you want cement board for a shower cubicle, then you can use this on top otherwise if any moisture gets through it will undermine the plasterboard and fall apart from experience.

it has lots of different compounds etc, pva can be used to seal against moisture then primer and paint depending what you're doing

you would use cement board with stainless steel screws

We use an acrylic primer paint first with three coats and then Mapei on top - hope that helps.

NSAI Circulated a memo in Ireland in 2014 saying plywood is not a suitable substrate for Tiling on. Recommend product is magnesium board or cement board.

Yep you could also do that, thanks for the suggestion.

Fibreglass and resin isn't as flexible. Movement in the structure could cause edges to come away and compromise the seal.

Not to mention the noxious fumes filling the house.

@@jakelowman5721 never heard of it, but with bathrooms it's important to do the tanking properly to avoid issues with tiles etc from experience

We used thick plywood for walls then screwed cement board on top, each was tanked etc. You can tank the plastboard then tile over it, just make sure it's properly done otherwise it can be costly in the long run. For the flooring we also used really thick ply, tanked, applied some adhesive for a special waterproof membrane then tiles. but we used good quality materials including adhesive etc throughout, we had a bad experience with a previous bathroom so wanted to do everything right and did not want issues as it's upstairs. Daniel Thanks for the tips. I dont want to have to get it done twice so I'll make sure its done properly. Cant really find a detailed step by step guide on how to do certain diy projects in the bathroom but I'll just have to go to numerous sources of information.

@@debbiehorne7191 You want knauf aqua panel or similar, then it all tanking with Mapei but make sure they are going to do it properly.

Not “basically yes”. The answer is yes. That’s the whole point of this product. To seal the wall to prevent water that might find its way behind the tiles, through the gap to the shower tray or between two walls at a corner or even if the grout is not perfect. This saves the wall from going moulds etc. Use a powdered C2 tile adhesive. 👍

@@DanielJohnHowTo it was outlawed by British standards at the start of 2018 due to the decrease in plywood quality imported from overseas. Iv just seen however your video was posted dec 2017 so will remove the comment but you should update the video to reflex the change in standards

It is, but it doesn't matter too much because once it's all tiled which it was and looked very nice you would never know - it's not what it looks like now, it's the end result that matters, there has some wisdom free of charge, thanks for your comment.

Daniel you had loads of creases that didn't brush out. Should be using the brush to push it right into the corner then brush to outer edges. It will work but if you were doing it like that for me I would be whinging but then I'm ocd.

I use a stiff wallpaper brush to get the tape right into the corner, being careful not to make and rips or holes in the tape as i dab it with the brush

Gyula Nagy It has been applied correctly and you never see it anyway so it does not matter, things don’t always need to be perfectly done and we are living in the real world. The bathroom never had any leaks etc which proves the tanking process was done correctly despite the aesthetics, how many bathrooms have you done ?
