Although “rest” has bad rap in the productivity world, “rest” is one of the most significant yet under appreciated methods of balancing your energy. Deliberate periods of rest are a great way of clearing your foggy mind to focus with intensity on your work. In the context of productivity, this would be a great video.
@anewagora
@anewagora 4 жыл бұрын
It would also be very useful and valuable to distinguish between activities in rest and entertainment. e.g meditation vs. watching KZfaq. The latter is not helpful with resting the mind, it's more like a force shut off and can even backfire if you end up watching more in depth videos, which I do for fun but can easily overdo, especially when overworked and ready for a break. And that kind of entertainment is merely the illusion of rest.

One really good question I like to ask myself before taking any commitments; "If I wasn't offered this opportunity would I have sought out doing it myself?" Helps me choose the really important stuff.

Overcommitting myself is how I keep myself from wasting time. Like I have a part time job and don’t get home on most school nights till 8, so I know that I don’t really have time to procrastinate on my homework. On my days off, I tend to procrastinate and waste time and start my homework at basically the same time. So if you don’t have free time you won’t waste your time because you don’t have any time to waste.

Kudos to you! I have found that doing the same thing to a certain extent also helps; but before that a certain level of self-discipline is required, and I think a lot of people need to work on that first. In an odd way, discipline is liberating. Just my 2 cents :D

“Remember that time is money.” - Benjamin Franklin The best way to stop wasting time : - Prioritize Put to-do’s in 4 groups: 1- Urgent and important 2- Not urgent but important 3- Urgent but not important 4- Neither urgent nor important The goal is to have as few things under “urgent and important” as possible. Those cause stress when they pile up. If you manage your time well, you’ll probably spend most of your time on “not urgent, but important” -- that’s where you can get the most useful things done and keep from feeling overwhelmed later.

A little addition to the final tip that has really helped me: if you have difficulties setting your own deadlines, either because you don't know how long it will realistically take you to do something or because you just don't honor them (I find it hard to cram in the long work sessions I usually have for an external deadline if it is one I set myself), try deciding how many hours you want to dedicate to this task each week instead. This also allows you to take some time off when you've reached your hour-count, so you don't have to quit netflix or videogames all together but don't have to feel guilty about it either

I didn't give the point about saying 'no' much thought when you mentioned it, I've heard about this in the past but I realise now that it's a very powerful reason for why we procrastinate. If we have too many goals, you end up sitting around worrying about remembering everything you have to do rather than sitting down and starting to do at least something but more importantly, the things you prioritised for yourself.

@vinteurs
@vinteurs 5 жыл бұрын
@@SimonWoodburyForget but how is that related to being a procrastinator at all? Procrastination is constantly putting work off, delaying it, wasting time. Being "productive" is getting important things done. What separates productivity from procrastination is the fact that productivity naturally comes with a reward, procrastination does not.
@vinteurs
@vinteurs 5 жыл бұрын
@@SimonWoodburyForget who the hell cares about _someone else_ here? We're talking about our own selves. Everyone wants to achieve something in their life and they need to work hard in order to achieve it. When I say I need to stop procrastination, I mean it from MY perspective, not yours because your perspective doesn't matter to me anyway. It shouldn't matter to me because you are not me, right? I agree with what you're trying to say but it's really not relevant here. You should be utilizing your time in this world positively, you should be productive in a way that suits you and your goals, you can't just call it procrastination because someone else has different goals from you and they're telling you you're wasting your time.
@vinteurs
@vinteurs 5 жыл бұрын
@@SimonWoodburyForget oh darn, sir, do you really not have any life goals? Let's suppose you don't have any goals at all. What about small steps towards a more organised and less miserable life? Homework? Grocery shopping? Making dinner? Cleaning your work space? These are small things almost all of us have to do. Instead, we can choose to spend times on our phones. Should we though?

These tips are quite helpful. For batching errands I have a CGGL (computer generated grocery list) with space on it for listing errands. The night before "errand day" I number the errands in order to be done to save time and gas. As for "saying no" , I did so once because I thought someone else could do the job better and it allowed me to do something else to move an organization forward; I never regretted that decision.

Ok oh my god the universe HAS TO BE SPEAKING TO ME As you mentioned the death bed regret topic I always have the same answer “resume singing lessons” and I HAPPEN to pick the video on KZfaq talking about time management where the speaker has the SAME answer as me?! Like SINGING lessons is something I put off due to many reasons but something I know I need to start over again and before you even said it, I thought of singing lessons the moment I saw heard/saw the death bed regret saying. Like literally so often, I think something g that is spoken by someone or a song in my head appears on shuffle or Spotify radio, I see the road sign of the word that was just in my head, I am CONVINCED I am on the right path with so many things clicking together Synchronicity

I read in some book that a way to say no was something along the lines” I’m honoured but I don’t have the time to give it that it deserves so I must decline/that you ask someone else” Depends on what it is, but I liked the ”deserve”, making it clear that appreciate the event or whatever and want it done in the best way which you unfortunately can not because previous commitments. Anyways, Thanks for the tips:)
