The title of this video wins the award for the least-searched term of all time!
My studio is my happy place. Sofa, kettle, rugs, patio chairs and sun lounger, woollen blankets and a crackling fire for winter...but it's much more than that. It's where I am privileged to play just as a child plays - all day long, forever. Painting, sewing, filming, writing, designing, drawing, teaching, learning - it all happens in this cosy space. I put in the hours but I never work a single day.
It was a long time coming. Outhouses were popping up all over my property when the chidren were small, but I was too distracted and my hands were too full for me to say "hang on! I'll have one of those!" In the end the stars aligned and this little place, that was once a shed (albeit one hand-built from insulated panels by my resourceful husband Marcel), became this magical log cabin in the woods.
Down here I am with horses, cattle and sheep, and I see stoats, raptors and rodents all around me. Above all I see a fluffy white dog, my good friend Reuben. By and large I am unvisited here. I have studio lights, wifi and power. I have a sewing machine and an iron. I have a sink and a tap. I have all the inventory I need to fill my SketchPockets when they are finally ready to send across the globe.
So I have caught it in my sketchbook on a lovely day in summer. I invite you to sketch it with me.
