Over the years I’ve tried many ways to sand the live edge of wood slabs. This tool has been the one I’ve found that gets the majority of the work done in the least amount of time, while still leaving the character of the wood.

Brilliant, thanks for this golden info. I was using home made sanding mops for various small projects but now will order a set of these to have. The mops disintegate very quickly

This was HUGELY helpful. Thank you! This method preserved the patina for a very natural finish of the live edge. One note: if you decide to sand-blast w/ glass bead to accentuate the patina coloring, this should be your last step before finishing steps. These nylox brushes will remove the patina if you use them AFTER sand-blasting.

Thanks for adding some real value (and not taking 30 minutes to convey the info). Normally I use chisels for the bark, then the Rotex 90 which works really, really well for the smooth flat portions, but not nearly as well for the small intricate features like what you showed. I think the combo of those two approaches would be excellent.

I forgot that I used to use a foam contour pad for my Rotex sander for the edges as well, but yeah I agree using both can get any job finished well.

Nyalox is what he is talking about, nyloks or other spelling. They are sold at Amazon in all sorts of styles and grits.

They’ve actually held up pretty well, I haven’t had to replace these yet. But even if I did, it’s not expensive.
