Saving radish seeds is easy! I'll show you exactly which steps to take to easily save radish seeds for replanting.
This technique will also be similar for things like kale, turnips, etc!

Love saving radish seeds. You can get a lifetime supply in one year if you can stop the birds from eating them.

Oh my gosh I have found a fellow gardener that loves to grow her own seeds like I do I think growing my own radish seeds now for a couple years .Thank you so much I really do enjoy your channel and I know we’re going to be great buddies Isn’t it amazing that beautiful little flowers that are on the radish planned. Go look at my channel and look at all my beautiful seats coming from one carrots I have been doing updates every week . I’m trying to grow a food forest and every year I have plans coming back from year before ,I’ve have my lettuce coming back for a couple years now from past lettuce, I have Swiss chard and coming back for five years now . And of course my radishes have been coming back for several years to .I’m not very good at it yet but I’m sure I’m going to get a lot better as time goes on and I build my soil a better and richer .

Nice to meet you! It looks like you have quite a lot going on in the garden. I'd love to start a food forest too, but since I'm not sure if I'm moving next year I haven't planted anything long term like that. I love your attitude too! We are always getting better over time as we keep trying. :)

New viewer and now subscribed based on this video. I haven't saved radish seeds before. I too have a radish jungle at the moment, but pods are all still green, still on the planted radish plant. Should I cut some branches off the plant and would they mature ok off the plant?
@AuxhartGardening
@AuxhartGardening 3 жыл бұрын
If the seeds aren't fully formed, they won't mature off the plant. I only cut branches off when I'm certain the seeds are fully formed and just need to dry out. If you're feeling unsure, you can definitely just leave the pods to dry on the plant itself to be absolutely sure you're getting mature seeds.

Great video. I’m growing hydroponically indoors, and now I’m wondering about pollination. Will seeds form properly if I shake the flowers around the same way I would on a tomato plant? Also, I’m wondering how long it takes for the entire cycle of planting the seed, growing the radish, and waiting for the seed pods to be ready for harvest.
@AuxhartGardening
@AuxhartGardening 4 ай бұрын
I don't think radishes work that way. They definitely need other plants to pollinate, but I'm not sure what the hand-pollination strategy would be for something like that. Sorry i can't be more helpful!

I haven't eaten them, mostly because they tend to be kind of rough/spikey as far as leaves go. But I'd assume they taste similar to the pods, which is a mild radish flavor.

What varieties do you collect seeds from? I've heard radishes are biennial but it sounds like you're collecting seeds just a few months after planting in the same season/year, which is why I'm asking lol I want to be planting those then lol (So far Cherry Belle is my favorite!) Thank you so much!!!!

Good question! This one is a black spanish radish. Most common radish varieties are annual, with a few of the larger ones being biennial as you mentioned. You should be able to figure out which is which via google searches.

How long does it take for the radish to mature to this stage? I'm growing dinosaur kale and found out it could be roughly 2 years for it to flower. Will it take this long for radishes too? I have some very plumb radishes growing with big lushes greens, but the definitely don't look like that.
