One thing I'm seeing is that when you start on the top note, the first note which is also the highest, your tongue is high up to give it more brightness, and it gradually lowers as you go lower down the scale. I think that that should be mentioned as well.

Hi, Ms. Freya. I've been practicing any chance I get for months (I do admit that sometimes I won't get the chance for a week at a time but I still try to at least do warm ups and sing easier pieces)and really want to hit that E6(high E) at the end of "Phantom of the Opera" but still can't. I'm super frustrated. What makes my frustration worse is that I can sing every other single note up to that point. The sustained C6 (High C) just before hand is no issue. I try for the last note and it comes out croaky and squeaky and just absolutely terrible. It's maddening. It's like my voice is saying "Ha ha, you can have all the notes but that one" I have "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" and "All I Ask of You" (both also from Phantom of the Opera) pretty much mastered and they both have some high notes (although not that high). Any tips/ advice that would let me hit that note right off? I'm feeling super discouraged but I know there must be something I'm not trying or doing right. I relax all the muscles in my body, and do everything else that is recommended. I even spend at least 10 - 15 minutes warming up before attempting to sing. I can post recordings if you want/need. Thank you.

Appreciate that you, yourself, sing soprano, thus the title "soprano edition to distinguish it from your other oh... no other editions. Ah. Were you intending to add other editions either from yourself, or collaborations with others who have different ranges ? Meanwhile, I'll watch this one anyway. I may never get a 7 octave range but maybe my falsetto and flageolet might benefit 🙂

Work out before you sing. Vocal tension can be your biggest enemy. For me, I had to be physically exhausted to undo the vocal tension I had become accustomed to when I sang. After undoing that muscle memory it improved my ability greatly.

My goodness... the highest note she sang is almost too high for me... and I can sing quite a bit over the highest note in O Holy Night (soprano version, like really soprano. is it mezzo soprano? I forgot). I guess it's just my voice today. Also I never scream so I can't really relate to her. Was trying to find a vocal teacher to help me with my high opera, but everyone is so expensive. It's really a bummer to cause KZfaq doesn't help at all.

@aacha548
@aacha548 5 жыл бұрын
Oh that clarifies everything! For me singing with vibrato spin etc is nothing like screaming. It feels really different. But I have an easy Loud sound as well that also sounds like a scream. I use it to call my dog at the beach etc. When people have talked about controlled screaming recently I though they meant something entirely different to the way I normally sing high - ie more along the lines of the way I Call my dog. From your opera videos which I just found last night, I realized I'm actually going alright up in the high range after all. I've been in such a world of confusion lately and you've really helped me clear all that mess away. But I have a teacher and its to do with him teaching me the middle voice and bla dal. Thanks Freya.!!

No, no, that's not a real opera. I can clearly see your tongue going up while singing high wich means your throat is getting closed. That's wrong and it couldn't be fully heard on big stages without microphones. Your musical singing is pretty good but for the operatic it needs a lot of researching. Nowadays there are a lot of stereotypes about operatic singing like singing in the mask. The chest voice is the real clue to achieve the satysfying effect. Not the light and flat head voice without any support which is wrong and sadly prevailed by many singing teachers.
@martamatuszewska6549
@martamatuszewska6549 4 жыл бұрын
Freya Casey I appreciate :) Many things you say are very accurate like released jaw etc. because many teachers reccomend spreading and showing teeth instead which gives flat sound without power. I didn't agree with the way you show high sounds. Probably it's the matter I'm really in love and admiring towards old singing school in which is saying that super high notes shouldn't be thinner that middle register and still opened and released. I can reccomend listening to Luisa Tatrazzini. She was also found a light lirico soprano but despite she had a strong chest support. And sang for 200-300 thousand people without mike. I still respect your work and watched more videos that impressed me with your knowledge about many more types of singing. :) All the best!
