gist comes from out of nowhere. Bottom line, that is a whole lot of work for something a zip tie could manage.
@dolloff332 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think I'll just go buy a new anchor if mine gets stuck

No more polluting the water with zip ties. Boooyahhhh!
@edwinmiranda81742 жыл бұрын
Love it point of view. I didn't think about it
@Jpgundarun2 жыл бұрын
Just put a zip tie on your zip tie. One will break the other will hold the broken one onto the rope so it doesn't pollute the water.
