I couldn’t sharpen a chain nine months ago I looked up on KZfaq how to sharpen a power saw chain buckin’s video was the third one from the top so I watched it I’ve ruined 80 bucks worth of chains trying to get the hang of it but now every time flawlessly do it perfectly every time so thank you buckin for your knowledge you teach me everything I’ve known working with the tree company that I was working with they wouldn’t show me anything so I had to learn it from your Channel thank you buckin much love to you man stay kind

Thank you. Also, at about 10:12 in, you edit a quick "BRRRAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHP" with that big ol' Makita, and then cut back to quietly filing on the chain on your tailgate... I bust out laughin! I like sharpening for "fast" cutting, in soft wood, endurance in hardwood. For fast cutting: steeper angle, and elevated (towards the sky). For hardwood semi-chisel (round top plate) and sharpen to "exact" angles. (just my personal philosophy) 😁😁😁😁😁 I have to add: any type of filing that differs from "factory specs" per se; can be extremely dangerous to operator or by standers........Have a great and SAFE day everyone!!!!! Great filing tutorial, and seeing the big rope bundled up in the bed of the truck reminds me of when you talked about laying the ropes down and the chainsaw bars sitting on top of them while you drive, saving the sharp teeth on the chains... Love that trick.

Little over two years ago I was pretty good at sharpening. But after watching bucking now my sharpening game is gone through the roof. I run a stock 372xp x-torq. Most of the time I'm running a 28. If you know how to sharpen that will make life fun.

Hi Buckin, Nice little tutorial on hand filing! A sharp chain will make any saw enjoyable to cut with. That pipe of Morgan"s on the Dolmar sounds and looks like it works well.

I'm working on it and finding some success with a file. It is easy to sharpen a chain, but VERY hard to sharpen one very well! Big difference between the two.

The sound when the file is gliding is so wonderful, I went through a lot of different brand files.. currently using a forester, it's got a mean spiral to it seems to sharpen very well.. After watching a video of yours a while back, I went out and got a yoga ball and have been using it. It really helped me get out of a slump

When I am teaching newbies how to filing a chain for the first time, I use this analogy; when the file goes from chattery to smooth, you are 90% from complete, then do 3-4 strokes under the tooth to clean it up. This nearly always has them filing adequately by the end of filing a full 28” or 32” chain. On our smaller saws with semi-chisel profiles a lot of guys actually find these harder to sharpen well.

Admittedly I don't like to hand file.. I ran a hardware store so I got REAL comfortable on a grinder years ago. That said, I've incorporated some of your theory and geometry- just with CBN round wheels- and have had some mighty fine cutting chains. I spent years not getting quite enough hook. They cut, but not like they do now :-) So thanks man. Again.

Hey buckin! I know you're a guy that likes to bust sharpening myths in a sense and try new things(baby c, chip dump, square filing by hand, etc) I know you're an oregon guy, was wondering if you were gonna try the Stihl hexa chain! It's kinda like square ground but not quite the same as what you do

I see a lot of people file the rakers "way down" . I think that is probably not good, especially in low to mid power saws; performance actually is reduced I think. (opinion) Chain speed and follow thru without stoppage is essential for overall speed of production (also an opinion) Buckin' has reinforced and educated me at the same time on overall power saw operation and maintenance, thanks BBR!!!!!

yeah me too, i've gotten better at it lately, BBR always reminds me the time spent filin will be more than made up for by cuttin faster!!

I have a simpler solution. I give my chains to an Amish guy to sharpen, have a cup of tea & maybe(hopefully) some peanut butter pie while I wait. And while he's busy we argue who has a better chance at getting a date with (pick your celebrity) but lately we argue about Jewel. Fun fact I learned about 3-4 months ago, Jewel & Shania Twain are NOT sisters.

agree buckin 100 percent another thing is if you dont know how to file a chain your wasting gas energy its more harder on your saw and your wasting time and you're working harder not smarter great video buckin even know im not the filer my self im deadly on the grinder iv fixed chains my friends say there junk the give them to me then i let them cut with my saw with their old chain they don't believe me it's there old chain lol

Not tried yet... I bought one of them square tube jobbies that slides into the trailer hitch (and the extension to past the tailgate) then up to a flat plate that will hold my 5" vice. (Bought a better one for replacing the garage 5") ~ More for in the field use up at gramp's old digs that's half wooded...and quite a few beavers. I'm not as skilled/used to as you. I figured I'd give myself a break holding the saw still for two handed/moving the blade around. One bar is 28". ~~ Tad bit of wobble from connections. (three pieces) But the file does the work right? My frustration is watching for where I began. methinks I need a dayglo color sharpie. (-:
