Holly got me started, in the last 18 months Ive lost over 100lbs so far and Im not done. When I started I couldn't even run 1/10th of a mile without walking. Now I average 4 miles a day and Ive run a half marathon. Trust TRE, they are amazing.

I’ve literally been crying for an hour. Feeling lonely and depressed, wishing I could loose the weight I’ve gained. I’m only 30 and every time I try to go to the gym something happens and knocks me off track. Last time I tried running I injured my knee and kept me from going to the gym almost a month. 😢 but I open my feed tonight and finally a video to help me overcome this. Thanks so much. People don’t understand how hard it can be to get your life back after becoming overweight.

That sounds like such a difficult journey, and major props to you for continuing to try. Hopefully there's a running or fitness community around you who can be supportive as you're getting back into it, because we all do better with a group who's there to motivate us and cheer us on! Local facebook groups or running stores are a great place to look for running groups of all fitness levels. You can do this! 💪

One of the biggest struggles of someone who has been fit and healthy and now is obese- is finding a gentle way to begin again without feeling like giving up even before the first time. When you’re obese- you literally feel like you’re trapped in someone else’s body bc in your mind you still remember being able to be active. I’m going to memorize this video.

My height is 5'4 I use to weigh 240!!!.... intermittent fasting for like a month and a half and I did three and a half days of water fasting afterwards and it literally put me at 215 lbs. And because of that I'm able to work out better because 25 lb of heaviness is no longer there. And no I did not go to the gym the most I did was walk and do the elliptical that's it.. once or twice a week. Be encouraged my goal is to get to 175 and I literally did not hire a trainer ..nor do I pressure myself ...I just fast!! If you don't eat right working out really want help you. DISCIPLINE YOUR APPETITE & FAST AND PRAY. .. NOOOOW I'M WORKING OUT 3 TO 5 DAYS A WEEK.. STILL INTERMITTENT FASTING DAILY ..I water faster biweekly. The best exercise to prepare for running is the leg press. If you're struggling, your leg muscles are weak. Do a leg workout program with weights, primarily the leg press, for 6-8 weeks before starting running. Lift heavy 6-8 reps, 4 sets. You're going to build strength, put down new vascularity, and burn out intramuscular fat, all of which are game changers for running. Good luck!

After a long horrible marriage and painful divorce I topped out at 232 lbs. The stress of trying to make myself comfortable with this weight was killing me. I am an athlete. I run 5-10ks for fun. I played bball, tennis, and ran track. I was used to a body that functioned well, and looked great. At 232 walking was painful. I'm 5'5 with a small bone structure. Although I fell off of my athletic lifestyle, my MENTALITY about fitness NEVER CHANGED. I knew self discipline, diet, training, mental state is EVERYTHING! FOOD AND FITNESS ARE A PORTION OF IT. Getting rid of, GRADUALLY, bad habits will start you on your journey. Fitness requires constant movement. People think you workoit great 6 months and you good. No! Fitness should be part of yourlifestyle ! Currently I tore my shoulder. I still train because it is my HABIT. CREATE NEW HABITS. it starts in the mind. Oh! I also have clinical depression. my weight management is highly difficult. Consistency in working out is difficult. but my mind is geared to move because it's good for me. Get ahead of the negative voices and get moving. Be consistent. You will see results!

Michelle Bruce - I'm an experienced runner, and these two stretches work well: 1. when watching TV or listening to music, sit in a cross legged position on a cushion with a straight back - if you find any tension in your legs or hips, straighten out your legs, rest for a minute or 2, then back into cross legs. It might take a few weeks before you can sit cross legged for say 15 minutes ( at least - excellent for lower back, knees, ankles, and hips ). 2. Asian Squat - practice the beginners squat in the above video, then when you feel confident go into a complete squat with feet flat and slightly wider than hip width apart. Initially, you could use 2 books of equal size, 1 under each heel ( or 2 blocks of wood ) in the early stages as you are becoming more flexible ( this has a similar effect as the crosslegged position, ie, excellent for lower back, hips, knees and ankles. PS: for long term injury prevention in running, you can't beat these 2 basic static stretches. They are particularly useful in compensating for western societies penchant for sitting on unhealthy chairs.....Cheers.

This happened to me years ago. I had already been running for about two years. Just leisurely walking on the beach one evening it happened. I couldn’t run after that without an unbearable itch. I joked about being allergic to exercise but it was my main form of stress relief. I started taking antihistamines and problem solved. Later a dr confirmed exercise induced pruritis(itching). No kidding, I remember thinking. There are natural antihistamines that work for some and should be tried before reaching for over the counter remedies.

I don't think getting heart rate high is such a good idea. You really want to be in Z1 or Z2 for most benefits that are relevant for an overweight person. Which is a conversational pace -- you should be able to talk in full sentences. If you cross above first aerobic threshold (into Z3) what you are getting is your body starts burning more sugars, it starts accumulating lactate which is going to reduce the length of the exercise, will require more recovery (meaning you can't do it every day) and it will also cause more pain and suffering which may reduce participation. My suggestion is to first get comfortable walking long distances. Only once you are comfortable walking for over an hour at a time you should start increasing pace but still you should be at a comfortable conversational pace. Step three is to try to add more than one walk a day, take a morning walk and maybe another walk after your main meal -- it will also help reduce glycemic index of your main meal and help with insulin insensitivity. When you can do two 1h sessions of brisk pace walking, start *converting* some of that walking distance into running. So if you decide to run 2 miles in the morning, remove similar distance from your walk. Why so much walking before you start running? I observed people who never exercised are much more likely to stick to walking and continue walking every day and build a habit of going outside and spending time on exercise. Walking also allows you to build the volume much faster and with much less possibility for injury. For many people it would take years to get to run 10 miles every day but they can get to walking 10 miles a day within a month or two. Another important note is that consistency beats how hard you train. It is so much more important that you can do the exercise every day and build a habit than being able to do a hard training session but not doing it regularly.

This plan is for inactive people, not necessarily overweight! Not every thin person is physically active or fit and I can imagine a lot of overweight folks who wouldn’t make much out of such a basic plan. Weight and fitness should be addressed separately.

I'm an 90 pound overweight active person and I can go straight to running but I catch myself having problems with me knees. I think when you're overweight even if you've been active you have to remember your knees have all that extra weight to deal with. I ended up here cause of that reason. I understand where you are coming from but I don't see a problem with saying how to start running when you're overweight.
