A really attractive woman moved in next door to me. She started chatting to me and mentioned my cat. I denied having a cat. I can't explain why I did that. I do have a cat but in the moment I forgot. I've had that cat for 10 years.

That's almost another sketch for VLDL Neighbour: "Awww, what a cute cat! Is that yours?" (Cat moves through legs while purring) You: "Uhh... Cat? I don't know any cats." Neighbour: "Oh! Then... I could swear there is a cat walking around your legs." You: "Nuh-uh. Must be your imagination. Is that everything?" Neighbour: "Uhhh... Sure..." You: /closedoor /gotobed /rethinklife

I was on a plane ride and a cute girl in front of me that I had noticed earlier snuck a note with her phone number on it between the seats. I stood up and gave it back to her thinking she had lost it or something. She was sitting next to her parents who realized what had happened when I told her she lost her note. I still to this day can't believe how stupid one can be. This is probably 12 years ago

Group of us guys met a group of girls one Saturday afternoon (we were all in our mid 20s) and invited them to a house party we were going to that night. All cute but one girl was clearly a step above. We were all talking and hanging out that party. At the end of the night, everyone is packing up to head out. I, the introvert, was trying to think of how to set something up for the future when I see in the other room, the hot girl I like, give her phone number to my roommate, Kerry. Oh, the deflation at that point. Kerry, the extrovert wins the day. A few minutes later, she comes up to me and says “can I give you my number?” I, the idiot, say “yea, I saw you give it to Kerry, I can get it from him.” (What a stupid thing to say. I didn’t even make eye contact when I said it.). To which she replies, “yea, he asked me for my number but I WANT to give it to you.” Thank goodness for her directness. We dated for a year or so. Wonderful woman.

Almost 5 years ago when I was a senior in college, I had an insanely hot female friend. We had put together a small group of our friends that would go snowboarding together pretty frequently. One day in early February, once we had finished riding for the day I asked her to go snowboarding with me on February 14th and she enthusiastically said yes. That day our friends had classes so it was just us. I noticed that she was acting a little more flirty that day, and we even started talking about previous relationships and stuff while on the slopes. I didn't pick up on a single hint until I got back to my apartment and my roommate asks me how my Valentines Day was. I had asked my crush out on a date on Valentines Day and didn't realize it.

This place I worked, it was a restaurant so you’d think I’d know how to talk but this was over Covid. Started at this new place and it was like walking into a family, everyone was best friends, went to school together, a young chef and his parents both worked there and it was a big team. Anyways all the girls were stunning and sort of accepted they were out of my league, even though looking back they probs weren’t. This one girl who was the hottest IMO, she used to hug me every time I came in, kiss me on the cheek etc. When the place was shut for the day, we all post individual selfies in the group chat, I posted mine and she replied “Tom you look amazing”, I replied “thank you darling” 🤦‍♂️. Later on I went on a night out with everyone from work besides this girl and another, later on in the night when I was drunk all the girls cornered me and asked “who do you fancy at work and who’s the hottest”, I panicked and said this other girl who was deffo out of my league as she had a modelling career so I said her as a safe option. Then this girls best friend (not the model girl) said “what about Beth” (name of the girl who liked me), I said “nah”. Hit later and I was like ffs, I dont think I said the other girl as a way to deflect her, think I just played that safe coz it was a typical and safe answer and didn’t want the gossip.

This was back in high school, 15 years back. There were 5-6 new students who had transferred from another school in same city to ours. After about 15 days, an attractive chick from among the new students comes to speak to me when I was alone at my desk and exactly says to me: "I think I like you". I was shy and completely unprepared, so without even making any eye-contact my response was: "okay, thank you", and I continued doing my work. In my mid-twenties I was on the beach in Thailand and three hot girls called over the guy selling water bottles. I stopped the guy, gave him the money for the three bottles, and then brought them over to the girls all smooth-like. I chatted them up and they were all beautiful smiles and seemed into me, but I was nervous. I never did stuff like that, but I was in Thailand and forced myself to be bold. It was going great until like an idiot I asked them for the money for the water bottles! And the worst part is, the cost was like eighteen cents for all three! Their faces dropped when I asked and they said 'oh' and started reaching into their bags. At that point I knew I f'd up and was panicking. I took the money, and practically ran out of there. 25 years later, whenever I think about it I scream out loud until the horrible memory goes away.

