Re: RV Leveling Jack Spring Replacement: One broke so I decided to replace all 8. These are approx. a foot long. If you do not have an engine jack then try the floor jack. I have 2 jacks but the springs I am working with are too large to fit around the either jack's connection points. So, I recently added shelving in the garage and it is secured to the ceiling so it can withstand a lot of weight (I added a pull-up bar) and then I added an eye hook to the lower surface. I connect the spring to the eye bolt and to the other end of the spring I attach a rope/chain/wire (whatever you have) and 2 exercise weights 20lbs. each. I also tie in a foothold so along with the weight of the barbells, I place my foot in the stirrup and push down. I am them able to install spacers (a variety, including die grinder flat wrenches. Approx. 12. This will give enough elongation to install the spring on the rig, facilitated with a breaker bar for leverage and guidance. BE CAREFUL. I even secured the spring with a tied rope to an RV frame member in caase the spring ever got away from me, BOING BOING. The RV installation, of course, is done underneath the 10-ton behemoth so be sure to set the parking brake and add wheel chocks. You can remove the wheel but they are best handled by the world's strongest man. I just rolled under, equipped with gloves and eye protection and "popped" 'em right on. Well, it wasn't that easy--nothing is-- because each leveler has 2 springs and a base plate, so installing one spring at a time requires some ingenuity to stabilize the base. So to stabilize the base plate I used the floor jack to hold the plate up against the leveler end. Hang springs fitted with spacers to the top mount hole and finesse the spring, one side at a time, into the base plate mount hole. BINGO! One done, three to go. Note: Front leveler springs on a Class A are more difficult because of tighter layout and lower stance. For this, you will need to be as flexible as a Cirque Du Soleil acrobat. Just be careful as it is very easy to hit your head on a multitude of obstacles. Ouch! NOTE: You may not be able to use a creeper, and if not, just use a large piece of cardboard.

Wish I had seen this video before I wasted 2+ hrs trying to get a mower-deck lifting spring back into my John Deere L130...positioned it in the center of the jack it fit, added $9.50 in qtrs & i was able to pull the spring back into place. Upon removing the qtrs I ended up bending some then just hammered them flat...next time I'll use nickels so I won't have to pull as many coins out....20min & i was done...THANKS!!!!! .......if the loop on the spring didn't fit the floor jack I would have gone down to one of those smaller trolley jacks.

How would I add springs to a hood? I understand the concept of the spacers but how would I take the spacers out to set the spring in place? Thank you.
