I help dedicated male rock singers improve vocal performance through optimized training of body and mind, based on solid foundation of my experience. (over 30yrs as a professional singer and over 20yrs as a professional vocal coach). I am the leading expert in what I call “Rapid Vocal Transformation” (RVT) by solving singers' vocal problems FAST. If jim were here today, he couldn't do anything because of the absolute corruption in the industry....He came along exactly at the right time in history.

@@kathrynmcelroy5658 I agree, partially, cause the guy was a strikingly good looking fella and that would help give him gain some attention. Though there is one benefit today that could have helped him: Rehab. I just think of the stories he'd have and could've told. And it's clear from LA Woman that he was going for a more introspective blues direction with lyrics based on some of his night-time experiences. I mean, he'd have been a more honest Leonard Cohen or Tom Waits than either of them, no mark against either of them, but he lived through topless bars, sleazy motels, cops in cars, rolling from girlfriends (or boyfriends) houses until each of them got sick of his antics, and getting f*cked up on his crippling addiction to booze. He'd have stories and songs drawn from his wild experiences, especially with his non-musical buddies who have some wild stories of their own about the guy. I wish rehab was a common thing in 1971. I think the surviving Doors members wish it too.

I had no idea his pronunciation and lack of distinct consonants was so much that way in LA woman until I heard this isolated vocal. It sounds great though, it’s like he is taking on a certain character, to capture a certain feeling just for that song

Yeah, well put about the character and feeling! He was very good at playing different 'roles' throughout his songs - very creative!

something many Doors fans aren't aware of: Morrison said in an interview that one of his favorite singers was Frank Sinatra and that he tried to emulate him in his singing ✌️

Well, he definitely sang like a crooner... For better or worse. Mike Nelson from Mystery Science Theater 3000 said that Morrison sounded like your drunk dad screaming along to the radio. I love the Doors, but this assessment is pretty accurate.

Jim Morrison improved so much if you listen to 1966 London Fog tapes... It would be GREAT if you could do the three lead singers of Chicago -- Terry Kath, Peter Cetera, Robert Lamm

On Break On Through, I don’t believe his voice sounded fatigued much at all. In fact, I believe the grit and rawness in his belts were somewhat deliberate. Because although his high belted notes were a bit hoarse(probably due to excessive drinking, drug use, and smoking), I didn’t hear much straining or pushing to reach those notes, but more like he was intentionally putting on more distortion(improperly and unhealthily it sounds)to his voices already natural grit. Excellent video though, I really enjoyed and appreciated your analyses and breakdown. It was both informative and fun.

great video. thanks for putting the time into making it. I've been a huge fan of The Doors ever since I was 19 and read many books about the band. My favorite books are Light My Fire by Ray Manzerak and Life, Death, Legend by Stephen Davis, the latter being my favorite. Thanks again.

12:43 good impression / discussion! you seem to have more upper range? tone? than he did, but the highest notes of the songs were accessed only via screaming or shrieking... I have wondered for years how to get that right

Thanks man. Great video. I'm trying to kick off a Morrison tribute. I can sing. But, the scramble to the scream, I just can't, comfortably. When the voice breaks as I reach up - I falter. Is it confidence or something more?

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! I would suspect that it’s down to support, although “faltering” has such a subjective connotation that without hearing it would be impossible for me to comment… consider booking a private session and we can dive deep and resolve your concern- possibly even in the 15min free consultation 😉👍🏼

I never cared for L.A. Woman's mouth-full-of marbles sound. I heard him sing it clearly in Dallas. It was much better. Also, L.A. Woman on the 40th anniversary of album is a much better version, IMO, as was the whole album.

Oh, by this time in Jim's career, he is tired and ready to get out of contract. He was over worked and tired of the fame game. He just wants to get the song over with. Read John Densmore's book about how their producer Paul Rothschild made them do up to 50 something takes. Jim wouldn't even show up half the time. John indicated that the first take sound as good as the 50 something take.
