In this episode I go over in detail, how to completely setup and get rigged up for catching big fish. Helping you understand class ratings of rods versus reels, how to thread your line through a maze of roller guides... and what I consider to be the best knot for your terminal tackle when using a thicker mainline. If your getting into hunting down some of the titans of the sea, and are wondering about a starting place... Look no further, the info is here.
Enjoy ;)
Tight lines & good vibes.

Hi Heath, Matching the rod, line and reel is so important. I remember using any rod and reel that we had to go flounder fishing. Some were too stiff and some to light. As I learned what tackle to use for flounder, I realized how much better the balance between the rod, line and reel made the fishing so much better. I always look at the line and lure ratings before I purchase a rod. "Hi" to the "Fish Slayer" and the "Fishing Girls." Have a good weekend and good luck, Mickey

Hi Mickey thanks for taking out time to stop by and always chat with me and be there for me and my family. One of the most tricky aspects of fishing and perfecting the craft is rod real and line selection. And of course everyone's version of it is different so there's really no straightforward answer as to what's right versus what's wrong. In the end it's how it performs when you've got a fish on the other end. But I used to do the same thing as you did just grab anything and throw it together. Took many years and now I find myself consistently going back to the setups that I use even if they break down and fail I just replace them with pretty much the same thing instead of trying to reinvent the wheel. All the kids say hi Mickey. Everyone here is doing well hope the same for you and your family. Hope you're enjoying being back in Jersey. Again can't thank you enough for always being here for me. Take care and I'll talk to you on Sunday. :)

Hi Alex thanks for stopping by and taking out time to watch and chat with me. I did get your message I've just been overloaded with dealing with a family emergency, a vehicle breaking down, and trying to figure out how to keep the show up and running without driving myself crazy. I'll let you know if I'm able to get out and do anything this up and coming week I was really planning on going to see my grandmother for Thanksgiving but dealing with my family and making sure everything is taken care of on that end first is more important. @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing

Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. If you're fishing out of Sarasota on the west coast of Florida you'll be looking for an East wind that'll lay down your seas really calm and create a swell that will come in from the West. The gulf is a little bit tricky though when it comes to that because you will have an East wind which will make it bumpy on the way back to shore. That's just the way it is regardless of where you're fishing. If you have a west wind and you want a fish and calm seas you'll want the winds to be between 5 and 10 knots that way it's nothing ridiculously bumpy for when you get out there and so you can enjoy. I usually look at the website from Noaa for my Marine forecasts. They're usually fairly accurate and they update it a couple of times a day. Hope this helps. Thanks again for your supportive channel I truly and sincerely appreciate it. Tight lines & take care ;)

Hi i just bought a older Daiwa sealine SL 22 HRG 61/2 rod and reel at a yard sale to use on my boat i never used one of these before it has the double roller for the first guide and 4 regular guides and a single roller gude at the tip does the line go inbetween the first double roller and does it go on top or under the tip roller
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing

For the first guide the line will go between the rollers... the one on the tip, hav the guides facing up, the line will go on top of the roller

Would you recommend this knot on a 30# mono set up?
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. Yes of course you can use this not on 30 lb test. Personally I would just go with a standard clinch knot wrapped around your main line six times and then send back through. Hope this helps. How you doing Heath? Nice video once again 👍 👌. I was always wondering how good are those rods from coastal because the price on them last time I checked its pretty reasonable and I dare to say that they are leaning towards the cheaper side of the market. Are they any good? I'm waiting for your reply. Thanks in advance and keep up with a good videos and give us one with a big game fish 🐟 😀
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks man for watching and asking a great question. The coastal fishing equipment rods are pretty good. They're a great price and a great deal and I do hold up against big fish. If you're trying to stick to some sort of budget you're definitely getting your money's worth out of the rods. Any other comparable rod from a more well-known company like Star rod or pen or daiwa is going to be 3 to 4 times the price of these rods. But I've never had any problems with it mechanically speaking. Hope this helps. Thanks again for taking out time to stop by and chat with me I truly and sincerely appreciate it. Always great to hear from you. Thanks again. Tight lines & take care ;)

Thanks for these videos. I just got an International 30 from my father-in-law. He’s got some old 60lb mono on it (don’t know how long it’s been on there) and I want to replace it. It’ll be on a 100lb custom rod with rollers. I want to add some heavy braid on it, with a mono top shot. Looking to use it for trolling blue fin and a heavy rod for night blue fin fishing with potential of 100lb+. What would you recommend for main line braid size and mono top shot?
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing

I'd go with 80 lb braid and 80lb mono... but I'm not a bluefin Tuna guy... they might go heavier... but with that reel you'll have the line capacity at 80
