I have a Ruger 357. I don't carry it, but it is a constant at the range. If for other reason than to hear that sweet BANG.

Also have a J frame, cool little gun. But in my area you could be at a severe disadvantage if you have less than 15 rds or your last name is not Miculek.

I was always low. All my pistols were shooting way low. So I always had all my sights set so no one else could hit with them. I eventually got fixed sights iron sights. And I couldn't hit with it. I was very consistent with where I was hitting. I was putting good groups on the target. Until I realized what I was doing. I was pushing with my trigger arm, and pulling with my off arm. And when I broke the shot, the gun would dip very consistently. When I learned that you don't push and pull, then I had the problem of realigning all my dots and variable sights. It took me months to diagnose this problem.

Myles had a great video on this. Great reminders!!! A bore sight with that trigger reset mag you can see the laser point move. You can see it dancing like the flight of the bumble bee, to see how steady you are holding it. Steady point of of aim, and isolated trigger finger pull. Great Video!!!

This channel continues to be a great source of information on how to improve my shooting. Thank you. Using a revolver to overcome anticipation. I have honestly never given this a single thought. I'll have to remember this next time I go to the range. I have always suffered from this to one degree or another. Better than it used to be, but still rears it's ugly head more than I like.

In a nutshell reputation is the key but it’s proper repetition that turns the key to unlock your true potential. And sometimes you have to review the basics to remind yourself of the things you forgot when you neglect an aspect of your training. Love this channel’s simplicity and organization! Thanks!

Thank you for the video. One thing which I have gotten different views on. Trigger finger placement. Some say, use the tip only on the trigger. I tend to to go a bit further down the finger. What's the best location to have the finger on the trigger??

Old buddy of mine taught me to squeeze the trigger slowly, concentrating on my sight picture, and when the gun goes off it should be a surprise. In ten minutes he broke a problem I’d had for 6 years (we were young when this went down😂). I’ve always found it to be the shooter anticipating the shot and too little or too much finger on the trigger depending on what hand was their dominant. Low left is the most common issue I’ve seen with right handed shooters, I personally don’t think red dots have any place in pistols. Then I think it’s a hand gun not a hands gun, but I’m a Fudd so 🤷‍♂️

I’ve experienced, after doing a lot informal training at my range ( cause I have a hard time watching folks just make noise with money ) , that some people are sorta uncoordinated and just don’t get shooting a pistol.

The problem with taking the slack out as a discrete step before breaking the trigger is it doesn’t translate well to shooting fast for most people. And it makes your shooting more dependent on the type of trigger. If you train to pull every trigger at a constant rate from beginning to end and only adjust the rate of pull, depending on how fast you’re trying to shoot, you might find that’s more universal to different triggers and types of shooting. People who can pull a trigger correctly all at once will automatically be good at prep and press too for when that’s called for

Could the way to aim (sight picture and alignment) the pistol also be a reason someone is shooting low, and maybe some pistols aim different?

I let my students earn a bullet. Dry fire again and again until they stop flinching & they recognize what they’ve been doing subconsciously. Once they are consistent with the trigger control, I give them one round. I never give them a full magazine. It’s like when you go to a driving range and get a bucket of balls. You have every intention to work on your swing. And most likely your first 4 or 5 balls are great. But then you look down at that bucket of balls (that you have to get through) and then you default to your old sloppy self - homeostasis. This is just for accuracy. Speed with accuracy comes later.

I'm kinda new here (to your channel), so I'm sorry if you've already covered this in another video and I just haven't found it yet, but what about hitting high and left? Whether it's my full size 9, my subcompact 9, my 380, or my 22's (auto and revolver): I tend to hit high and left: advice?

You might be closing your eyes in anticipation of the flash at the last second, you may be jerking the weapon up at the last second as you pull the trigger, or you have your trigger finger so high in the trigger you are pushing the gun up as you pull the trigger. Shooting left if your right handed is usually due to not enough finger on the trigger pushing the gun left as you squeeze the trigger. If you’re left handed it’s too much finger on the trigger and you’re likely pulling the gun as you squeeze the trigger. Combine this two and my guess would be your finger placement on the trigger is the likely cause of your issues. Have you ever tried dime drills, place a cleaning rod in the barrel balance and dime on the cleaning rod and keep the dime from falling when you squeeze the trigger while keeping good sight picture on target. It’s a great dry fire drill, but it’s much easier with a friend helping, doing it with a revolver will really get your trigger pull steady.

I'm not Dorr, but you don't have enough finger on your trigger. This causes the firearm to move to the left as you squeeze. To put it simply, you're pushing the middle to the left.

As for shooting high, is day that's probably stance, and anticipating the shot. Adjust your finger in slightly more. Pull very slowly on the trigger, let the shit superior you when it goes off. Do this until you get those rounds on target consistently, then slowly increase your fire until you can shoot consistently with a higher rate of fire. I hope this helps you.

You are the first person I have ever heard about zeroing a pistol red dot at 15 yards. I guess a lot of other people just assume it is known.

Shooting is a strange activity. I’ve been shooting for decades. Fifth award expert in the Marines, passed all of the qualifications courses in my law enforcement career without every struggling. I’ve been pretty successful at manipulating triggers. And in the last couple of months I am shooting low. Pretty sure it isn’t a flinch issue, when I put snap caps in the mag I’m not flinching when I get to the dummy round. And I’m low center, never low left. No idea what I’m doing. But trying to fix it is an excuse to spend more time on the range.

Interesting that you mentioned the elevator button. Under stress, maybe someone's late for work, they will push that elevator button so hard it could be sent through the wall. THAT'S what people are doing. A four pound trigger with a two pound gun and then then use eight pounds to PULL the trigger. Someone said you can push, yank and pound a trigger as long as you don't more the muzzle. That's not right. It's not going to happen. That same person later said to use ONLY as much pressure as needed to press the trigger. Now we're getting somewhere.
