It seems to me that people that still enjoy this type of work are just real people. My dad recently passed so I’ve inherited his axes, saws and several tools all in need of repair, really a thorough servicing, so I thank you for your help and your great personality. Definitely a blessing.

Hitting the same spot reminds you how it hurts and the bones definitely don't like it. You should ice it down to minimize the swell. Hope it heals fast. You have been more into sharpening I see. Its fun. I like it. Wish you and your family a happy day. Mort

Man, I've so much bucked still to split, my body will be the shortcoming after tuning up the forged steel tools. Yup, I need a body tune-up. Anyone want to jump in on the body tune-up prep for us old desk jockeys emboldened with will but weak in the core? I'll need a full body ice bath by Monday. Be well. Just....absolutely! had to comment on your awesome channel, and your awesome enthusiasm Buckin’! First time checking you out, and you’re off the charts authentic! Off the charts friendly! And off the charts entertaining! Last fall I unearthed a very similar, massively pitted, single blade axe head, while metal detecting an old, long forgotten farmstead, here in Ontario Canada. I had left it on a rock, thinking it wasn’t worth the effort. But after repeatedly thinking about its potential, I went back last week, and had a bit of a time finding it again. Your video couldn’t come at a better time! I’m so inspired now to bring this long forgotten, discarded, old pitted relic, back into the 21st century! Thankyou for showing the world that nothing is too far gone to not be re-appreciated.🙏 I’m a new fan and will gladly subscribe and follow you from this day forward my friend. Peace and much happiness.❤️ Mark Y.

Hey Buckin' very serious question for you, the fit round the bottom of the head you want no shelf and curl all the way round but does the top of the eye need to be full before you put a wedge in it or can you have gap all the way round and the wedge fill that out. I am making my own handle for the first time and I have found that I have got the top of the handle quite thin, it felt like it needed it to get the head on but now I am worried if my head will move? Thanks in advance buckin' you are a legend. Hope you didn't hurt your hand too much.

I'd take some of the radius out as well, because there's too much as it's been over sharpened in the past. I think at this era ( mid 70's ) Mann edge probably did use those aluminum wedges. I'm sure the steel is decent, but they sure aren't on anybody's list of axes to find.

Hey Buddy I had a little hardware store in small town Alberta in the late 70,s and 80,s and I sold axes. The Swedish axes sold for about $20 and I sold 5 to 1 over the Ox Brand axes but I loved the Ox Brands myself so always stocked a few. They were over twice the price of the Swedish axes but the old guys who had really used an axe would come in and handle the Ox axes and I would watch their eyes light up at the feel of them. One old fellow, a big bugger, told me he had cleared his homestead quarter (160 acres) with an axe. Do you think he knew what a good axe felt like? Keep on Billying Billy

So someone said in a video I seen recently that using the power tools messes with the heat treatment and can ruin it easily, do you agree or disagree?

What kind of a belt sander is this? Been looking to get one but they don't sell anything like this in the hardware stores I've been to (in europe)

If you boil a rusty axe in water for like 20min and rub off the surface with steel wool it will change the rust to gun blue (rust bluing) wich is rust resisting and looks beautiful with a light oil. It'd make some of those vintage axes shine like new but maintain their antique status

Does it have to be cleaned of oil first, i found an axe head yesterday and began taking of the red rust. Now im down to the black oxcide

@chadlinton.919 yes it typically works better when oil is removed with a solvent before boiling it can take multiple cycles of boiling and carding it should be forming a light almost fuzzy red surface rust each time that you rub off with steel wool eventually will be all black ⚫️ and oil it once you are completely done

Will it lose its temper?
@14022240625
@14022240625 6 ай бұрын
@chadlinton.919 it shouldn't lose its temper until at least until 400°f being a ax head probably tempered to 600°f so should be good just be careful when sharpening it to keep it cool if using power tools
