Oh I don’t really know without looking at your artwork but for a relatively simple duotone I would want to run it as a 45 lpi on a 200 or 230 mesh. Depending on the white printer you may be able to a spot and dot with it on a more open mesh count with a bigger dot. Thanks much for watching and dropping me a note. ☠

@Jose Ruacho, Typically higher mesh counts tend to be dyed mesh so they may be yellow or amber/orange. I have never seen a 230 that was white. Thanks for watching!

If the ink is thinner then a higher mesh count may work. But a plastisol ink we might use a 110 or 125 mesh. It can vary depending on exactly what you are printing. Thanks so much for watching and dropping me a note. ☠

Nice job Jonathan, how anyone can dislike useful information is crazy. I picked up some 156 screens the other day and they were yellow, I ask the supplier if this would affect my burn time, no they said it should stay the same. Well it didn't and after researching (something I should have done anyway) I found that the yellow would indeed increase the time to burn the screen. In my case it was 25% longer. I say all that because you mentioned the longer time for the yellow screens.

I was confused until i realised you were talking of "per inch" mesh count. I live on the continent of europe. We use the metric system :o) I have 43 threads per cm for opaque white on dark fabric. That would be close to 110 per inch. Nice info anyways. Keep it up.

@CatspitProductions 8 жыл бұрын
+Joseph DiCristofano You're very welcome, glad you enjoyed the video. I'm not sure what you mean by that. The camera will not pick up the way the mesh looks from count to count. And showing print examples wouldn't show much either. I mean there is a visual difference between the print of a low mesh count versus a very high one but we could only see the extreme end of either one. So visual aides in this case really would not have shown you much more if anything at all. I would have needed a magnifying camera to show mesh counts up close. Thanks for watching. I want to get into silkscreening. I've taken a class in it previously, but I want to do it as a side business. I'm an artist who draws various scenes in nyc (buildings,etc) I plan to make silkscreened prints of these drawings. For these drawings, what kind of mesh count would you recommend? Would I need about a 200 count for what I plan to do? I want to replicate the crisp details of my sketches.

The tips would be the same. You're going to choose the mesh count based on the artwork and the thickness of the ink combined. The thickness and or particulate size of the ink is more important then what brand or type of ink you are using. Meaning you have to look at the ink and decide what screen mesh it would print best with. Of course considering the artwork as well. Thanks for watching. I am not so sure about the higher mesh count giving better results. From makro pictures it seems the mesh is only support to keep everything leveled and tight and springy, as the gelatin layer lays independent of the matrix. For that smaller mesh count would be advantage it seems. I will keep searching and give it a shot despite the fact that everybody I look at seems to be saying opposite. I think it may be simply result of marketing for high mesh size.
@CatspitProductions
@CatspitProductions 5 жыл бұрын
Not sure where you are getting your info but this is no marketing scam. Emulsion is not independent of the mesh. It encapsulates the mesh. It is supported by the mesh. Higher mesh counts cost a few dollars more than lower ones so there's no fortune to be made by making people push ink through a higher mesh count. What I teach is the standard in the industry and when you begin making screens you will learn that high detail will never render on a 110 mesh. Think about this example for a moment. With halftones we use tiny dots. A 65 LPI halftone has very small dots and on a 110 mesh they would disappear in the large mesh openings. You will never render a 65 LPI on a 110 mesh. If you can you're a genius or a god. Higher mesh counts are better at rendering detail because the emulsion has to bridge much smaller openings and the mesh supports the emulsion so you can get the detail. Think about it. We ask emulsion to bridge from corner to corner of the square mesh grid. It is much easier for emulsion to do with smaller mesh openings. Thanks for watching! @@CatspitProductions Yes, I was wrong. My appologies. I have screen printed with fine mesh multiple times and it crossed my mind that all I need are openings and stencil type coat, so screen need't to be too fine to do that. I am planning on trying screen printing for thickness, like several millimeters, with plaster of paris. Fine mesh seems useless for that. I also screwed up terminology since gelatin is used in carbon printing, in silk printing it is emulsion.
@CatspitProductions
@CatspitProductions 5 жыл бұрын
@@kokeskokeskokes No worries. It's all a part of the learning journey. Sometimes things can get confusing or we over analyze things. Screen printing is a pretty simple process. It's a formula, an equation, if you will. But it's also an art, a craft, and a creative skill. Yes, if you want to basically extrude plaster of Paris through screen mesh, you'll probably want to try a 24 to 80 mesh screen.

