@@sitdowntwice haha on Russian will be “хаха”, but it’ll sound rude in chatting it’s better just to mix “а”, “х”, and sometimes “п”. Like this: “ахахахаххаха”, “пхахахаххаха”, “ахаха”.

@@ormsvn it was a joke, like irony, the man said that he know Russian cuz he's native, and reply was that joke "как будет haha по русски" by another native speaker. So it's just rude Russian humor. U can't understand it, u have to feel it

Зачастую большую часть слов в видео мы не говорим. Всë сокращается до: -Здравствуйте -Здравствуйте -есть наша карта?(карта Пятëрочки например) -да есть(или нету) -наличкой(или картой)(также говорит покупатель) -спасибо за покупку, до свидания -До свидания

I loved the older ladies in Russia at the checkouts! They could tell i was foreign and pointed and spoke slowly to help. Teaching me to say "gaz" or "no gaz" when getting water. 🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺

Fantastic video. Russian has this in common with British English. We make requests more polite by putting them in the negative. Вы не подскажете, где находится молоко? = You couldn't tell me where the milk is, could you? Btw чайник can be kettle or teapot in English. Kettle is the water boiler you plug in and teapot the pot you brew the tea in. I think in the café it would be teapot not kettle.

In a supermarket at the checkout, it's enough to say yes or no, many people do this, it's normal, no one will think that you are rude. I think it will be convenient for foreigners who do not know Russian well.

Thank you, so interesting for me! As I was born and raised in the south of Austria, we in our dialect have a lot of influence from the slavic world because we are neighbours, so I don' t have a problem with the "A" at the beginning of a sentence, it's natural for me 😁.

the music in the coffee shop is exactly what plays over and over at the grocery stores in the U.S. just a background detail that surprised me. I assumed all the background music in stores would be in russian

Да, он просто решил показать сразу всё что можно сказать на кассе. У меня обычно такой разговор: -- Здравствуйте (кассираша) -- Здравствуйте, по карте (или здрасте (я)) *Потом можно хоть без слов протянуть ей карту магазина* *Далее платишь* -- Спасибо за покупку -- Угу, спасибо, до свидания -- До свидания И я под одним комментом ещё написала как может произойти. Щас, найду тот коммент

Очень интересно, как можно делать образовательный контент... из чего угодно, например, разговора с кассиром. Когда идёшь на кассу, иногда хочется побыстрее закончить, учитывая какие бывают кассиры. Но получилось действительно интересно! Даже с учётом того, что я и так из России...

[04:19] easier way to explain "Пожалуйста" here is that it means not only "please", but also "you're welcome". There, it was "you're welcome to put your card here". Also, it works as the standard reply to "thanks".

4:07 "наличными или по карте" is a Moscow variation. In Siberia they would ask you "наличный или безналичный рассчёт?" or "нал или безнал?" which is more common.

In English, we don’t say chicken drums, we say chicken drumsticks. (Sorry to be pedantic!) But the Russian is very useful, and it is just the sort of words that we need.

In German we barely talk at the register unless we actually want to converse with that specific person, and we just say "Hallo" (Hello/Privet) when they start scanning your stuff, then wait till they scanned it all and they tell you the amount so you just give them the money, or if you want to pay with Card you say "Mit Karte, bitte" (with card, please/s kartoy, pozhaluysta) and that's it, then you just say "Danke" (Thanks/Spasibo) or if you wanna be nice "Schönen Tag noch" (have a nice day/khoroshego dnya). You'd also be totally fine by just gesturing/showing anything you want, or nodding you head and looking at the person as form of saying "Hello" quietly and holding your cash/card up without saying anything, they'll offer you the receipt either way by holding it towards you and you can just nod or shake your head.

I am an Indian & i know only english & hindi & STILL was able to get around ALONE !! Nonl trouble in shoppin or even buying alcohol where u have all the snacks in one place !! & the toilets in some restaurants are heated ! And and vodka helped me combat the minus cold weather in March .. damnnnnnn its was COLD AF !!! Also booked cab without much difficulty though i walked alot with google map ! Though russia is SO VAST!! So much to explore... .. though dint venture out in nights... i roamed around & shopped SO MUCH esp from red square mall - one that goes 2 the basement & has a food court below with kfc etc. Will visit soon when i can.

Кстати как посмотрел этот видос, осознал, что у нас сервис реально отличается от того же американского. В США у тебя все очень хорошо уточнят и вопросов назадают, и спросят how are you, может даже small talk какой будет. а у нас клиенты все сами все спрашивают и удостоверяются. я не критикую, за всю жизнь в россии привык. мы так делаем чтобы не было недопониманий и чтобы все быстрее прошло, хоть если и объективно смотреть, это все равно конечно такое себе

Во многом согласна, но с другой стороны, я всегда первой говорю "по карте" или "наличными", потому что знаю, что кассир на дню говорит это раз 500 и хочу помочь, чтобы ему/ей не пришлось это повторять хотя бы для меня

Очевидно, закрытый в себе человек, говорит что продавцы не говорят с покупателями в России, бред же. У любого продавца навыки работы на высоком уровне, потому что производство линейное. В магазине, обычно, на меня тратят секунд 40, и я знаю что я могу поговорить за это время, потому что продавец совершенно не напрягается. Я, к примеру, знаю даже некоторых продавцов из магазинов, которые я часто посещаю. Про уточнения я согласен. Но как можно из застенчивого подлобья посмотреть объективно, и как можно в здравом уме ставить слово "объективно" и "посмотреть" вместе? Я за три года в Китае усвоил что с тобой стараются вообще никогда не говорить, так радуйся тем что с тобой здороваются, если тебе, конечно, кажется что круто идти на контакт со всеми;)

*C1/C2 word* Байка - tale, story that could happen IRL usually amusing. It has no proof like real story, no hidden meaning like parable, no punch-line like joke or anecdote, no someone familiar like rumor, no magic like fairy tale, no author like fictional story. Urban legend can be байка. John Wick had murdered someone using a pencil - that's байка, but further it becomes to be real. Related words: баять - tell a tales (it's really archaic word) баян - 1 bard, skald (also archaic word, came from previous one) 2 musical instrument like accordion 3 internet slang (loosely related yo the other, but really useful), may be spelled боян, байан, бойан - something already seen/known, old joke. Example: rickrolled once - classic, rickrolled twice - боян

@@ryanbrennan4634 strange, I managed to learn basics of Finnish with it. Then honestly I don't know what will work on you. Maybe try reading Russian Wikipedia using Google translate idk

Change the language on your phone to Russian, see the questions you are interested in in Russian, translate better in Deepl, as for me this translator is better than Google, translates more naturally. This is how I learn English without any money, and there are videos on YT with correct pronunciation

I notice you say, "по карте." Recently, I have seen some sites on the Internet that say this is wrong and you must say, "картой." Is "по карте" more natural somehow?

It can be considered as an grammatically wrong construction which is in use despite wrong, natives don't care about differences between these two variations

"Картой" - "by the card" is literal meaning, "по карте" - literal meaning is not the meaning this phrase is usually said with

Jesus that is so formal it gives me anxiety. I’m in US “hi” and “thanks” is all I say to a cashier usually. Such formality, if used at all, is often used sarcastically and very angrily for the case that you sort of hate someone or if someone makes an unreasonable request of a worker.