Time to give in my two cents. I was 20-22ish at the the time and went on a volunteering trip. Women slept in one building, men in another. I met this one cute girl who I hit it off with but in my naïve mind I thought that she was just being nice. After a while she introduces me to her also cute friend. During the last night of the trip the whole group was around a bonfire at night, eating, drinking, mingling, but the three of us stayed together. Around midnight they say to leave the party and head over to their room. I walk up with them and they're touchy and flirty with me but my stupid ass brain didn't catch on to that. So when we arrive to the door I f*cking say "Ok well since men aren't aloud in and I'm tired I guess I'll just head back to my room and call it a night". They look at me bewildered and say "are you sure?!" and I just say "yeah its been a fun trip but I want to sleep now". They again ask "are you sure?!?!" I AGAIN refuse. We say our goodbyes and never see each other again. I still have trouble sleeping when I remember this.

You can always end up regretting something though. I had a good sense for that kind of thing, and I don't regret a thing regarding missed opportunities. However, because I had an easy time finding new sex mates I indulged in it too much, which led to me completely abandoning everything else. So if I were to regret anything I would regret not getting a high school degree. The good thing is I don't seem to need it anyway, but it might come in handy eventually. But either way everything comes at a cost. Perhaps if you didn't miss those opportunities you would end up having some of those girls pregnant, or worse you would catch something.

When I was going to school, I worked at a full service gas station just south of the financial district. There were a lot of amazing looking women that came in to get gas there, both young secretaries and older executives. If I have the advantage, meaning I am in a comfortable environment like work, I can chat up most any woman. I just feel relaxed and have no issues being witty and saying the right things. That is until they start liking what I was saying and start getting interested, then I freeze up or just sound stupid. I had a couple ask me for my number, and I responded by telling them I could give them a business card for the station and tell them about the services the garage offered. I started to change after one of them took the card and flipped it over and then ask directly for my number and wrote it down. After that, I noticed more of the women who flirted with me and took advantage of it. It turned out that working at a full service gas station was a great place to pick up women. Best job I ever had.

Not as painful as many of the stories i’m reading here but thought I would add my contribution. I’m a simple simple guy from simple origins but once joined my friends from college to a violin concert which was quite outside of my normal past time activity. I actually turned out to really enjoy it and in the break of the concert, this really classy pretty women I could only dream off approached me. She asked me if she could ask me a couple of questions for a study she was conducting among the concert audience. I agreed and she asked me a couple of questions about why I visited the concert and stuff like that. The conversation was fun and we even found out we had mutual friends. She wrote nothing down which I thought was weird and after a while the questions got more personal and I couldn’t see how they were relevant for any study. I sort of disrupted the conversation to ask what exactly the study was about and how many questions she had left. She didn’t really give a clear answer and the conversation ended there. I immediately realised what I did which made the second half of the concert far less enjoyable. I just never imagined a guy like me meeting a woman like that at a fucking violin concert, it was too good to be true. Who the fuck conducts a study without writing anything down and wearing a gala dress. After typing this, I don’t see how this is any less painful than the other stories here lol. I’m an idiot. Let’s hope I learned my lesson.

I clearly had enough chemical for both of us though. My mind exploded knowing this was my moment to be the knight in shining armor. She walks over to me and politely points out her mistake, clearly giving me my opening to come to her rescue. ....Boys.... We got along great for a week and to close of the week there was a dance. I had a splitting headache so at 21.30 i told my new friends and her that i would turn in. She said she also was not feeling great and she walked me to my room. I open the door and she follows me, so i walk towards the bed and i feel a hand on my shoulder. She asked with a Smile if there was anything she could do to make me feel better, my immortal reply was "no im good, thanks. nothing an ibuprofen wont fix". She left and i am still banging my Head against a wall 20 years later.

