Here's another *BIG* missed opportunity (imo): *Barbara & Diana should already be friends at the start of the film.* Why this makes sense: 1. The most interesting thing about Cheetah is that she's Diana's friend. Diana should feel terrible about having to fight her. But the film glosses over this personal conflict because Barbara's just someone she met last week. 2. Films have limited screentime. WW84 gave us a couple of scenes establishing their friendship from scratch. If they're already friends, we can get a couple of scenes (same amount of screentime) showcasing their camaraderie and banter. It would make us care about their relationship way more. 3. It's a unique opportunity up for grabs due to the time jump. We can easily buy that their friendship started sometime between the two films. 4. Instead of seeing random pics of Diana on a farm ranch, we could see pics of Barbara and Diana from the past few years, further establishing their friendship.

I would have rather she wore the armor because she was losing her powers, so she wears it so she can stand a chance vs cheetah. And during the fight shes getting beat, barely staying alive and Steve could have the moment THEN where he tells her to denounce her wish, she does and returns to full strength and wins the fight. The armor served no purpose other than "this will look cool in trailers/toys"

When I was watching the movie and Wonder Woman was losing her powers, I thought "oh, the golden eagle army is gonna let her take on cheetah while she doesn't have her powers," then she fails to defeat Cheetah with the armor and no powers, then realizes she has to let Steve go.

Diana: “Fighting’s not hard. You just gotta use your opponent’s weight against them.” Also Diana: *BIRD ARMOR*

I hate to say it, but this movie might warrant a full Nando rewrite.

I laughed so much when she flies for what seemed like hours, catching a plane, going through a storm, we see the day fading, all of that to go to... her appartment to grab the armor... her appartment in the same city she was already in. She would have been so much faster by taking the bus. And next scene she's in the base she absolutelyy never heard about. Who wrote that ?

You underplay how weird it was that the armor shows up directly AFTER the scene where she flies. Like she flies, using just her arms, then she lands, THEN she puts on her wings. First fly. Then wings. ??????

Not to nitpick -- not unlike your podcast, Mostly Nitpicking -- but I think you exceeded your podcast plug quota for this video.

I will never understand why studios that can afford to spend hundreds of millions on making a movie but can’t afford to pay someone like you to review the screenplay before filming starts. Can you imagine how much better these movies would be if someone were paid to just be there and say “I get that we have to cut a lot out, but these are the parts that have to stay for the story to have meaning”.

The real missed opportunity was to rewrite the entire movie.

Honestly the thing that annoyed me the most is that they didn't even _try_ to hide the fact that the golden armor was there to sell toys. Diana has her big flight scene, then just picks up the armor on way to the final fight.

Also, here’s a way to introduce the Eagle Armor better: that Max Lord goes to get it IN Cairo, since he’s done his research on Greek Mythology and found a connection between Asteria and the Amazons. Wonder Woman and Steve barely get to it before he does, so he resorts to using Cheetah as a Plan B

I think the golden armor was probably the worst thing about the movie. It serves no plot, character, or even logical purpose. They just completely halt the story to explain it even though it doesn't have anything to do with anything.

The logic of how the stone works is a bit weird. I mean, it just feels like some people had a way easier time going back on their wish than others - like the coffee guy: "Oh, you mean I have to cancel my wish for the coffee I ALREADY DRANK DAYS AGO? Sure, I guess I'm gonna save the world by having that coffee I already purged from my system called back. It won't inconvenience me one bit anyway"

I gotta say, I love the X-Men: Evolution reference, you're right, more people need to watch it, and it's on Disney+.

And the final boss? Medium-sized grey CGI monster! Yay! The movie didn't give us another giant-sized grey CGI monster! Diversity!!!

Here is a few more things to add: 1) Establish that Barbara and Diana are already friends and coworkers that go to lunch daily together. 2) Make the jet at the Smithsonian already wonder woman’s invisible jet ... pretty much make that part of the Smithsonian part of wonder woman’s base of operation 3) wonder woman peach Steve how to fly the plane since he would have never seen one like that

There was no reason for Wonder Woman to don the Golden Eagle armor for the final fight because, as far as she knows, she's only fighting guys with guns, who she is 100% capable of taking on without it. And, as much as I hate how the movie shoehorns in Cheetah, much like Spider-Man 3 shoehorned in Venom for the final act. I thought it would have made more sense for her to have lost her previous fight with the full-powered Cheetah because she didn't have her powers. Then to compensate for that, she dons the armor so she stands a better chance in their second fight.

I got a few other rewrites too. What's crazy is that I had the same idea that Diana should use the armor before she gives up Steve. It gives the armor an actual use. I'm glad I wasn't the only one that thought of this. Secondly, the invisible plane. I love that we actually get one but I hate that Diana has the random ability to make things invisible. There's a simple fix. I'm the film it establishes that items can imbued with a great power that usually involves a single word (stone = lies, lasso = truth, Nando created armor = anger). I would add the "cap of invisibility." This is an actual Greek item worn by Hades, Athena, and Hermes that renders the wearer invisible. This can be explained before Steve questions the golden armor. Next, the lasso of truth makes WW look like Spider-man. It's also inconsistent. She uses it to swing from pillars like Indiana Jones, which is fine. However, she can also use it to pull herself when it's attached to lightning or literally nothing in the air. Lastly, the movie end with little to no consequences. While I love the happy ending, it didn't make sense that Cheetah didn't die.

