Yo soy Mexicano (pero soy de los Estados Unidos), y este vídeo era perfecto! A lot of times, Spanish from Mexico is the butt of a lot of jokes from Spanish speaking circles and countries but I'm so glad somebody recognized we speak very well with full pronunciation. The Mexican accent is very warm, very accessible for learners and friendly in my opinion but it seems to get put down a lot though. Ricky and this channel already gets this: Just because you don't have a Spain accent, doesn't mean your Spanish is invalid. Nosotros somos hispanohablantes , humanos, y iguales.

Gracias por comentar hermano! I love the diversity of Spanish, and I like to look beyond the stereotypes and generalizations, and give people raw info. I'm glad that I could share this video from my experience and Mexican Spanish will always be great to me. I don't know why people look down on it. Que Dios te bendiga hermano.

@@JAdoreQT123456 nothing wrong with that. I never really took into account what people said about the dialect because it's the most populated place so no matter what they say, it'll still be there standing strong. I miss the Mexican shows from my childhood. They were the best.

I adopted the Mexican accent because I found it to be useful in California where I am from. Ironically, i was using the Mexican accent with Spanish Spanish words thanks to the textbook companies; I confused people on the streets. I think the Mexican version of Spanish is good even if it is not regarded as prestigious in the U.S. U.S High School should focus on Standard Mexican Spanish over European Spanish. At the very least, the textbook companies should point out lexicon, pronoun and suffix differences between the two countries.
4 жыл бұрын
I don't understand why the books are like that, but I made sure to get books that taught Latin American Spanish after I learned that they taught me Spain Spanish. Household Spanish is a great vocab book. Also online you can find regional dictionaries!

Colombian and Venezuelan accents kind of botch the "s" in words pronouncing it with a "j" sound. You don't find that in Mexican Spanish. Puerto Rican accents botch the "r" pronouncing it like an "L". It sounds weird to me as a Mexican Spanish speaker because we pronounce every single letter exactly how it's written, except the "h" is silent. The video shows how he exaggerates the ending of a word but that is only in certain parts of Mexico states (some from barrios), accents vary but mainly very neutral that's why Hollywood prefers dubbing movies mainly with Mexican Spanish.

@ok 01 Well I suggest you cover your ears and if you watch Tv in Spanish TURN that shit off cause I will have to inform you that all the people in speaking Castellano on Tv have to neutral their accent which does sound Mexican....sort of like if a person from the south in the states chops up their words and doesn't pronounce all the letters in the words...to many it may not sound proper compared to let's say someone in California. By not pronouncing the all the letters in wordings may sound harsh and incomplete to others. Everyone is entitled to their opinion...I dislike hearing the words not being fully pronounced.

Usually these kind of videos go just for the accent or the slang but you went for the grammar and this is so standarized, you're correct we do use a lot the suffixes, this has to do with the left essence of nahuatl, that language have a lot of suffixes, so when the natives learned spanish and they realized it had suffixes too, that's when they started using them like crazy. So you truly teach how to speak like a mexican haha, great video.

I love this! Thank you for appreciating Mexican Spanish. It's one of the easiest to understand, as we don't really omit letter sounds, everything is pronounced. My husband is Cuban, and they skip over about half of their consonants, oftentimes skipping entire syllables, and not to mention they speak at lightning speed. Sometimes it's hard for me to understand his Spanish, but I'm getting better at it. (I call it Cubanese, lol.) Anywho, you're doing a great job. :) The sing-songy and whiny tones are from southern Mexico (Jal), as Northern Mexican Spanish (Sonora) sounds more gruff.

The "le" thing is funny, it comes from the formal way to speak and the use of imperative voice, which means two things, first, you are putting some distance between the person you are talking to (since you are talking "formally") but also you are telling the other people what to do. So when somebody is telling you "córrale" or "apúrele" the idea is that they are giving you an order, they expect you to follow that order immediately without asking anything. This is very disrespectful, and is "only" accepted when a person has way higher hierarchy position that the person who is being talked in that way: mom to son, rude boss to employee, trainer to trainee etc. Of course as it happens with everything rude, it can be told to your friends if you are close enough. The last situation, that I remember, where this can be used, is when you give an order that is obviously in the benefit of the person who must follow that order. Like when you give a very expected gift to somebody and you tell that person to grab it "Te compré el videojuego que querías, ahí está, agárralo, pero apúrele~"

@MrFreakHeavy 3 жыл бұрын
The last two examples are definitely playful ways to use them. Since the people you're talking to are close to you, the rudeness disappears and it becomes endearing. It's a show of friendship and closeness, not only are you allowed to do it but it's encouraged... obviously, the tome must always be playful. With someone who you aren't close enough saying it sounds rude, but being playful can sound condescending.

One thing I learned being afro-latino is that sometimes I just cant sound too fluent en Espanol because my voice is deeper than traditional native speakers because of distant African trait and distant latino trait so it makes it difficult but I guess it's just how you say it and not necessarily your voice pitch, my advice is just keep regular voice and change how words are uh said and yeah its works

But Mexican men have very deep voices too, Maybe your talikg about El Salvador or Ecuador. The average male is 4ft 5 in height being that short your destined to have a high voice.

Hey Rickie. I speak Castellano (Spain Spanish for those who don't know) and it's so similar to your newsreader Mexican speech 🤔😁👍. I've found Mexican Spanish easy to understand alongside Colombian, Cuban and Peruvian Spanish particularly (my Aunt is from Peru). But I must say, Chilean Spanish is like nothing on earth. They miss out whole words, letters, endings, bits of verbs and fill gaps with bits that don't belong. Your videos are so very comprehensive. Thanks for putting them up. I really appreciate what you do to help us all learn the greatest language on the planet xx

I just would like to point something to make it more complex for those studying Spanish. Accents in Mexico also may vary depending on the state or region (just like in the US). The type of accents on the video are -as many people already mentioned- from the south, if you come to the north, specially Sonora and Chihuahua you’ll notice that most of the people pronounce “ch” as “sh” and we normally use a lot of contractions and we have our own words that are not used in the rest of the country.

Same here. I couldn't even translate quartz countertop or house exterior siding to my parents. My grasp of Spanish is limited to common every day words my parents used when I was young. My English vocabulary expanded and matured so much it left my Spanish vocabulary behind since I didn't go to school in Mexico

I'm a native Australian English speaker who taught English as a First, Second and Foreign language. The only fault I can find with your English is that it is more correct to say "That accent is from the south of Mexico." Considering the mistakes that my native born English speakers made while I was teaching them you are really doing extremely well. Congratulations. As for my Spanish, I'm "high intermediate to low advanced" and still have lots to learn, including a consistent Mexican accent. My current conversation amigos son de Jalisco y el Ciudad de Mexico pero my jardinero son de otro parte de este país. (Todavia no sé de donde.) I'm still working on fluency - both expressive and receptive.

How about this idea for a video: Use a small clip of you talking at the speed where the spanish just flows out like a hundred miles an hour and compare it with the fast talk of some english songs like "rap god" in terms of syllables per second? If this is irrelevant for your channel or a bad idea, just say so please?
