I've been journalling since December of 2019 and after keeping and filling up over 10 journals this year I have some thoughts! Today I'll be demystifying the whole process of how to start a journal but showing you my journal and the simple daily system I pair with it! Also, I'll be going over a couple journalling tips and tricks I wish I knew when I first started so you can learn from my mistakes. So sit down, grab a cup of tea and let's get our journals ready for 2021!

WHAT'S THE TEA?!
Well, I'm glad you asked! I love almost all types of tea and I am always happy to share my favourites!
In this video I'm drinking some Irish breakfast tea (Barry's tea Gold Blend) but you can also catch me drinking rooibos tea, white tea (I love a good oolong) and black tea (unless its after 4pm). I love purchasing my tea from a local Toronto tea supplier called Sloane's Tea (sloanetea.com).

I kinda combine that with a junk journal. I don’t plan what goes on that page but if I do something and have like a ticket or a wrapper I’ll just put them in. I don’t care about them but it’s a nice thing to look back on to remember what happened.

THIS is what journaling should be about: writing ✍🏽 for mental clarity, writing thoughts 💭, nowadays, journaling is more about creativity and who has the best spreads and layouts, it’s tiresome, and there’s a pressure that goes into it so most of us give up. For 2022, I’m making my journal and bullet journal work for me and not the other way around! Thank you Kaitlin! New subbie! Blessings 🤩

Also Ryder Carroll, the creator of the bullet journal system, never created it to be what it has turned into. The aesthetic artsy things are gorgeous but not what the system was created for. It’s actually meant to be very simple, more freeing than stressing and very customized.

I love that you're using a smaller-than-your-average-sized journal! Friends of mine who journal have had a hard time being consistent with their writing because they feel that they never have enough to put down. That empty space left on a page can be intimidating. Never thought about going pocket-size. Will definitely be experimenting with this size of Moleskine and will hopefully get my fellow journal friends on board as well!
@KaitlinGrey

I had that same issue for such a long time until I started the morning pages routine and realized three pages of a half letter notebook would be overkill for me! I find pocket size is perfect, it takes me about 10-15 minutes to fill out so it’s super realistic even for busy mornings!

As a person who loves graphology and is learning it, I like how you mentioned the “perfect handwriting” bit, people don’t know that handwriting is unique to each individual and that this idea of perfect handwriting is a myth, infact those with “perfect handwriting” are actually so stressed with perfectionism which results in them trying to suppress their feelings and personality when they are writing on the page which is not at all good for that persons mental health.

hey everyone! here's my advice/experience/ routine from a night journaler: I have 3 journals I write in every night #1 my five-year q&a a day journal #2 my gratitude journal where I list 10 things I'm grateful for that day #3 my doodle planner (which is like a pre-made bullet journal), where I have a habit and mood tracker. On the calendar page, I write the thing that was most memorable that day, and then on the weekly planning pages, I write brief a summary of the day. I developed this routine because I really love writing in-depth about things that happen from day to day in my full-on writing journal, but I don't always have time to dedicate full entries to each day, so these all help me keep track of my memories from each day!
