For Anoles, it's height over area. They are mid height tropical forest tree dwellers. So a tank that is 3 times taller than it is wide is the best. Also, buy some large leafed tropical plants. Not plastic. Stick a grow light above for the plants, a UVB light for the Anole and a heater bulb for night. Add branches and moss and now you've got a tropical rainforest in a glass box. Mist it as often as you can to keep the humidity around 70+% Real plants alone make it look better than a tropical fish aquarium. It's a Zen experience when your Anole crawls out of the undergrowth, knows you are there, looks you in the eye and says "Where's dinner?" They are as intelligent as cats.

Hi you seem incredibly knowledgeable. Is a heating pad suitable? Meaning instead of a heat lanp
@WarTard13
@WarTard13 3 жыл бұрын
@@lilyt6075 If you've got a smaller tank and are from northern climates then a heating pad is not beyond bad. Especially in the winter months. But Anoles prefer to climb high from the forest floor and bask in the sun on exposed branches on which they make themselves invisible by A) not moving and B) matching their skin camo to the branch their on. My anole showed up in my shower so I did all I could to make him a habitat. To release him would be low temps and death. Now we're best mates. I recommend heath lamps. That way they can crawl up to a height they feel they reach a temperature they like. Best of luck!
@DaniH-81
@DaniH-81 2 жыл бұрын
In their natural environment (I've seen them on Kauai) you see more of them in trees and bushes than on the ground - though there are plenty there, too! I think a heat lamp would be appreciated. 🙂

And if your tank lacks height, adding some hanging plants attached to the top helps a lot. The tank in the video looks like the height might be fine if he added some stuff to the top. My 25 gallon isn't incredibly tall around 18 inches but the top area is lined with hanging plants and vines and they only leave the top when hiding or hunting, but they seem very relaxed up there. It's relatively high up on a shelf too so that helps. I definitely notice the behavior difference to when I had them when I was younger, they act very much like they're still in the wild but they still pick up on my body language like when I'm going to feed and and spray.

Anything you can tell me about gauze terrariums for anole lizards? I'm so worried about sickness and fungus with my grandsons two anoles. One of them has a white spot on her cheek, turned red around it and I've been reading up. She is doing better as far as being animated, and her sore has subsided since I put a large flat ceramic dish with just enough water for them to soak in if they wished. It looks like they splashed around in it,, but from what I read changing the environment helps best. He got these two anoles from a neighbor. I'm so pissed at what little I can find on them it makes me almost believe in the theory of the dead internet. Am I researching wrong?

I've had Anoles as pets since I was in middle school. They are honestly the funnest herps I've ever had the fortune of having as pets and I currently have 3 now. Fin (dominant male) Jörmug (submissive male) and Helga (female). They get along really nicely once the hierarchy was established. They are very hardy reptiles and the need for a UVB bulb can be bypassed if you keep them near a sunny window. I always like to mimc their natural environment since I've always caught mine wild and considering sunlight is not available year round, they enjoy the moderate sunlight and are absolutely smitten with their basking stone whenever it's cloudy. Theyve taken to relaxing on it after they eat and it actually helps them relax faster when I hold them as my warm hands mimic the stone. If you do choose a stone just make sure it is one that does not get too hot to avoid burns. I have one specifically meant for smaller lizards.

Pretty decent tank not bad, though I would definitely reccomend adding a heat bulb since they need a basking spot of 90°F, as well as separating them in the near future since it looks like they're both males and may potentially fight and injure each other, the one that was eating a cricket was already showing its dorsal crest which only appears when they start displaying against females, for mating and to males for dominance. Cool video though

That is a nice tank! But I prefer you should use real plants. If u do end up using real plants, you should use bramilliads.they are nice plants that are very exotic and they keep water inside of them. And if you do end up changing the tank I prefer you should use an 18x18.and use a drainage layer, all you need for a drainage layer is hydro balls and mesh and also they LOVE soldier fly larvae so those are good food. AWSOME video!

