I'll be 80 this year. After dealing with my mother's home when she passed I swore I wouldn't inflict the same on my children. Mom was a typical American consumer who acquired way more stuff than was necessary. (How many pairs of shoes with matching handbags does one woman need!?!) Not only have I done my kids a favor, but I've also made my own life easier by eliminating anything that wasn't useful or meaningful.

I realized I've been beating myself up for the times I don't make it to doing 'above and beyond'', but I feel like I can breathe now and dare I say even feel proud that the basics are done every day even if I feel lousy? I don’t have problem with tea towels because. I hang them on hooks by the loop/label that’s usually on them. If not, I snap a cafe curtain ring on them and hang them on the hooks with the others. They live on my door to garage, which isn’t too far to manage. Now, I DO have a messy linen closet problem. I am a butterfly 🦋 so I took the door off it long ago and have a curtain tied back instead. I am now trying to half neatly stuff the bottom sheet in a pillow case so it is all together…and so they don’t fall off the shelves. I don’t even use top sheets so those are folded on top shelf and available to use as curtains, tablecloths, etc. Thanks for the “don’t fold them anymore” hint. 👍👍

Yes, I am an “all or nothing” person. Perfectionist. I have been working on myself for years. When I go to clean a room, I want to it too top to bottom. I have made myself just do the perimeter and surfaces around stuff. Once I got all the rooms decluttered and in order, I have no problem keeping it that way now. But it used to be messy everywhere. I used to start over writing a post it note at work if I made a mistake. Now I just scratch through the mistake and keep writing. That was very hard to do but now it is easy. Decluttering my house was key so I thank you CAS because you are the one who started me on that journey. ❤

Thank you, Cas, for this post. I needed to hear that. I spent all of 2022 recovering from near death. Most of 2023 overcompensating for 2022 until I got sick again. I am on the OCD side of perfectionism. My mother believed being in 2nd place was no more than the first loser. I have been striving for perfection ever since. Yet, everything I've ever learned has come to me from a mistake I've made. As 2024 rolled in I gave up. Tomorrow, in 15-minute intervals, I am taking the garbage bag around the house and tossing stuff. I've had a memory bin for years that will be coming with me. Please keep this kind of content coming--you are a great cheerleader!

I purchased a pot rack for my cupboard and I feel a lot stressed knowing I can pull out a pot or pan and not have an avalanche falling out of cupboard. Sometimes my dishes are still a little wet when I put them in the cupboard.

Cas, you are so amazing, you have such a talent speaking so concise, to the point and at the same time so warm and funny!!! Very few can also be warm and funny while being a ‘to the point’ concise speaker. You are seriously better than majority of therapists. Thank you for repeating this message and understanding a lot of us, especially me, need to hear it 1000x’s to get it through. ❤

Found you and The Minimal Mom last week and you two lit a fire under me for decluttering! Learning how to break down the decluttering process into manageable tasks made all the difference. I have tackled some major problem areas and have purged like never before. It is so liberating! Thank you Thank you Thank you for showing me the way!

Thanks for this video exhausted after work and the whole house needs hoovering and floors washed and was thinking i shouldn't use the cordless hoover cos it doesn't hoover as well as my corded one so procrastinating even starting this video gave me permission to just do a quick hoover better half done than not.

Thank you so much for this excellent video. I have recently discovered you (I think it was through my Facebook feed which is why I love FB so much) and the few videos I've watched have helped me immensely. I never used to have clutter this bad before 2020. That's the year everything crashed in my life, including my health. My health is good now I'm happy to say, due to having a much needed operation in 2021. Now I need to organize/clear 42 years of accumulated clutter. I enjoyed this video so much as it describes me perfectly.

“15 minutes at a time” with a timer. “Expectations set too high” for yourself and family, this is real and we won’t even start with the resentment. Omg have you been in my house??? 😂 Lowering the expectations with 3 non negotiable things to do. Thanks for giving us permission to not be perfect. Have a great week. Mary, Joes wife 🙇‍♀️👏💪👍💐🙏

I really needed to see this video and hear these words!! I’ve struggled a LOT for the past couple of years with organizing. Attempted to reorganize 3 closets, all at once. I ended up putting all the things that didn’t belong in the closets, into a bedroom and now having trouble clearing out that room.

I think this is your best video :-D yesss, -whatever you said in here, yes, yes and yes!!!! It is now obviously clear that because I can't do everything as I want, I just leave it, especially with my ADHD. Soooo many golden nuggets here: "what can leave to make room for that item that you actually use" "make it good for now and you can make it perfect later" and many more. Thank you for doing what you do!!!!!!

Wow, this is SOOOO what I needed to hear! Yup, perfectionist here, and I truly wish I was brave enough to send in a submission. It's been years since I gave up scrapbooking (because I could never make each page good enough!), but I want to keep the memories. My scrapbooking room is a disaster, and someday I'll tackle it. Way too overwhelming, even after years of it being in that condition. For my other areas in the house that aren't so bad, I love the "memory bin" idea. Great video!

Love this video!!! I think, I have to listen to it multiple times to get it in my head!!!!!!!!!😉 This perfectionism is the worst! I am always paralized, because I see something I wanna do, then see the next thing I have to do before I can start the first thing and it goes on and on and on .... At the end there's nothing done!🤯 I have to train myself! Thank you Cass for being here for us!❤❤❤❤❤❤
