Having trouble with those late takeoffs?! LETS FIX THAT!
Before we get started, know that this is a VERY IN DEPTH look into taking off on hollow barreling waves. This isn't something you can learn in 5minutes, or even the 26min in this video, so I dove into as much as i could explaining everything you need to know, to improve your take offs, and get more barreled. It works for me, and I hope it can help you too!

Agree with everyone here in that this was one of the most useful tutorials I've seen but what made it even better was showing some of the take offs not made. I hate not making take offs so often I will choose the safer option, which means missing out on possibly the best waves. Seeing that even the best take a fall is actually encouraging and has fired me up to take more risks on the take off. Great work.

@@brettbarley Hey Brett, Im 6'5 and even though ive been surfing shortboards and in general for a few years now, I still struggle to pop up without using my knee a tad when surfing a shortboard, which is a massive hinderance. I can however do it on my big thick longboard, do you have any tips between making that transition? I find it hard to unfold my lanky legs haha
@brettbarley
@brettbarley 5 жыл бұрын
@@sambowden890 It's just a matter of practice and repetition. Once you do something enough, you're bound to improve. Try riding a shorter board in smaller waves first... compared to a longboard, you have to be super quick on your feet to get up and ride the wave with speed. So even though it may not be as fun as longboarding small waves, it'll force you to learn to pop up quicker.

This is the best described/vocalized surf tutorial I have ever watched!!!!! You Should do a video on the basics of turning as I see so many people in the surf doing far too much upper body movement/wiggling that their lower body can keep up with.
