This video was so helpful. You saved my peace lily from my mom’s funeral. I originally put the peace lily in water before I went on vacation but didn’t know my peace lily had prior root rot then I also put it in water and pushed the plant too deep into the water so root rot went up into the bottom of the plant too while I was gone. I then tried to put it in soil when I got back to make it bounce back. Nothing! So then I found your video and went through the peace lily observing the roots and seeing what could actually be salvaged. I’m currently propagating five pieces with this method and within one night they have already perked up. I almost wanted to cry. Thank you sooooo much for this video and being so descriptive.

If you remove all the soil, cut the brown mushy rotting roots off, then soak the remaining roots in a solution of pure 3% hydrogen peroxide (just squirt the peroxide from the bottle into the roots and let it sit or fill a cup up and sit the roots in it for about two minutes etc.), Then rinse the roots well with water you'll have a better chance of saving the plant. Hydrogen peroxide will kill the microbes causing the root rot without harming the plant and it's precious root system, then once hydrogen peroxide is mixed with water the water will neutralize the hydrogen peroxide.

So I just purchased a peace Lilly from ikea. I watered it, and then 2 days later it started wilting (top soil dry) so I watered it again... I started noticing this thing was wilting every 2-3 days so eventually when I took it fully out of the planter I noticed the soil was moist. So possibly I had drowned it! I broke up the root ball and divided the plants into 4-5 individual plants and now have them in water. They were COMPLETELY wilted but I thought I’d try your method - it has now been one day and 60-70% of the plants have started rising again 😳!! I’m so impressed!!!!

I have this plant that was given to us at a funeral, we've had the plant for 10 years. A few months ago I repotted the plant into a bigger pot and a bunch of leave died and the leaves left stayed in droop mode. I wish I had seen this video before I had put the plant back into a smaller pot. When I took the plant out I found many brown, soggy roots. I cleaned the roots up and as I did this I saw small roots growing out of the base (it's still alive even tho it's 4 leaves are dropping) I'm going on vacation for two weeks and I'm trying to decide if I should leave it in the soil or put it in water. I so want this plant to survive as it has sentimental value to us. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you for doing this video!
@carbrickscity5 жыл бұрын
I am glad you saw this video. 10 years is a long time. I wish the same for mine. I would suggest putting it in water, which is probably the safest way to retrieve the plant. It takes soil out of the equation which eliminates all soil-based bacteria. Just cut off all the rotted roots, wash away all the soil/dirt, and put it in a plastic cup/transparent container. Change out the water every 2 days and new roots should form in a few weeks. Keep it in room temperature and out of any direct sunlight. Let me know if you have any questions. Never throw any plants away.
