How to "Switch Kick": Lead-Leg Roundhouse Kick

Күн бұрын

When starting Muay Thai or kickboxing classes, many people have trouble with the lead leg roundhouse kick (or "switch kick"). Just know that's normal, as your non-dominant leg usually has less dexterity -- for most of us, that's our left leg. All this means is that you need to practice more with that leg! Some key points when doing this technique:
1. Arm Swing: assist in the rotation of your hips and shoulders by correctly swinging your arms
2. Pivot on Ball of Foot: when kicking to the body or head, rise up onto the ball of your foot as you pivot your toes away from your target
3. Upper Body Tall: don't lean back when you do this; keep your head over your support leg

When I first started MMA, my coaches were super impressed because I had never done any kind of sparring before, and was still able to hold my own with some of their amateur fighters. Ricky Aguilar I’m 17, and weigh 150 lbs. started learning very basic skills off KZfaq about striking and grappling when I was about 13. Started formally training in Judo and taekwondo after my 16th birthday. Got my green belt in judo and started training in mma a year later (3 months ago).

Ricky Aguilar most definitely not. A lot of people get started late. I was just fortunate enough to have a gym/ dojo fairly close to wherever I’ve lived. A lot of the guys I train with are in their 20’s and are pretty athletic, most of them having done sports in high school like wrestling and such.

@@benbutton5835 He didn't exactly give much detail, so I'm going based off of what he said. If he didn't ask questions or ask for help, and just complained on KZfaq when he got home, he's the problem. Like I said, he's not experienced enough to know if he's just taken his first class. Shut up and grind, then figure out what is what.

Bro I've been doing martial arts for 4 years now and I've come to the conclusion that we shouldn't try to perfect techniques. Obviously we are Mixed Martial "Artists" so we should be paying attention to detail in our movements, techniques, range, whatever.. However just look at Shane in this video... He demonstrates how you should guard your face when throwing the kick, but then when he does the kick his hands are dropping and swinging to help his kick. It all comes down to what you're dealing with. It's all about Situational awareness and dealing with problem accordingly. Humans are not perfect, our strikes, throws, trips, defense, submissions, ect will never be perfect 100% of the time neither.

@@matthewreid1175 You make a good point. For me I'm always trying to make my strikes as powerful and as fast as possible, transferring force correctly, snapping punches etc which is a never ending mission I guess. Especially when your comparing your skills to your favorite pro fighters.
