I've had problems in the past and given up because I didn't do these steps - it seems like a lot of work but only because you were clearly taking the time to to show how to get the best results

A cast iron skillet/pan etc that is COMPLETELY rusted, can be cleaned up and re seasoned!!

Cast irons can be restored that's why I love them

Thanks for this helpful explanation. I’ve watched a few on this subject and aside from offering contradictory advice, most people seem to feel the need to goof off. Thank you for not doing that and for simply showing what to do. It’s not that I mind people having fun it’s just that information gets lost within the yabbering.😊

Simple and to the point - thanks man! I really don’t wanna wait over three hours to use my pan but it’s worth it to do it right the first time…

Yes, well worth it. Thanks for the comment

Once is plenty. No need to do it 3 times. Everyday you use it it will season itself.

I did what my grandmother did. I used bacon grease. Preheated the oven to 400. I put foil on the lower rack. I put the skillet upside down. After an hour,I turn the oven off. I leave it in the oven until the oven is cold. Do not wash it after using it. Wipe it out, rinse. Then oil it, you can store it. I usually put it in the oven for 15 minutes, them turn off . Take out after it cools and store. Do not stack any pans on top of it.

Very nice video! I want to ask you after some seasonings in the oven it’s necessary after the cooking and washing to dry the pan and use a thin layer of oil?i mean i can wash it dry it its not enough?this seasoning that i made its not safe?
@Thehowtochannelinc6 ай бұрын
You do not have to use the thin layer of oil every time you wash the skillet, but the seasoning will last much longer if you do. Especially if you need to use soap on the skillet. If you do the final step, you will very rarely need to do the more involved seasoning. Thanks for the question.

Mine never leaves the stove. It is always in use. It's a 14" chicken fryer and I use it for everything, don't know how people cook without one.

At what temperature do i set my oven?
@Thehowtochannelinc10 ай бұрын
450 degrees or higher. The high temperature will cause the oil to bond to the cast iron.

I have a cast iron skillet but it is not black it is Grey and kinda rough. Help Please 😮
@Thehowtochannelinc Жыл бұрын
As long as the skillet is bare cast iron, the seasoning process will work. If it is enameled cast iron, the seasoning will not help. Cast iron can be sanded down and re-seasoned, but it is a lot of work for a skillet that you can buy new for around $30. If your skillet cooking surface is just a little rough, it will still work well with proper seasoning.

Best advice is to just cook AND bake in it constantly and consistently..make biscuits, even from a can..make cornbread…even a jiffy mix..fry potatoes, chicken, often..if you do this, no need for extra seasoning process…

450 degrees or higher. The high temperature will cause the oil to bond to the cast iron. I mentioned the temperature at the beginning of the video. Thanks for the question.

Mine came out spotted . What did o do wrong?
@Thehowtochannelinc Жыл бұрын
You may have had some oil pooling in some spots. Make sure you have an even thin layer of oil on the pan. If it is sticky, scrub off the seasoning and start over with a thin layer. Season at least 3 times.
@rstumbaugh43 Жыл бұрын
Also bake a lot with it.. biscuits, corn bread, fry potatoes, chicken, etc..USING will build GREAT seasoning, especially baking

You didn't mention oven temperature, which is important, but otherwise good.
@Thehowtochannelinc11 ай бұрын
At the beginning of the video, I recommend heating your oven to 450 degrees. You must have missed it. Thanks for the comment.
@williamoneill549811 ай бұрын
My apologies, somehow I missed it (asleep with my eyes open) Actually I was just doing a brand new skillet that arrived pre-seasoned today, but I decided to try give it another coat before first use., I was guessing the oven temp, and although I had the oven well preheated, (was cooking dinner) I wasn't set at 450, more like 300 degrees. I guess I can do it again, at 450. I am using sunflower oil, not the best choice, but hopefully will be ok. You did a great job, with your example. Thanks.
@Thehowtochannelinc11 ай бұрын
No problem. Your skillet will be fine. Sunflower oil will work. In the future, I recommend seasoning at 450 or above. The high temperature will cause the oil to bond to the cast iron. Thanks for watching, and let me know if you have any questions.
@williamoneill549811 ай бұрын
Thanks for the advice, I will follow it carefully in future. I haven't used cast iron for a very long time, so I am looking forward to the searing etc you get with it. These days, with toxins coming at us, from all directions, especially the governments, every natural bit helps! Kind regards.

How about a new one
@Thehowtochannelinc Жыл бұрын
Same process for a new one. Even though a new skillet will be in good shape, it would still benefit from seasoning. The more seasoning, the better.
@Sar-ahG6 ай бұрын
Definitely do it to a new one!!
