I haven’t seen anyone use this method on how to stop limescale in a kettle, so I wanted to share it with you all.
There are 100’s of videos on how to remove limescale or descale your kettle but not many on how to prevent it.
I thought of this method 4 years ago and decided to test it out.
It works perfectly and after for years of use, my kettle (which is a very cheap one) is still going strong without limescale build up.
The best part this method is that it’s FREE and LAST FOREVER. No need to buy harmful chemicals that pollute and destroy our environment.
Try it out for yourself. It’s best used with a new kettle or a kettle with no limescale.

You do have lime scale on your metal element, the reason it’s not anywhere else in the kettle is because it’s plastic. Now bleach your cup.

😂😂😂😂😂😂, but plastic has a different impact. I was thinking the same, but your last comment was hilarious😂😂😂😂

There’s limescale in your kettle mate. You can’t see it? 😂

There is still limescale on the metal bit inside, you should use vinegar to get rid of that. You are also using filtered water which would reduce it! So it is costing you! Look I'm not saying it won't work what you're saying, but I will stick to vinegar once a month!

Still limescale on the element, which should be a shiny silver as new, as for the floor of the kettle. Now... In an empty kettle flood the element and kettle floor with only white/clear vinegar. Let it work for about three minutes then SCRUB gently with a washing up brush, steel scourer, until the calcium is gone. IF your calcium is still on after that, you have more aggressive calcium/or just more, in your water So. Boil 1 cup of water with half cup of same vinegar which makes calcium come off more. 2-3 times should have it like new if you scrub as before AFTER the boil (careful to let it cool for a minute or two after boiling. Waters vary, your water has more or less calcium than other locations. More = more build up in your boiler and kettle (if the municipal water goes in there). Aluminium/Titanium/steel rods (anode) rods are used in boilers these days to prolong the life of your water boilers. A couple of decades ago, people started using those metal scourers (like the current vileda's 'Glitzi' scouring balls), but they were tiny back then, purely for the kettle, doing the same job as a boiler anode rod, which is to absorb the heavy calcium deposits and keep your kettle looking new. So - it's in the water - if you keep putting 'hard' water in your kettle, your going to have to keep the kettle scourer IN, or clean your kettle every evening/week, according to your build up. Forgive my mistakes, I don't have a certificate of the academic kind, only life experience and being human just like you all.

Doesn't work unless like you - you have a filter already and you are in a soft water area!

I mainly wondered what you do but guess just empty kettle, my mug I use takes a whole kettle and a bit more, am thinking about using distilled water on next kettle as hope removes what in water that causes limescale

Sadly enough it doesn't work with my kettle. It's in inox inside could it be because it's in inox?

I thought the exact same thing...I used to use a water filter and it massively reduced limescale. Don't know where the idea of leaving the lid open comes from... calcium doesn't evaporate😂

I tried this but it doesn't work for me. My kettle does not have an element in the bottom it is stainless steel. I can get it nice and clean by putting in vinegar and boiling it and then rinse it out and it's great for a short time. I need to know why the buildup is coming back. I have a water softener and I thought that would stop this but not so. I have sent a water sample to my local health department to see what they find. . After that, I don't know what else I can do. I am on a well so there's not much I can change about that.

There is an extremely thin surface layer. But it's very difficult to completely eradicate limescale from your kettle without installing a water softening system. In this video i wanted to show you that you can stop limescale in your kettle from building up to a level where you have bits of it breaking off into you tea.

Yes. In fact, in any situation where you can remove water, it will reduce limescale built up.

This is a real pain... I put the kettle full so I can make 4 or 5 cups of tea without constantly refilling it between cups and waiting for it to get hot. Usually it's hot enough from the last time it boils super fast. This method would be a total time consumption (time which if added up would exceed the cost of buying a new kettle once a year or the extra electricity to boil more water).

You are using filtered water. Your BRITA water filter removes ALL the limescale, that's why there's no deposit in your kettle. It's not free !

Lmao this doesn't work, so you must live in an area that has softer water than me. I've been using this method for the past 4 months. Bought a new kettle a few days ago because my old kettle still kept getting lots of limescale. Carried on doing this method and within 2 days there was limescale build up. This method doesn't work unless you have soft water.
@diyr6894

I live in a hard water area. Sorry it hasn't worked for you. You should try using a water filter system like a Brita Filter before putting it into your kettle. Wow, your water must be made mostly of minerals for you to have limescale after only 2 days.

@@diyr6894 I live in basingstoke and it does seem like really hard water. Especially compared to when I used to live in the north east. I've given up trying to stop it and now just use scale away to clean my kettle once a month
@diyr6894
@diyr6894 4 жыл бұрын
That explains why this method didn't work for you. Basingstoke has the Hardest Water in the whole of the UK ! You'd be fighting a loosing battle. If you want to save some money, instead of buying scale away every month, use cheap White Vinegar in you kettle to descale it. It works really well.

Sorry, this is not at all a solution to de-scale a kettle. This method is no different to just emptying your kettle after you've booked water to make tea or to cook & then empty it. There's nothing to activate the cleaning or to lift & remove the lime scale.

You are meant to rinse your kettle after you've emptied the remaining water, making sure your plug is also out if the socket for safety precautions/energy saving !!

I find the heat in the kettle and on the element evaporates any moister in the kettle, leaving it dry inside withing a minute. I have rinsed it with water but i noticed that it cools the inside of the kettle and you end up getting water sitting inside the kettle, leading to limescale build up.
