Went to a party the other day for new with a complete bunch of strangers and loved it, got compliments, people liked talking to me, people listened to me...I hung out with two girls a week or so after (Friends) and...old me, quiet, not shy necessarily but just lacking things to say, I felt like I needed validation from them which I didn't give a damn about at the party or anywhere else honestly, but these two friends just sent me right back to my insecure 16 year old school days. A video on how to deal with this wouldn't be unappreciated honestly.

I had the toughest issue at work. When dealing with old friends, I did feel different and weird. But not only that I also expected them to be the same and they turned out to be fake jealous of my success and extremely backstabbing. Opening up to them in the present is way different than it was in the past and that's a huge lesson I've gained.

@aricmajere1720

I think it would be the tone that would convey the hate. If you sound incredulous and look at the person as if they're crazy. Maybe add a dash of contempt to really bring it around to you meaning, "You could never really do that because I can not imagine somebody making a decision to be that uncomfortable or inconvenienced to bring about a small amount of change." Not too much contempt, though; or it won't be passive aggressive anymore. What they forget is, the incremental changes can be cumulative as long as you continue. Encouragement is more helpful to affecting the effect of change. They are stopping you from metamorphosing into the beautiful butterfly that will emerge.

I haven't had anyone say the exact phrase to me, but I am prepared to say "He who says he can and he who says he can't are both usually right." It seems like something that would force them to really reflect in a way that is minimally "offensive".

BigAssMuffin -My thought as well. Saying "I could never do that" is an inside out compliment. It's inferring that you are impressed with that person's strength and self mastery, because "I could never do such a difficult task".

The worst is when you genuinely tried to be nice and still got treated with so much hate and anger. When you really wanted to be positive and someone comes and tears down everything just like that. Without knowing why or maybe even knowing it's not really about you. The second you treat me poorly, it IS about me. And I can't get over something when I just can't wrap my head around what it is that made you behave like that towards me.

From my personal experience, ignoring them is your weapon against them it’s a powerful one cus remember haters want to see a reaction that’s what they’re aiming for, they get off on that, for them it’s like consuming another drug when you ignore them they get really angry they burn because they realized what they said had no affect on you, that you don’t care about them, their thoughts, their existence. They’re already triggered when they see you, hear your name, etc you don’t have to do anything they just get triggered so that’s why they do the things they do, they’re just unhappy people

Sometimes it just feels like the whole world is hating everyone but simply ignoring negative things made me realize that what you focus on is what you believe. Now, I don’t think about this all the time, but there are many days where I just feel so attacked. like on so many social media pages such as this. Which is common. I just received a load of backlash a few minutes ago for a comment, so I searched for some tips on how to deal with them in a respectable manner. And honestly it’s already making me feel better about myself. About my decisions. And I’m learning to ignore and move on more frequently, as I find it difficult to communicate my feelings openly in the face of insults, and I’m general I’m just a very sensitive person. Which is why I respond trying to tell them to calm down. News flash, if you don’t have any ground breaking discoveries to slap in their face going along with “calm down”, it doesn’t solve the issue and only makes them angrier. So, I really appreciate this video. Thank you for making me get into more of these habits. Being so sensitive really has its downsides, but ignoring, laughing things off and taking compliments as genuine has made me a more confident person in general. Again, thanks, and I apologize for the long comment.

One thing you need to remember: keep doing what you are doing that is generating this kind of hate and don't stop. Eventually you will get results, and that is the surest way to shut up the haters. A guy I knew kept giving me shit for going to the gym and working out. Why? Because he was not doing that himself, so he wanted to break me down to his level while I was building myself back up. He kept saying behind my back, "he's not jacked or anything." And stuff like that. Ironically, a friend took a pic of me with my shit off and posted it to Instagram, and for weeks I had dozens of people complement my gains. The other guy never hated again. Get results if you know you are lifting yourself up.

If someone is doing something I could never do, I'll tell them, not out of hate but out of admiration -- I give them the explanation as well. I'm surprised you didn't cover any grounds on non-constructive, personal insults. That's where most folks fail at. I've only seen two KZfaqrs who legitimately knew how to shut those down.

what about when a coach or figure who is higher than you(like a boss etc), that you have to listen too is passive aggressive? how do you deal with that?
@BASEDinMaine
@BASEDinMaine 7 жыл бұрын
I think you have to claim your boundaries (respectfully, don't lower yourself to their level) and be prepared to lose your job or position if it goes wrong. Start looking for back up options and keep your head low in the mean time. Usually those kind of people exist within power structures that might have a way to deal with that (Human Resources, or administrative officials in schools). You may need to speak with someone of higher authority and ask for advice on your plan to confront the problem person.
@BASEDinMaine
@BASEDinMaine 7 жыл бұрын
I remember a success mentor recommending that you just calmly comment on the covert behavior (passive aggression for example or trying to shame someone as another). "Oh, that's interesting, are you being passive aggressive?" said with as neutral and curious a tone as you can manage. Prepare for friction. Check out the book Crucial Conversations, too! I haven't finished it yet but the advice is mindblowing and all about dealing with difficult but crucial conversations like the one in your question.

