We take a brass sheet and sand all the way from 220 grit sandpaper all the way to 5000 grit sandpaper and then polish with Gord's Aluminum Polish. (Which works really well on brass).

I was trying to clean off 50 years of tarnish on the brass kick plates for our little store. I did exactly as you up to 220 grit sandpaper. It came clean but I couldn’t figure out why it wouldn’t shine. Now I know what else I have to do so thanks very much. I’m off to the lumber yard to buy fiber sandpaper!

Such a thorough and easy tutorial; thank you! I bought an antique brass mirror, 100+ years old, and it's gorgeous but I can't see anything. I can't wait to actually give it a mirror shine and use it!!

Good job mate. If you only want to achieve a satin finish, what grade of sandpaper to recommend going to? Also, can you use an orbital sander in place of the drill?

Absolutely beautiful process and finish (I had tried so many different methods) I was able to acheive such a finish but was out of WD-40 and it was late night. Found that liquid dish soap works awesome and makes cleanup so easy :) Thank you so much for this very detailed video.

See the TREE appear! I was just using 0000 grit wire wool on an intricate item {stable door handle recessed ring and backplate}....but it isn't mirrorlike...Looks like I will need some much finer grades of paper.

Great video! My only question is if you're supposed to sand uniformly then why did you finish each Pass on the bottom right corner? I'd imagine that substantially .

Haha I was watching the video thinking the same, 6 times more sanding than most other areas, sometimes we do little motions that are counter productive, Used to manually grind air compressor plate valves using a glass plate and grinding paste, same principle, work your grades to ever finer compounds removing any marks created by the previous compound. Don't move on until the biggest imperfections are the ones you are creating. Was suggest a figure of 8 pattern of movement keeps the directional bias to a minimum.

Thanks for the great video! Could you tell me how I would go about sanding a brass sheet evenly if I only want to take it to a 2B/cold rolled type finish. I'm actually planning to paint on the brass sheet. I'd like it to be shiny but not as shiny as a mirror finish. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! -Kate

If you're going to paint the brass, you could try wet sand with the Trizact sand paper once it's painted, then polish.

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoy my videos. Using a protectant definitely does help, the polish I use does have a little in it, but applying some specifically does help a lot. This was just an early video, were I didn't, but I make sure I do now for any new video

Skills and Trade I’ve tried the same, but not getting the same results:( grits: 240-320-800-1500-3000-5000. Should I do it on low or high speed? I am using an electrical sander
@SkillsandTrade
@SkillsandTrade 6 жыл бұрын
You definitely need a high speed drill for this. You should probably send a little slower and don't be afraid to make a second or third pass with the 800. It's important that you smooth out the lower grits before moving on.

About 2500 RPM for sanding, about 800 or so for the polishing.
