How to step record in Ableton Live 11 (Berlin School)

This is a quick demonstration of how to use a midi keyboard or Push with Ableton Live to perform step entry for your clips. This video showcases 'Berlin School"-inspired musical style which is easy and fun!
This technique also work with Ableton Live 10 (and possibly earlier.)

I have not seen a way to do it like you wish, but you could just record in realtime and turn on auto quantization to fix your timing glitches. :)

Nice video! What scale you use? c phrygian scale?

That particular scale/mode was mixolydian with a diminished (flat) 6th. It’s not one of the standard Ableton scales but one I added custom.

What is the midi pad you're using?

That is an Ableton Push 2, but I often use a Launchpad Pro Mk3 instead - it depends on whether or not I'm focused on hardware or software. I like any grid controller that has a scale-based note view. :)
