Looks wicked!!!! Thanks for those gold nuggets of sanding and polishing knowledge. I F#%ked up a lot of metal pieces for not knowing how to properly sand and polish in the correct sequence. Thanks a milli!!!

DA sand the piece starting with 80, then progress up. I’ve done 4000 grit and it was almost a mirror finish. Just finish with your buffer

Wow. Awesome job. In the beginning it looked like your Bullseye lid was polished, did you follow the same steps for the grill?
@brackishindustries
@brackishindustries 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Charlie! Yes I did, the lid did not require as much sanding, 320 grit followed by 600 and 800 was all that was required to make the lid "polish ready" 👍

I use 800 grit on a rotary and it doesn't burn it

May I ask many many approx sandpaper discs used? Can they be cleaned/lubricated so as to use so many? Well done and keep these coming as I am learning a lot for a newbie. Thanks

Thanks Paul, the answer is quite a few for this project id say 3 to 5 sheets per grit per panel with the rotary, the advantage to rotary sanding is you can get alot alot of the imperfections cut down fast, but the shortcoming is you burn up paper quickly and its not as user friendly for newer folks.... as far as a lubricant I've seen two different techniques, wiping the surface with wd40 before sanding (i personally havent noticed a difference) and using sanding grease which i have yet to try (available at infinish.com) since this video was created ive been playing with the DA polisher I referenced in the beginning of this video and I can tell you its much more user friendly, the sandpaper consumption is 1/2 if not 1/4 of the rotary sander and ive found it much easier to dig out imperfections left from the previous sanding grit. Its not as fast as rotary but also not as slow as an orbital palm sander. Il put a video together at some point on sanding with the DA polisher 👍

@@brackishindustries Thank you for your time and explanation. I happen to have all equipment etc as I am a detailer. However since I mostly detail classic cars, I have also been polishing small engine parts with quite a good success. Still Now I am getting requests for bigger jobs so all info collected from you and a couple of others like DC supershine and Evans detailing is being absorbed by me!!!. Thanks again and I can say that you are the only one on KZfaq that takes time to explain why and how you are doing stuff. Thank you again and wish you all the best of success.

@@paulborg9609 thank you for your kind words! My goal with any of the videos I've done is always to go into the context of why I'm doing something the way that I am to help others understand a process better so it means alot to me that you feel im doing a good job of explaining things! Oh BTW I wouldn't use your favorite paint correction polisher for sanding the metal dust will likely get in the motor and burn it up faster, thats why I referenced that cheap harbor freight polisher

I thought the difference of sanding would be you not going against the grain to go with the grain shouldn't that be better

The problem with this method is getting the material so hot. Causing waves in the material which in turn, causes distortion. Just my 2 cents.

This is absolutely true with regard to flat stainless. Very difficult to get enough heat to polish it but not enough to warp it. Since we did this project I've done a few other stainless pieces that did not warp as bad but this one was definitely one of the most difficult
