How to STRIKE YOUR IRONS & Your WOODS - You Need to Know the Difference!

Have you ever found that some days you hit driver amazing but strike your irons poor and then on a completely different day you suddenly struggle to hit your driver anywhere near the fairway but out of nowhere now strike your irons like a PGA Tour Player 😁
Why is that? 🤷
One possible reason that you may forget from time to time, is that your fairway woods and Driver are different to your irons and require a slightly different approach and golf swing.
It's not a huge difference and therefore is pretty easy to implement but you need to be aware of it. Too often I see golfers hitting their fairway woods and driver with the same golf swing they hit their irons and vice versa.
Today you are going to learn how to easily adjust your golf swing for your irons, fairway woods and driver.
It's super simple!

ABOUT DANNY
-----------------------
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
On KZfaq and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble
I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

Practice swings are so important before you take the real swing. Every practice swing needs to be focusing on where the club is meeting the low point. Good content Danny.

This was the best illustration I have seen for how to improve my consistency in striking. Can’t wait to go to the driving range and take it to the golf course. My guess is once my body understands the principle, it remains the same for all my clubs, but I will have to play around with the different lengths to get used to hitting long and short irons

Thanks Danny, I notice that, early in the downswing, you plant the left foot. This must establish the correct pivot and ensure that the low point is on the left side. With the fairway 'woods' the downswing seems to be exactly the same as the irons, but the ball position is 2" further forward. Roger

Hi Danny- Back to my question of how to get the upward motion of upper body (chest shoulder) going up in the backswing and downswing to get the arc right and to stop just swinging around. I found that focusing on the upward motion or bit as you call it is only half correct. It is my understanding that this upward bit is not so much as a direct consequence of a deliberate move of that part but rather a by product of the opposite leg straightening at an angle and the upward bit will happen quite naturally. To illustrate on the downswing if you straighten/extend the rear leg that is on a slant towards the target( whilst keeping the slant target wards) the left/lead/front shoulder/lead breast will rise up and back as the club head goes down into impact following the catapult idea. So the key for me is to extend the opposite leg to where you want the upper bit to rise so the club can come down. Whew!- what a lot of words but does this make sense?

Thanks, Danny. Love your instruction/videos--clear and to the point. I've been struggling with finding my swing plane, often blocking or drawing the ball, which makes my width error rather broad. Meaning I miss the greens on both sides. Focusing on the up and down and up, seems to be giving me more chance to swing down the line, as opposed to coming across or pushing out, both of which I am doing.

Awesome advice Danny. You have helped me sooo much this year both understand the dynamics and create a better swing and more consistency. I even played a major part in taking down a one handicap and 3 handicap pair in an inter club match at the weekend, parring 8 0f my 11 shot holes. Thank you sooo much. Now to get the handicap down next year. 👍😉

I came up with a suuuuuuuuper effective drill for learning the swing and getting started on all this. IF you hold your lead arm straight and fold your trail arm "upward", it REALLY gives you the sensation of the swing. From there you can work on lowpoint and positioning much easier. It helps a lot of people and has helped my friends a great deal when I want them to feel the swings true motion. It's weird at first for most people, but it doesn't take long before the lightbulb goes on and they are messing around with positions and getting that grip even more secure/solidified ... which ultimately makes the golf swing feel natural. Thanks for all the tips and help through the years Danny. It's been quite a journey!

can you expand on "fold your trail arm "upward""? Trying to understand - thanks

@@howardclark2906 Like you are holding a briefcase and you bend your arm from your elbow up. Kinda like a karate chop haha! Just like you're lifting a dumbell... that's the motion I'm talking about. The lead arm is crucial in this though. If you bend that... you lose your "feel" for distance and accuracy. I can't stress how important your lead arm (left for right hand dominant) is. Without the leadarm being straight, you change the arc... and you lose the feel for the clubhead.

Thanks Danny. I think my biggest problem is coming over the top from time to time, simply because my forward swing is the same plane as my back swing whenever I do single-plane motion. I need to somehow get comfortable with getting my arms tucked in to my sides for longer clubs.

Your lessons are always excellent Danny. This is definitely one of the very best! Clear description and explanation and really helpful drills with the feedback station. Regarding ball position I guess the obvious point is that for fairway woods/ metals it should be just a bit back from the lead heel?

Great instruction video Danny! Especially about learning where the low points are PER club type then learning how to hit that type of club from there. This is great as I just got new clubs and can fold this into learning my new clubs distances. Headed to the range today !

Always appreciate the tips. But from a production standpoint, thank you for keeping your videos concise and structured. I could make an outline of this video like I was in 7th grade composition class, and that's am excellent thing! It means you're not clogging up your work with useless fluff. Although if I could effortlessly swing the wrenches like you, it would ALL be edited clips of me looking back at the camera with a s*!t eating grin 🤣

Very nice video as always Danny. Also what you mentioned with driver to look more towards center of the stance when you hitting the ball. I am also doing a drill when I am looking slightly forward of the ball when I am hitting my irons and it helped me with my low point so I strike them more consistently now.
