Looks very similar to what I need to do. I have a end Terrence house and the same is happening as the walk way at the side has been built up over the years and is over the damp course. Great video. Thank you.

Spot on my friend. I have a concrete sectional garage with internal cement fillet seals totally useless. Why do the manufactures instruct this procedure ? As you demonstrated I cleaned the outside of the bottom edge then painted a flat roof repair / sealant around the base. now no dampness :) Great that you are giving advice to solve problems.
@everlastbuilders2 жыл бұрын
Glad it helped mate
@Username890392 жыл бұрын
Nice one. Adding a cement filet on top of that blackjack would protect it to last a bit longer, otherwise blackjack by itself could get damaged/worn over time. Or you could always also another coat on if that happened I guess.
@everlastbuilders7 ай бұрын
Yes second coat wouldn’t do any harm. Thanks for your comment

Mate, I’ve been bitchin, wineing and moaning about the garage roof replacement company that installed the garage roof a year or so ago, turns out it’s not up top. As your quick guide says, it’s water ingress along the side of the garage where the earth is high up running into and through the single skin brickwork. Tommozer, I’m going to Wickes and getting me some blackjack, bit of digging and BOOM that’ll be job done. Thanks and Thanks again, you hit the mark, no fannying around. Just say it how it is………We’ll done boys

Thanks for the video mate. I have a similar problem in my garage the water tracks in from above the exposed slab on the outside. The gap between my garage and the neighbour's is only about six inches so I can't get to paint on the BlackJack. Thinking of pouring tanking slurry down the gap to raise the level above the slab, any thoughts?
@everlastbuilders2 жыл бұрын
Hi Andy. Sounds like a right pain! Sounds like the garages should have been joined rather than a 6inch gap. You may have to do some tanking on the inside of your garage rather than the outside. Good luck mate

@@everlastbuilders Hey guys, I have a single skin shed where the outside level (public path) is higher than the dampcourse level on it due to the council pouring asphalt down. How would you combat this? Use blackjack internally? Cheers!
@MatLampitt2 жыл бұрын
Hi mate. I have the exact same problem. How dry does the existing mortar have to be before you put the stuff on.? Don’t suppose you know if it’s still working sound?

hello mate. Im sure most of the dpm paints can be applied to damp conditions. just check the tin when you Buy. Yes mate it worked out ok for me. Good luck

got the same problem with my garage and was looking at doing the same thing can you put a layer of cement on top of the dpm?
@markp82952 жыл бұрын
If you bridge the DPM, you allow moisture up so it is always avoided to prevent damp walls. Was that what you were referring to?
@andrewmilne17383 жыл бұрын
Hi there what is a good idea to damp proof the garage concrete floor
@everlastbuilders3 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew sorry for late reply. I suppose it depends how damp the floor gets. Any sort of black bitumen paint will do or if it’s not to bad. Maybe use a heavy duty garage floor paint as you will have more options of colours, hope that helps

What would you suggest if you can't access the bottom of the exterior wall? Is there a way to damp proof from the inside?
@everlastbuilders2 жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for wAtching, yes it is so able from the inside. You will be best of using a tanking slurry. Which you paint on. Good luck!

Ye thats my problem letme know if you fiind a cheap solution thankss.

bitumen paint would be the cheapest way. Won’t look to pretty tho.

Drill holes approx 50mm apart and inject this stuff that spreads 25 mm radius thus forming a vapour barrier. I don’t recall exactly the dimensions but that is the principal

Do all single brick garages leak in water or is it that this one was built poorly. My garage is single brick and hasn’t leak at all yet
@everlastbuilders Жыл бұрын
Hi Charlie. Thanks for the comment. Bricks are porous and soak in water. So most single brick skin garages could potentially get damp issues on the inside.

Hi. Thanks for the brilliant video. I was just wandering ....... we had a builder come in and damp proofed our little cellar with this. He left lots of marks on the wooden skirting boards. I was wandering how do you take the damp proof of or remove it from a wooden skirting board? Methylated spirit didn’t work. Thank you in advance.
@everlastbuilders3 жыл бұрын
Hello. Thank you. Oh dear surprised he wouldn’t have removed skirting before painting? But I know it’s not easy to remove. Best way will probably be with a scraper or sharp chisel to get the worst of, then maybe try white spirt or a solvent cleaner to get the last little bits. Hope that helps
@jasonsmall96333 жыл бұрын
@@everlastbuilders thank you so much for your wise words. Scraper? Havnt tried that yet. White spirit didn’t work. But thank you again. All the best and good luck with your wonderful channel. J

Blackjack is not good below ground, the water pressure pushes it off the wall surface. Try Sika1 with plastering sand and cement, needs 2 or 3 thin layers. Expensive and lot of work but if it's good enough for London Underground... I've used it on a cellar that was 3feet of water before. Still dry 15 years later...

I have water coming in from the bottom and at the top on the sides. Can can I solve that?
@everlastbuilders3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jessica thanks for watching. If water is getting threw on the top sides. It could be a roof issue, fascia,soffit issue, problem with gutters or hole in the Sand cement mortar. So very hard for me to suggest a solution. Feel free to email me some pics and I can try and advise. George. Info@everlastimprovements.co.uk

What about painting the outside wall with stormdry cream lasts 25 years. Amazon £107 pounds
@everlastbuilders2 жыл бұрын
Never used the stuff but Iv heard good things about it. Apart from the price. Suppose if water is soaking threw the wall this would be good. But if the issue is rising damp, water soaking in from underneath. It probably wouldn’t work.
@raywilson31662 жыл бұрын
Stormdry penetrates deeper so in this situation would be more effective for "rising damp" rather than lateral splash damp - if that's it. Safeguard Europe dryrods for the rising damp.

Can you use Liquid DPM on the internal floor for a wooden shed? The floor is wooden. Thank you
@everlastbuilders7 ай бұрын
On the concrete pad yes. If your wooden floor in your shed is damp or wet it’s going to rot away. DPM will only mask the problem
@joshuacarvalho54057 ай бұрын
@@everlastbuilders AHH I see. Any product you recommend to prolong the life of the shed wooden floor? Thank You.
@everlastbuilders7 ай бұрын
Look up wood treatment. It’s a clear spray on or paint on liquid. That will buy you some time and preserve the wood. Sounds like your getting water under your shed. Ideally you need to stop that to. Maybe add some guttering?

@everlastbuilders Жыл бұрын
Hi I’m sure it is. but I can’t lie I haven’t been back. No news good news I reckon. If you have to paint a whole wall you could try using a masonry protection cream. It’s clear rather than black. Good luck
