Great, great, great video! I bought rings a few weeks ago to start doing Pec flys, but I haven't been practicing them too much, as they are hard. I've been looking at my rings for the past few days, wondering about how useful of a purchase it had been. Now I got some useful beginner goals to achieve and a great guide for progression. I'll definitely start to incorporate these exercises in my workouts! Thank you! By the way: great channel, love the videos where you share your experience as a traveller and life as a youtuber.

Got some 1" x 9' long NRS heavy duty tie down straps and rings some years ago. One of the best investments I ever made for strength training. I only very recently got back into using them and am going all the way this time, with regular workouts. Already after several weeks, I went from barely being able to get into the support position at all to doing ring dips with close to full ROM and can hold the support position for at least 25 seconds. The NRS straps are very, very solid and are extremely quick and easy to adjust. Much easier than the straps that came with my rings with the larger buckles. The NRS straps are rated for lashing up to 1,500 pounds so I don't have any concerns about durability. Rings are mentally stimulating and rewarding, which goes even further beyond the strength gains. As your body adapts and can do more and more complex movements, it proves to be really rewarding and satisfying and encourages you to keep going. Same reason I prefer shadowboxing for my cardio workout: I'm practicing old skills and building new skills as I get a workout. The workout at times almost feels like a byproduct of learning a new skill, and at that point it feels more like fun than working out and it can be hard to stop. More and more of my spare time is spent messing around on the rings or doing calisthenics on the floor, simply trying to find if I can move my body in new ways due to increases in strength. So my baseline activity level has also gone up just for the enjoyment of it. The rewards we get from ring training are tremendous. So finally, thanks for sharing this video and all the tips you provided. Very helpful and also very motivating for someone who's just getting back into ring training and is excited to train my body and grow stronger.

Thank you so much for this informative and well-produced video. I recently bought a pair of rings and was discouraged because they were so hard to use. But when I saw that you, too had struggled with them at first, I was encouraged to continue. I find that I make slow, but steady progress. I was particularly inspired by what you said at the end: _The hardest thing to do is the first step. But once you get on the path, you'll never look back._ Q: You say that rings work the whole body. I simply hang of the rings and focus entirely on my breathing. Your body will naturally start seeing what its capable of. Your breath is really where your strength is, I find that as I focus on my breath it becomes deeper and I find more strength and control over my body, naturally holding more difficult positions and the main advantage I find is that when you focus on your breath you don't over exert yourself, I actually feel stronger towards the end of my session and don't feel sore the next day even though I trained for like an hour. I find that this is a much better approach than pushing for reps or forcing yourself into positions your not really ready for.

Started off my calisthenics journey late last year by watching your introduction video, after finally losing the weight I wanted to get rid of with cardio. I started with all the basic stuff, push-ups etc. 20 reps, then 40 reps, then 60 reps. I then followed your follow-up video. Yesterday I held a back lever for 10 seconds, several handstands for 10 seconds and L-sits are going good as well. Starting from this week I'll gradually start to work towards the human flag. Might try and go for the front lever as well at some point. Odds are I'll replace the basic excersises with ring variants sometime soon to keep improving. I'll let you know after the summer how I've progressed, haha. Wish me luck! Lastly I'd like to thank you, very much. As you've been of great help and I very much appreciate all your videos. Quite proud how far I've come even though it can be intimidating considering I'm 190cm tall. But you got me there! Keep it up pal! :)

@@sreekanthpillai7778 I have incorporated ring excersises and have been able to hold the back lever for somewhere inbetween 15-20 seconds. Haven't progressed too much because of an arm injury I sustained a month 2 or after the comment. Wasn't from the excersises btw. Never had trouble because of them. So yeah, had to get back to my old level again. Back lever is solid again. Might re-try the human flag sometime this year now that my strength is back. All in all, his videos helped a lot and I reckon I would have progressed pretty far had I not gotten injured. My ring excersises were from several other videos as well though. Archer pushups in rings, assisted one arm pull-ups, L-Sits and that kinda stuff.

Very helpful video man. Thanks. Just got my set of rings and I can't wait to get started. I've been doing pull ups for a while so hopefully I get the stability part sorted.

Grip diameter?
@fabiocamporesi3550
@fabiocamporesi3550 3 жыл бұрын
I'd get wooden rings because they help you grip them better, absorbing sweat etc. As per the thickness/grip diameter, they mainly come in two measurements: 28 mm and 32 mm. I believe 28 is the official measurement, but most gymnasts are short and have smaller hands. I am 190 cm tall (6'3") and have big hands, so I went for 32 mm and they are super comfortable!

@hornsteinhof7592
@hornsteinhof7592 4 жыл бұрын
I'm no expert with ring training. But you can do lunges and put you feet in one of the rings or do one leg squads and support yourself a little with the rings (sorry, no native speaker)

@@hornsteinhof7592 I see. Yes I do one legged squats and the rings would help get a few extra reps in. Thank you. Your English is perfect by the way.

Been there bro haha. I think there are tons of variations with rings though that can build up. I am alright with pushups ((20 decent ones) but can't do a pull up to save my life.
