Great video, one question tho i'm a 17 year old guy i started doing landscaping recently but i need more clients i currently have 2 clients, i maintain their garden for them(Cutting grass,taking out leaves) and they are family members but idk whats the best way to approach local people and offer them my services like do i knock on their door? Email them or something ? Help! I'm lost. btw i charge my clients $120 a month($30 a week) to maintain their garden was wondering if i should increase my prices, thx for response

pumping doesnt cut it. i started my landscaping business around same time as this kalas guy. Today i make roughly around 50k a month profit.. 100k in winter as i do snow plowing. When i started 5 years ago i only needed that moment where i took the decision to open my own biz and then next day i did. just like that. getting pumped is fake. Just do it.

Thank you for making a great video. Your story reminds me so much of my current situation being stuck in a job that I absolutely hate. I had a landscaping business with my father for about 10 years and I decided to go a different direction which has not worked for me. For several years I have been wanting to get back into landscaping but I didn't know how to go about doing it. I have tried to talk to banks and credit unions about getting a small business loans so that I can get a truck and equipment but had no luck. Watching you video has inspired me. Thanks again.

LOL Too Funny when you talked about the Black N Decker electric trimmers, thats what I had too do a few months ago .. took my bill money and was sooooo nervous trimming shrubs for the first time at this huge house that had hired me because they were about to have an "open house" to show off their property .. After it was done and I actually didnt screw it up, it was the best feeling.

you sir are an inspiration, 80+90 hours a week, I'm a senior student 18 years of age, and i have always been fascinated with landscaping. Just working outdoors taking care of plants, and making wonderful landscapes. The only thing that scared me was the money, in Australia Landscaper earn a very decent annual salary, but not enough from my point of view if you want to support a wife and family. You have given me hope, i'm going to dive into the landscape industry and take my chances and maybe run my own business. Hopefully, my desire will spark. :) thank you so much again sir

Thank you very much, Yes learn as much as you can about horticulture and botany. Your plant knowledge can be a key factor that sets you apart from 90% of other landscapers. I charge $85 an hour for plant trimming & pruning. No travel time, no machines sucking gas, just pruners and a bucket. Congrats!

Have pretty much the exact same life story growing up with landscaping and I am currently doing my own thing but just on weekends and making some good cash .. Stuck because I currently have a city job with a good pension and it's very hard to leave .. Life decisions ..

Hey Keith, I'm a lot like you. I have been doing this kind of work my whole life, well at least since I was 12. The last 6 years I have been working with computers and going to school and hate it. Well I have changed schools and majors and I am not studying Residential Landscape Design & Construction and going to start my dream of owning and running my own company. Great! There's a great book by Seth God in called "The Dip". It's a long hard dip like the Grand Canyon you must ensure before the payoff. To me nothing compared to the feeling of the first time I made over $1,000 in 1 day. There's were times I wanted to quit and go back to a normal job. But after that first $1,000 day I never looked back. Freedom!

Your business will work out if you find a reason big enough that you'll cancel all other plans for it. A new business is like a baby, it needs to be bottle fed and held very closely or it WILL slip away. You can make it happen.

I like all your videos but this video really hit home I I worked for a company that had a contract with Lowe's and I worked with them for 10 years. I recently just open my own business it's called South Texas flooring installations LLC, obviously I made it an LLC I got a million-dollar insurance policy all the proper paper works at the courthouse and I've been so nervous about everything it's been having me up at night but some kind of animal Instinct in me says this is the right move. so what I did was install floors and they would they would pay me by the square foot so at the end of the year I got 1099. so I wasn't considered one of their employees what I came up with is just because I wear the lows shirt didn't mean I had the contract with them I was working under this little mama papa store they paid me by the square foot so I was able to make $80,000 a year but when I have all the overhead and I see what I'm paying my helper and what I'm paying on gas and how hard I had to work to make my cut the 80,000 and how much more money I made them and doing it for 10 years I just felt like I have no retirement and everyday that I do jobs for this man I'm stacking up more bricks on to his castle and when I turn around and look at what I have my yard is bear sometimes the bills got paid a week late because I'm struggling just to get by in life. I would see other installers come and go but because it paid the bills I was content. well they recently told me they were going to start taking 5% of my earnings to help with the administration for you his company's got bigger and has like 5 secretaries and they're going to start charging me to pay that cut and I just felt like that was crossing the line so I jump ship I'm watching your videos and they help me get to the next day and I'm hoping for a good outcome I mean I am a True Perfectionist at this job backsplashes, showers, wood floor, marble granite, staircases, excetera I've been doing it for 10 years, it's my truck and my tools, I was subcontracted. it's been about 3 weeks since I did my last job for them and I heard that his boss who runs the contracts with Lowe's found out that I'm making my own entity and is going to give me a contract to work directly with Lowe's. I get super excited thinking about how different my life could be if I can double my salary by cutting them out and then I get even more excited when I think about bringing in other people that are good at the job and paying them right and how big this company can get. I don't ever want to depend just on one person for this business is work I want to get out there so I'm going to take your advice from the other video about getting a logo made and I think that's a sharp name that I have already and I'm definitely going to keep the LLC at the end of the name cuz I think that looks super legit I just wanted to let you know that your stuff is helping people out way more than you probably imagine thank you sir

Being an owner of a landscape company, and starting basically in the same the same way, from the ground up, (though I never never used craigslist), I completely disagree with many of your statements. I did side work from 2005-2009, then in 2009 my company was Incorporated. So we are in our 6th year of 'Fulltime'. We have 2-4 employees spring/summer/fall and about 8 over winter season and in 2014 we did about $350,000 in sales. I still have not replaced my income that I was making before I started my landscape company and work twice as much. Running a landscape company is not easy like you try to make people believe. Also, many of my key employees make as much or more than me currently and have paid holidays, vacation and retirement accounts (which I personally do not have). I often go to lunch with other landscape company owners. Some of these guys own landscape company's that do over 2 million in sales a year. Often in our conversations we talk about how much our company's do in sales, and how little we as owners make and how we would be better off being an employee for a landscape company so we would make more and not have to deal with all the headache. I think your video is extremely misleading. The landscape industry is a terrible industry when you compare it to other industries. Low billing rates, high over head.

Im goin hard bro workin for a landscaping company and working after work and weeends for my self you and geak freak are awesome. something from my own life that I haven't seen you talk about but no about from people I know is maybe you work supper hard making 100000 a year or more livin the life buyin houses and stuff and rollin everything back in, but rainy days are going to hit maybe Ill be 50 but you got a save big time im more just talking for my self so I don't forget I don't know what you do I watch dave ramsey check him out to bro I think certain people on youtube KZfaq and changing peoples lives the interent is crazy man I think networking on youtube can make tons of money in a positive way keep the vids comin god bless