_I couldn't do that._ _It's not easy, but I can_ Especially with passive aggressive people, you're right that you should try to act as if they meant it. If you stay long enough friendly, some people give up and maybe even become genuinely friendly to you too. The worst thing you can do is to defend yourself aggressively and always have the last word. It would just escalate things or keep the fight going longer than it would, if you just ignored it. Staying friendly on a professional level has the advantage, that your critics may later come at you when they need help. That's the point were most give up their negativity. On the other hand it doesn't mean that you do everything for those that treat you like scum.

I think you provide a very well explained tips on dealing with haters. We have to understand that, many times, haters aren't hating us because there is something about us that they are compelled to dislike. Many times, they hate because of something missing in their own lives that we either have or are working to attain. Sometimes you can actually turn a hater into an ally by simply being willing to encourage them in their pursuits. Once a hater said to me: "You'll never be able to start a company. You're too young, it's expensive, and you won't make money." My sincere reply: "Starting a company is a challenge, it might be the hardest thing I've ever done. But I think of it the same way you approach doing music. It's challenging in many ways but you're doing your passion and meeting the desires for those who love great music. I think if anyone can overcome the challenges and reach success, you can. That's how I also feel about starting this company." Since that day, we have worked together many times and are great friends. Always be tuned in to know when to respond to hate with positivity. :)

I really enjoy the content on this channel, how it's always about action and practical application of this psychology and being confident, and not just ":) just be yourself!" (which is such a horribly shallow and useless advice tbh), but real things. Real interactions, real situations.

No. 5 used the be the story of my life with my family. They were so invested in their hostility towards me that it got really bad. After spending years trying to explain how hurtful their statements and actions were to me, I had to walk away. Once that was done our relationship improved--even if it required me to limit the amount of time I spend with them.

Daten Raten I, too, prefer the non animated illustration videos; I actually liked watching *him* because he was so expressive and I felt like his messages just got across better. The pace at witch illustrations switched from one to another has slowed down a little, which makes them easier to watch, but they're still switching to fast for me --- and I don't feel them as "genuine". I know it's a subjective appreciation and I'm not trying to demean the artist's work in any way --- I just like the previous style of videos better :)

I like both styles,; I'm used to watching videos with animation like those from theodd1sout or Extra Credits, but his own talking directly at the camera style does convey body language and facial expressions that allow the audience to connect more intimately. If I remember correctly, the reason he has any animators at all is because of his location and how it's difficult to record good quality videos of himself. That said, voicing your opinion that it would be better if he did facecams even with a "low quality" setup surely cannot do any harm. Cheers!

Hey Charlie, really loving the new content. I, and all the other self-improvers here are absolutely loving it and would like to thank you and the team. I have a personal note for the animator, just as some constructive criticism to help make you're content even more affective too the audience; and that is too have less animation cards, there is some super strong images beeping put across in the animation but they only get a second to play, sometimes it's better to let the message sink in. Thanks a lot and keep doing what you're doing :) -Luther

Great vid, amazing stuff seriously. I´ve been in KZfaq a few months, enough to see that there are many fucked up people on the internet (more than in real life honestly) they hide anonimously behind the screens and vomit their shit on others, when I read their comments below my videos I just feel sorry for them, cause somebody cannot be living a happy life when saying those things, so I don´t delete their comment and reply with sacarm + politeness , but my conclusion is some people are really fucked up haha

this is a nice little video. I have used a couple of these things kind of instinctively in the past and they seem to be pretty effective. To someone having a bad day and trying to bring you down, these responses would be frustratingly positive and effective at taking the steam out of them.

There are fine difference between haters and decent critics who made feedback. Haters are just frustrated guys who failed to get attention and wanted to be love. Later on, they resorted to anger and frustration. Beliefs don't matter. People do.

Hey dude! Bit of constructive criticism here. I think switching to animations is a great idea with your current goals. The only thing is, now that you have, we've lost a bit of connection that we used to get through your facial expressions. You may need to slow down your speaking slightly to compensate for it. Other than that, keep doing what you're doing. Love your content!

The "I could never do this" rebuttal sounds pretty unnecessary and makes you look super defensive and confrontational as if you're wishing to be hated upon. Just say thanks, because it is mostly meant as a compliment or at the very least can be understood as one. The biggest tip to dealing with "haters" is that very very few people are actually hating. It's often well meant and often you aren't even criticised. Reacting then with some of the above tactics just makes you look super insecure and egocentric. When you are dealing with genuine negativety then these tactics are great.

Guh, this drives me NUTS, this 21st-century equating of "criticism" with "hating" - as if the only reason somebody would ever criticize anything you say or do is because they're caught in the grip of a deep pathological hatred of YOU, personally. So what's your advice? Completely ignore all criticism of what you do - or if you aren't going to ignore it, then at least justify everything you do by insisting that doing it makes you FEEL GOOD ... as if that weren't the bubble-justification mechanism of every psychotic who's ever lived. How about a video on DEALING with criticism (and maybe, Gawd forbid, LEARNING from it), rather than one insisting that everything you decide to do is perfect and the only people who don't think so HATE you? Yeesh.

Those people aren't adults. There's a difference between criticism and hating. Criticism is not done with the intent to harm the other person. Hating is done solely to make the person feel worse.
