Man! Your videos are just so good. I assumed the tritechs would be much lower pressure tbh! I must say i was only really interested in trying them 06 tips from them, but heard they block mega easy. Need fine mesh at pump like crazy. That said i reckon different tips will respond differently to different products. Keep up the great work mate 👍

Hi Great videos. Loads of good tips and info in the replies. Got a job. Wall panelling in hall, 1200mm high 18m2. Client would like it sprayed but the 10 doors and architive facing are all hand painted and i think it might look odd against the nice smooth finish of the spray finish. To do everything would take a considerable amount of time rubbing down a lot of the hand painted surface. Should I just a hand paint finish. They do want to do the entire hall. Thanks in advance.

Hi pete. I recently had to paint over old oilbased gloss. I gave it a good key and painted with bullseye 123 which was tinted. Left overnight to dry then painted with dulux wb satin . At the time seemed to me like bullseye was taking forever to dry. Im finished now but noticed the paint still really easy to scrath off. I know bullseye state seven days but who really has time to be waiting around? I did a test patch where i just keyed gloss and went straight over with satinwood just to check adhesion. Will see how that fares but it did seem to be sticking better already. Should i ditch the bullseye? Thanks again pete
@PaintHQ
@PaintHQ 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Mick.. it’ll be interesting how the keyed gloss and straight on with satinwood fares.. my initial thought is to think the old gloss isn’t sound.. often when I come across old gloss work on panel doors, the old paint job looks sound, then when prepping, the gloss just peels and peels.. in this scenario, I prep as much as feasible, then I use Zinnser Peel Stop, followed by an adhesion primer such as Caparol Haftprimer, or Tikkurila Otex Akva.. these are my usual adhesion primers.. I typically wouldn’t use 123, I’d probably choose BIN.. and yeah, I too am surprised 123 would take an overly long time, you would be wanting to top coat definitely by the next day 👍 Hope this helps a little.. check out the Haftprimer or Otex Akva when you get chance, both are waterborne 👍 let me know how you get on my friend, always great to hear from you.. regards Pete

Have you tried the tritech 206 or 306 tips? I only have graco fflp tips atm and they only go down to an 08, and would love to know if you think it'd be worth picking up the tritech guard and those 06 tips. I only really spray latex and urethane enamels that tend to be on the not so thin side (unless I'm priming with bin of course, but I do have a Graco 9.5 hvlp for extremely fine finishing).
@PaintHQ
@PaintHQ 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Alex.. you raise a good question.. I haven’t used the .006 TriTech tips, it’s something on my list to try out, especially with me using low viscosity (very thin) spray only coatings.. what I’ve learnt about .006 tips, they’ll typically need a higher pressure Vs .008 and .010 tips.. what was explained to me, it’s because you’re pushing pigmented material through an orifice the size of two human hairs.. clear lacquers would behave a little ‘better’.. also for this reason, .006 tips will need a greater level of filtration, such as a 200 mesh filter to avoid the higher risk of tip blockages.. you could use a 100 mesh in the manifold, but I’d go for a 200 in the gun.. hope this helps, great to have your input on the channel.. regards Pete

Hey Ken, really appreciate you saying that 💯 ..In this video I was spraying a low viscosity primer and top coat by AkzoNobel.. low viscosity is typically thin in consistency, and sprays lovely with .008 tip (I used a 208 if I recall).. Whereas a decorative coating that are usually thicker because they can also be brushed, a .010 tip such as a 210 / 310 will (usually) be perfect 👍 It is on my list to demonstrate manufacturer costing Vs decorative and maybe spraying HVLP Vs Airless.. great to have you contributing.. subscribe if you can, and feel free to ask questions anytime.. @PaintHQ
@PaintHQ 2 жыл бұрын
Hey David, that’s so kind of you to say.. regarding XVLP and Helmi, I’ve sprayed it with the very similar Wagner 5000 (separate turbine).. it did take a bit of coaxing and still the finish was a little ‘orange peel’.. not as good as spraying Helmi with airless.. sone tips to help coax Helmi, is to warm the paint.. submerge the XVLP metal paint pot in hot water.. that alone does help.. another thing you can do is add a drop of Floetrol (a paint conditioner).. another version is Benjamin Moore Extender.. along with warming the paint, it does help thicker decorative coatings such as Helmi go through XVLP 👍

Ah thank you kind sir.. these were kindly made for me by someone I know that manufacturers kitchen cabinets.. however you can use any pieces of timber, wooden paint stirrers will work 😀 ..Don’t go too short though, it can be more tricky to configure the doors if the spacing is too short.. just to add extra info, my opinion is to spray doors vertical.. you can get a door stacking system that allows you to spray doors flat and then stack them.. I wouldn’t want to risk the potential for doors to warp, especially after adding moisture via painting 🙈 Hope this helps my friend 💯 regards Pete