She really cries that time and i swear she really held back herself from smacking my face. Was reprimanded and i really felt super bad at the end she just forgets about it and just goes on with her day. At a summer camp in Ireland, I was 17, a couple of very lovely girls kept giggling while looking at me and laughing at me or so I though. I started to have the impression I was ridiculous in some way for these girls, during the 2 weeks of camps they did it until one of them actually sat next to me and leant on my shoulder, I was still thinking she was testing me and ready to laugh at me had I shown any sort of interest so I didn't react in any way and she simply got bored and left. It was the last day of the camp. Only years later did I realize that she was probably interested in me and giggled like any girl her age would in this situation. I just have to add she was particularly beautiful, to this day I can't think about this story without wanting to punch myself in the face

She looked straight at Tony, saw the logo on our shirts and asked if we we needed to survey the windows from inside or outside, and he tried to speak but muddled his first two words, then just babbled a stream of unintelligible baby speak and went bright red and sweaty. I sent him back to the van, apologised to the client and lied that he had learning difficulties and I'd brought him to help give him more life experiences, and did the survey. She thought I was amazing because if it. When we left, she came out to the van and slowly talked to him through the window as if he was 5, then slow motion waved him and said bye. This is so accurate from the Introvert perspective. My sister once brought one of her friends to our house for a sleepover, she was really beautiful & gorgeous. During the night while we were watching TV, she started talking about one of her favourite authors. One of them was also one of my favourites & I thought to myself, "I should talk about it." Out of the blue, I started talking about one of his latest books & she's immediately interested with her eyes fixed on me & listening intently. At that moment I was lost for words. All of the sudden & I kid you not, I couldn't tell what I loved about the book. I literally tried to explain one peculiar part & I almost couldn't do it without saying too much, "Uhhh..." Sweat was starting to come out on my head & I was probably blushing while she is looking at me exactly like the woman in the video.

Alright. So this is a reverse story. Back in Uni, I, a girl, was once asked out to a lunch by a guy. I’m pretty bad at defining people’s look*, but I think maybe he’s not bad. In terms of personality though, I can confidently say that he’s great. We both became friends real quick cause we play games. Imagine that. Out of the very few guys who had ever had a crush on me, he’s the only one who game and likes geeky stuff, like me. Before asking me out for that lunch, he consulted with a guy friend, who is also my friend, whether he should confess or not. And I think this friend, doesn’t know that the girl was me, so he just told him to go and confess. Thus the lunch. But I’m kinda scared about a guy having a crush on me, as I also haven’t had a crush on anyone since primary school I think. So I turned him down, *knowing that something might happened*, thus scared me. I really do think he’s a brave guy, as I heard like a year later from that friend, that he was very confused and nervous. I’m still scared and insecure of relationships til this day. I do wish him a great partner. Sometimes, I wondered if it would’ve gone differently if that friend knew that the girl was me. Cause he knew my personality a bit better, and knew that I avoided relationships. And maybe, maybe the guy’s approach would’ve been different. If he reads this, I hope he knows that it’s not anyone’s fault. I do not think any less of him. In fact, I think he’s a great and brave guy. Perhaps I might never get to be with someone like him, but I don’t regret it, I treat the guys who had a crush on me the same. I plainly reject, cause I’m such a p*ssy and insecure person. Too bad it kinda became awkward between us after graduation… well how can it not, I’m socially awkward. And he’s the same, I think.

I was 20 and in a billiards hall with friends one Friday night. An absolute bombshell beauty came up to me and started flirting. Her friend came over and joined in. We played billiards and had a lot of fun for a couple hours. Later that night they asked if I wanted to follow them back to their place. I repeat: THEY asked if I wanted to follow THEM back to THEIR place. I said I couldn’t because I had to work in the morning? 15 years later and the regret has not diminished an ounce.