I've got a massive problem with this movie. And it stems from something I noticed while watching, and continued thinking about afterwards. This movie should not have been set in 1984. Here's some reasons why: Not-Reagan wishes for nuclear weapons, and launches them, but revokes his wish and the weapons disappear. Except we clearly see missiles being launched from the USSR. The Soviets did not wish for nuclear weapons. Why do their missiles disappear? And even if we assume they do, why does that end WW3? Like, the movie has huge stakes that don't really make any sense in the context of the rest of the DCEU. Another example my friend pointed out. In Batman V. Superman, Bruce Wayne's Parent's Graves say they died 1981. This movie takes place 1984. So, Young Bruce Wayne, 3 years after his parents die, gets to wish them back to life. . . and this doesn't affect him? Or are you telling me Bruce Wayne, who is still brooding over his parents deaths 40 years later, doesn't wish his parents back?

Doesn't Cheetah have Diana's strength in addition to whatever buffs she gets from her human cheetah form?

Golden Quail Armor is already the best thing I've heard all week.

The entire film is problematic to me because they don't truly dive into WW's lore and world building. I enjoyed this!

While I agree that your version of the golden armor would work better, honestly, I think the best thing for the movie would have been if it weren't included at all. The movie is a little bloated, and it could easily just drop the armor with almost no changes whatsoever. The thing I thought was the weirdest decision was the way they ordered the scenes of her flying. She learns to fly first and then, for some inexplicable reason starts lassoing lightning. Lassoing lightning is a badass moment, but everything cool about it is undercut by the fact that she just learned to fly so it serves no purpose. If she has to learn to fly (and I don't think that she does), she she do so after lassoing clouds and lighting for a bit. Honestly, I would have preferred if she just stuck to that the whole way, but if she must fly, it should be after, not before that segment.

There's a lot of 'Berzerk' in this re-write! The double edged sword of Guts' armor giving him strength but drawing him further away from his humanity.

They should have made her wear the armor when she was weak, and drop it when she didn't need it anymore, it would have not only made more sense, but it would be a better representation of the origin of the armor in the comics as something she wears when she lost her way. edit: Oh, that is what you propose, I commented before watching the video completely

A simple post credits scene with the armor back on display at the Smithsonian shot from a low angle panning up and around as a house cat that got into the museum walks up to it and does the cat thing where they rub up on your legs and purr. His owner runs up to get him calling his name "Dex get away from that! Let's go home." as they walk away a red glint on the cats tail shows.

The only part of this movie that made me actually gasp was the Linda Carter reveal. Seriously. That was the only part that made me smile.

I liked WW84, but it had script problems way more egregious than how the armor was used. For starters, Cheetah should have been the primary emotional antagonist, while Lord was just the plot villain (like the dynamic between Catwoman and Penguin in Batman Returns). Barbara was way more in need of a full character arc and resolution beyond being Lord's henchwoman. Lord was fun, thanks to Pedro Pascal hamming it up, but his estranged son subplot ate up way too much screentime (likewise for the unnecessary detour to Egypt).

Its also weird how the wishes and consequences work. Like instead of: “I wish I had a million dollars” “Ok your grandfather is dead and you inherit their money” It’s like: “I wish I had a million dollars” “Ok, but also you have cancer now for some reason”

Isn't the statue of the armour at the start in the opening with young Diana? When she learns she can't take shortcuts Therefore, she effectively earns the armour after she renounces her wish because she's learnt that in the course of the film, that she can't take shortcuts or the easy route to get what she wants

Yoooooo, you hit the nail on the head with the idea of the lasso stopping working for her and she needs the armor to level up. That one small change would have reinforced the idea the young Diana sequence hammers home: Truth is the ideal that Diana needs to live up to (then lose the Mall sequence unless you later explain that the loss of wishes comes with a concomitant lose of memory of what happened as a result of the wish, not only cutting wheat from the chaff of the movie but also explaining how no one seemed to know about her in Batman v Superman)

It was just a bit odd cause she hypes it up throughout the film, puts it on, flies and hits some goons and then it gets destroyed, all that in the space of like 90 seconds

This was my problem with the film too, the armor didnt feel deserved at all. It just felt like one of dianas suits, I would've loved to see her earn the suit and successfully use it like the legends said

I would rather have Steve stop Diana from killing Cheetah and Cheetah scapes (to meet up with Max). Diana is so angry that Cheetah has escaped that she explodes, hurting Steve. Then she has remorse, sees the folly of her ways, renounces the armor and her wish. Then the movie proceeds as it had been but in the last battle Diana fights Cheetah without the armor and actually saves her life a couple of times (not just from the drowning/electrocution, but blocks bullets about to hit Cheetah) because Diana feels that she failed Minerva just like she failed Steve.

Actually, the armor does have symbolic weight. When Asteria used the armor, she sacrificed part of her self, her Amazonian identity, so those around her could be safe. When Diana puts the armor on, it represents her sacrificing Steve to save the world.