also could I use water base ink on a 156 for colored ink?
@CatspitProductions
@CatspitProductions 7 жыл бұрын
You may want to watch the video again. 110 mesh would be for light colored inks on dark garments with artwork that has little to no detail. A 156/160 would hold more detail and print less ink. So it would be better at printing darker inks on lighter colored garments. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/

@CatspitProductions
@CatspitProductions 4 жыл бұрын
@@jamilmuhammad1320 LPI is the lines per inch for the halftone. So say a 45 LPI would work well on a 200 or 230 mesh.

What emulsion would you recommend for 200 mesh that will be UV developed?
@CatspitProductions
@CatspitProductions 9 жыл бұрын
David Sowell Well all emulsions today are only sensitive to UV light. So any of my emulsions I sell will develop with UV light if that is what you mean. catspitscreenprintsupply.com/emulsion/ Depending on what ink you want to use you could use the Textil PC Blue or maybe the Graphic HU. Are the frames you sell measured from the outer diameter of the frame or the inner diameter of the frame?

That would be outer dimensions. The frame is about 1.5 inches or so in width. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/

I'm a little confused. I want to print a VERY detailed white design (monochromatic) on a black shirt, do I want the colored mesh and low mesh count? (detail and opaque white)
@CatspitProductions
@CatspitProductions 8 жыл бұрын
+Patrick Mahloy Then use a 200 mesh or above which will be yellow mesh. You cannot have the best of both worlds. At lower mesh counts the mesh is white because it will not matter being yellow at such a low mesh count. You can only achieve so much detail on lower mesh counts even if they were yellow. Sometimes you can find 160 mesh in yellow. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/

I don’t really know. Your emulsion would need to be water proof as I am guessing the dyes are water based. I’d guess that a 200 through 230 would suffice. If the dye is very runny then move up to a 305. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠

Do you have the video for choosing the mesh counts for water-based inks?
@CatspitProductions
@CatspitProductions 7 жыл бұрын
No not specifically but with most water based inks you'll be starting at a 160 mesh at the lowest and moving up to 200 and 230 for thinner inks or higher detailed artwork of course. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/

CatspitProductions Hi. I'm going to buy my first screen and try out screen printing. My first designs are going to be white ink on dark shirts. I do more "detailed" designs than "blocky." Do you recommend that I go with the 156 mesh? Also do you know where to get transparent films for a good price? Thanks a lot.

what mesh count did you use for your catspit shirt that you have on? I'm printing a image with about the same amount of detail as yours, with small letters about the size of the ones at the bottom of your shirt. My image comes out good but, the small letters are filling in with the ink. Do you have any suggestions on what mesh count I should use? I'm using a 110 mesh now with black plastisol ink and chroma blue emulsion. Thanks for the video
@CatspitProductions
@CatspitProductions 7 жыл бұрын
That was a 110 or 125 mesh screen. But you may have to enlarge the letters in order for them to print well. It depends on the font. Or try a higher mesh count so you print less ink. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/

does 230mesh have a tendecy to clog when using plastisol inks with matte additives and soft-hand additives??
@CatspitProductions
@CatspitProductions 8 жыл бұрын
+EGG Not the mesh but the ink with the matte additives is what would clog up. Dulling agents especially can cause clumping or clogging issues. Soft hand should be fine if used properly. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/

While using the 330 Mash, my photo emulsion doesn't glue to the mash properly, but slips on the mash and the emulsion can't be removed with a remover afterwards. When I do the same thing on the 180 Mash, everything goes well and it doesn't slip at all. In your opinion, what's the reason for that and could you please suggest me anything? Thanks in advance.
@CatspitProductions
@CatspitProductions 10 жыл бұрын
Well I don’t know for sure. That is strange. It could be you need to abrade the mesh. Use a mesh abrader to rough the thread fibers some so the emulsion has something to bite onto.