well do i have another one... so just the first or second week of the college, i was feeling terrible because of a surgery. i was in pain most of the time and my mood wasn't high. i was consistently terrible at getting through the first weeks of school my entire life, i don't think i ever started talking to people after 7 months or something. so this wasn't going well but it started going worse because my math class was exceptionally crowded for some reason. normally i could find an empty row but that time it was all full and i had to sneak my way to the back rows and actually had to sit by other folks. my anxiety peaked there and i was legit shaking. as i was trying to calm myself down the girl on the row below turned and asked me if the class was the calculus class. i wasn't expecting that i was able to mumble a "yes". she said thanks and turned. not much later her friends came like 2 girls and a dude i guess. anyways we do the lecture and i am stressing the whole time because it's so crowded, i can't breathe, i can barely see the board because i am too far back, i get anxious because there are people sitting by my side. the lecture ends and i am still trying to not to die. then that girl's friends leave the class but she stays behind. then she turns back to ME AGAIN and asks my name. i swear it took like 3-4 seconds to barely say my name with a lot of stuttering. it's a bit weird but it should get better right? WRONG she asks other things like my department etc and i send the questions back with answers that take took long to say because i have to think about it like my brain slowed down by a factor. i don't even remember her answers because i was fighting for my life. she doesn't question me anymore and the class ends. i didn't pay a lot of attention but i have never seen her in that class again. that was the only time an individual of female species tried to communicate with me in college just out of curiosity or interest and i made such a beautiful mess out of it. in my defense, that's happening just after the pandemic and my already awful social skills were completely vanished. i barely had any human interaction for 1.5 years. i couldn't even say hello without preparing for it a day before. that unfortunate girl had to see the worst of me, awful communication, bad mood and a sore and stitched abdomen.

Problem: we never have a plan because we never really think we’re going to get that far. Case in point: I remember back in college in this one lounge I used to hang out in there was this 9.5/10, blonde, near-model studying engineering (I know right!?). One day when I was feeling particularly elated and balsey I commented on her nice leather jacket as she passed by on her way out. I 150% anticipated a “thanks” and continuance on her way. Instead, she stopped to chat for what ended up being like 15-20 minutes. At the end, I had to leave for class. She asked me if I had anything planned for that upcoming weekend, to which I replied “sorry, I do, heading back to spend the weekend with family” (which was true). And that was it. I left just like that. It’s not that I didn’t fully realize in the moment what she was suggesting. It’s just that I was so unprepared for it that my psychological defense mechanism was to pretend ignorance. Anyway, I didn’t sleep much that week. And I stopped hanging out in that lounge. But maybe a month or two later she ran into me somewhere and immediately jumped into conversation and wanted to catch up. I was so blown away as I had assumed she just thought I was an idiot and that I had flushed my chance down the toilet. I’ll spare the details but basically I did virtually the exact same thing again. So I got that blue moon second chance and still f’ed it up. Been years now and I’ve long since moved on to other relationships and such, but I still get shudders when I think back on it.

Same with me, a girl asked me to watch movie and just like you I reject it right away because that's my defense mechanism, I regret it right away but I can't tell her that I actually can and want to watch movie with her. Months later after very minimal contact, she asked me to accompany her playing an indoor ice skate, but again I reject her because I don't know how to ice-skating and again it's my defense mechanism. I am still embarrassed at myself for my own low self-confidence back then if I remember this event. Looks like she's married now, well good for her.

Half a decade late to the party but guess I'll add my two cents. When I was about 20 I was a barman at my local pub. I was placed in charge and tasked to train any new staff we hired. We took on this absolutely insanely hot girl, who was without any hyperbole the most stunning girl any of us had ever seen. In a totally different league to anyone we had ever seen in our small northern English town. I was training her and we got on well. Didn't think much of it though. No way I had a snowballs chance in hell. One evening after our shift we go and sit in one of our booths to enjoy a drink. She then tells me quite literally, in the most plain and unfiltered terms imaginable that she really likes me and wants us to go on a real date, and get to know each other better. I just say 'No you don't, that's impossible'. She insists. I insist she's lying. The lass was literally being as direct as she could possibly be and here's me just like 'nah, impossible!', as though this simply could not be the reality I was currently experiencing. I see her again on a night out about 5 years later and she brings that event up and how much of a colossal idiot I was. I would have done something at this point since I was no longer an idiotic child, but she was married by then of course. I genuinely regret this to this day, she was absolutely unbelievable, but my brain simply refused to process it.