Well, if they're brown you might want to heat them up a little more. When they're green it means they're active and comfortable, but if they're brown it means they're stressed or asleep. If they're a super dark brown, it's a sign of illness or immense stress. Just try to brighten the cage and add some green. Make sure they have a hot spot and a cool spot. the hot should be around 90 degrees f and the cold should be 80.

@Zach-cc4ft
@Zach-cc4ft 2 жыл бұрын
They can eat super worms as an extra food on top of crickets, from what I've read people usually just recommend it not be their main diet, but the usual large size they come in is way too big for anoles, needs to be like half that size or less. They're not like snakes and some other lizards where they devour large food and take forever to swallow it. If it takes them longer than a few seconds to eat their food it's usually too big, the recommendation is about the size of the space between their eyes. The 'large' crickets you get at stores are usually too big too. I've had a lot better results with my anoles after having many browns and greens after switching to smaller food they can eat quickly.

I’m not sure that you will see this but I live in north GA , it is very cold right now . I work in a bank and I found an Anole in the room with the safe deposit boxes . He was very lethargic and had apparently been there for Atleast 2 months . I picked him up and brought him home because I think it it’s too cold for him to find a safe place to hibernate ( not to mention I’ve seen Skanks but never in anole in North Georgia). I got a tank and I put live plants in a bunch of things for him to jump on and water I got crickets and mealworms. I sprayed the tank as soon as I got it set up and he was very thirsty and dehydrated he drank for a long time. I’ve had them in the tank for three days but he hasn’t eaten yet does he just need to settle in before he eats? Or Maybe he is too scared being in a cage that he won’t eat until he dies? I imagine he hasn’t eaten in at least 2 to 3 months because we do not have any bugs in our bank for him to eat. Any suggestions would be helpful I just I’m trying to help him until it’s warm enough for me to set him free but I don’t want him to die in the meantime.

You shouldn’t really keep anoles you found in the wild because they can carry disease...there is some eco earth that’s more like mulch that you can buy if you don’t want like the dirt base.

Run into any issues with parasites? I’ve seen a few things about how reptiles are prone to parasites but I really haven’t seen a video showing the “best” way to rid them of parasites if you think they may have been into contact. I’ve heard a few people say don’t feed them crickets but then I’ve also read that crickets are a main part of their diet. Any advice from your experience with any of this would be greatly appreciated.

Reptiles are prone to parasites if they eat bugs from outside. If you breed your own or buy them it's very unlikely. I bring my tortoise outside every day and thry have gotten worms. So make sure if you do go outside you get them on a deworming schedule. Other then that I haven't seen much on any other parasites

I've had my green anoles for a little over 6 months hatched them from eggs and they don't really use their water dish I use a spray bottle to mist the inside of the enclosure where I have Vines and fake leaves for them to climb on and they usually just drink the water droplets off the top of the leaves and off the little rocks that I have but I have not seen them drink from their water dish but that's not to say they don't use their water dish I just haven't seen them drink from it

I'm not sure about all that I do know if they are 2 male anoles they will fight
@joeysfieldherpingadventure8861
@joeysfieldherpingadventure8861 2 жыл бұрын
I'd be more worried about disease spreading over habitat similarities. What a crocodile skink has that doesn't hurt them could be fatal for an anole, and vice versa. You *can cohabitate green anoles with green tree frogs and rough green snakes, provided you have a big enough enclosure(about double or triple what you would need for an individual) because all three have the same(or similar) requirements AND live together in the same habitats in the wild, and as such are exposed to the same diseases, that said research should be done heavily before adding them together. even if no one "bothers" the other, being close by without differing areas to hide can cause stress, and all the animals will be competing for the same resources(food, basking spots, hiding spots, etc.) It's generally not worth it unless you have a lot of money to burn on a really big enclosure with tons of basking spots, hiding areas, and plenty of food to make sure no one is getting stressed and bullied out of what they need.