Hey Simon, that’s a very good question.. I’ve not yet found a place in trim / woodwork spraying.. still very much a fan of the FFLP tips.. whereas I’ve gave the 616 a runout with AR2.. I find AR2 can be problematic with any tip, it sprays better with a drop of water.. awesome unbeatable product though 💯 .. I also sprayed Little Greene on the panelled wall in my last video, went on nice.. on the whole, I’m glad I’ve got a couple of TriTech tips in my kit.. they work well with the handheld too, gives a nice wide fan when other tips seem to ‘fail’ ..Think my last video using the handheld spraying feature walls shows that 🤔 .. As always, really great to hear from you my friend ..Hope you’re keeping well too 💯👌👍😊

Ah hello my friend in Australia 🇦🇺💙 ..Yes I do find you get the best results out of the topcoat by priming first.. I especially like to use a high build / sanding sealer primer.. the one I’m using here is by AkzoNobel, a waterborne primer.. WP136.. sands / denibs beautifully, before going over with AkzoNobel Aqualit Enamel topcoat 👍 ..I do like to keep to the same ‘system’ with primer / topcoat, ie both from AkzoNobel.. I guess not critical, and like you say if the substrate is pre-primed or previously coated well, it’s not 100% critical to prime again.. I just find in my experience, you get the best result / finish 👍 ..keep in touch brother 🇦🇺💙 ..regards Pete

Dang...looking good! Do you know what would cause craters in the paint finish on my doors? I’m using a graco project painter plus airless sprayer with a 311 tip. I used Krud Cutter gloss off to remove gloss cause I didn’t want to have to sand everything and was told that that was an alternative. Anyhoo, I’m using sherwin Williams ovation paint in semigloss. I changed psi, sprayed continuously without stopping, sprays sprayer for 10 seconds or so to make sure there was no air in line, etc. I also tried respraying after I sanded the craters and same result. I don’t think it’s fish eye, more looks like an orange peel but not as cratery cause there is some smooth surface. I did not thin the paint but starting to wonder if that’s my issue. What do you think could cause this crater problem?
@PaintHQ
@PaintHQ 2 жыл бұрын
Very much appreciate the support my friend.. it does have all the signs of ‘fish eye’ and your material is being contaminated by the Krud Cutter.. your setup sounds spot on, you typically don’t need to thin with airless.. then as long as technique is sound, there isn’t a lot to go wrong.. not like air spray / HVLP.. (too much air for example, you can get orange peel) Is it possible to spray a test on a test piece, to eliminate the door and door prep.. if contamination is the issue, a primer such as BIN would be helpful.. if only small areas need to be fixed, you can get it rattle cans to spot prime.. I do hope this helps my friend.. great to have your input on the channel, let me know how you get on 👌👍😆 ..regards Pete

I'm not a professional painter, but I'm curious about why the tests were sprayed onto a horizontal surface instead of a vertical surface? Also, what exactly are you looking for when testing? Thanks,
@PaintHQ
@PaintHQ Жыл бұрын
Hi Glen, great to hear from you.. it really is great to hear from non-professionals, I will do all I can to help and advise.. it’s actually a very good question you ask.. I lay a piece of brown paper on the floor, rather than stick to a wall, purely for speed and convenience.. I always spray a test in that way before spraying ‘live’.. what I’m looking for is a fine atomisation (a very small droplet).. this is seen at the edges, we call this a feathered edge.. then across the middle of the fan width, I’m looking for an even distribution of paint.. all sounds complicated, it’s actually a simple process 😆 setting up an airless sprayer to spray paint is relatively simple to setup.. like in my video, I start with the pressure potentially lower than where I’ll end up.. spray a test, you’ll probably see ‘tails’.. so not a feathered edge and a broken pattern across the middle.. then up the pressure by about 200 psi and test again.. the tails will start to disappear and the pattern will improve.. repeat until you get a nice fan pattern as described above 😆 ..the Graco FF LP tips really do atomise material very fine and a much lower pressure 💙 Hope this helps, keep in touch my friend.. I hope to hear about your success in future 😆 regards Pete

We recently moved into a rather large home though & it could use a repaint in some of the rooms. @PaintHQ
@PaintHQ 2 жыл бұрын
Hey buddy.. for door frames / architraves (trim), I’d go for a 208 or 210 depending on the viscosity of the material.. most decorative (thicker) paints require a 210 👍 ..A 208 speed will probably be around 3 or 4.. A 210, you’ll probably be around 5... thanks for your question, keep in touch and subscribe if you can.. regards Pete 🎨💯
@PaintHQ
@PaintHQ 2 жыл бұрын
..Just seen your edited reply 😆 ..Go for the 310 ..Just means you’ll have a wider fan than a 210 ..A 312 would be for much thicker materials, thicker than most decorative trim paints.. if you was to use a 312 the paint will fly out.. you would have to move very very quick 🙈

Thanks for watching and your feedback my friend.. You’re right about the door handles.. Like all of us, I evaluate every project - what’s the effective route to completion? Without compromising on finish.. In this instance, the doors were a lightweight mdf composite and in my opinion the carpentry wasn’t the best (new build).. The screw heads were tiny and chewed, I didn’t think the handles would have held up being taken off and screwed back into the mdf.. Then because I was able to unscrew the bezels - with effective masking and a good spray job to coat the area, I knew without doubt the result would be excellent..