A small change I would make. Remove the end scene where she super weirdly flirts with Steve body double and instead have a scene with her and de-cheetahed Barbara. They're hanging out now, perhaps Diana is teaching her self defense, perhaps they're just nerding out about artifacts.

Also the cheeta was spoiled in the trailer so all the cool animal print hints throughout the film meant nothing

Thank you for also bringing up the body swap! I'm sure you've talked about it already or will, but it bothered me so much. My first thought was "where was this guy?" Was he dead, erased, in a coma? The fact that this didn't ever occur to both Diana and Steve, two people who it's been established are willing to die to protect others, really took me out of the story. There was the implication that if keeping Steve alive wasn't monkey-pawing Diana's powers away, she never would've revoked her wish, effectively killing a man to give Steve life. This isn't something either of these characters would've found acceptable ever. And there wasn't any reason for it either -- if the stone can give Barbara superpowers, and make nukes out of thin air, why can't it make a body for Steve to come back in? I thought maybe that was the monkey-paw of the deal, that Steve has to betray everything he stands for if he wants to live -- but nope.

Would you look at that- Nando did in maybe a week for the story what Jenkins and company couldn’t do with a few years time 😩 adding that element to the armor and therefore the plot wouldn’t drastically improved the end result of the movie, for sure?!

It would also tie in with the opening scene of "you cannot cheat to win"

What an interesting idea, it even matches with the opening "no cheating" "No shortcuts" idea we see on Themyscira. This went in a direction I wouldn't have even known to consider. This movie is a cool one to work with because there are a lot of pieces that work (or feel like they should work), it just doesn't pull all the elements together. In my own workshop with this movie (releasing 1/13) I focused on shoring up the character chemistry and making Cheetah feel like she has a place in this movie. But it was less about making an actual movie than making what I wanted from the trailer--which would have been a super powered girl team up movie. Great work, and I look forward to more pitches both for WW84 and other movies.

They should of saved the armor for a future movie

My biggest disappointment of the movie what that they hardly used the 80's aesthetic at all! No iconic music, no references to 80's films, it just takes place in '84. The setting really had no effect on the film at all

I really enjoyed WW84. My wife and I went out and saw it twice at a drive-in over Christmas weekend. I really liked it the first time we saw it and enjoyed it even more the second time. I liked that Wonder Woman spent a lot of effort to save people rather than just beating up bad guys. And I liked that she talked the big bad down rather than it ending in a big punch fight. Nice change of pace.

Rewrite would also fix the two wish plot hole for Barbara, apart from justifying the long run time

Just one thing to add to your scenario, Nando. Earlier in the film, Diana uses her lasso to reveal the armor's history to Steve, since it can not only reveal the truth, it can show it. So, when Steve arrives in your retelling and tries to stop Diana, he grabs the lasso off her belt, loops it around her wrist, and FORCES her to see the truth -- about herself, what she's become, and what she has to do to make things right. That would make Diana break down, realize the truth and ultimately renounce her wish. That would be a very compelling scene

Exactly the part with the armor was such a mixed opportunity. They could have build a huge plot line and really developed how she finds and trains and learns how to use it. But instead it was just there so she has this powerful armor but didn't train didn't know how to use it but then she all the sudden has it on and shes super capable. That was such a let down

The armor didn't make any sense in the movie. Didn't Diana say that the Amazons made it from pieces of their individual armor so Asteria could use it to buy time so the Amazons could escape to their island? Well, wouldn't the creation of that armor take months to make, and wouldn't it look kinda rough? So, the Amazons found time to make the armor but couldn't just use that time to escape? And... an entire army of men couldn't dent or scratch the armor, but a reject from the movie Cats rips it apart?

I was thinking the golden armor could have been used to disguise herself since in BvS she had gone missing for nearly a hundred years. Could explain a Wonder Woman not being id as Diana Prince for so long.

As always... you make one small change and the movie so much better!

I like it since it still fits with the movies' message that lies (well more like cheating) will not give you what you need, and being true to who you are and focusing on what is important is how you win. 'Cheating' using her armor will cause her to forget what she fights for, and realizibg that is wrong, she goes back to how she originally deals with enemies the right way, (compassion and fighting skills that subdue her opponent with least damage possible).

What about if it went one step further? Instead of Steve jumping in and stopping her, he gets between them and WW accidentally kills him. Stronger motivation to give up the armor, maybe?

The whole point was at the beginning she was competing for Asturias honor as the mightiest warrior. So when she found the armor and mentioned she only found that; it was for setting up the cameo and that she has the armor from the women she idolized. Her dawning the armor is her finally doing what child Diana wanted. It would have been cool to have had that kingdom coming meaning but just the statue she wanted to “win” is now what she is wearing.

This simple revamp already made the movie so much better!!!

I brought this up on Reddit. Bottom line, my issue with this movie is nothing really happened. The villains did die or get arrested. Everyone took back their wishes. It’s a 2 and half hour movie about nothing. This video suggest ideas that might improve the plot but I think it ends the same way. Nothing really happening.
