Thanks for this very useful information❤ I actually struggle to help my wife (25 years) how to read. She didn't have chance to go to school and had always worked at the farm since her childhood until we got married 3 years ago. We both want to homeschool our children it's my honor to help both my wife and my child learning how to read together😊

I developed a love from reading from my 5th grade teacher who would read chapter books aloud to us in class every day. I am thankful for that, because my parents were not interested in reading or even helping me learn to read. She was my favorite teacher btw. 😊 Because I remember what she did I try to do the same for my kids.

Same! I was just talking to a grade school friend recently about our favorite teacher who is why I have such a passion for reading today. 🥰

Thank you for this. I'm trying to teach my soon to be 5 year old to read with phonics, and she does not like it 😂. But she loves listening to me read aloud to her, and i do catch her trying to sound out random words on items in the house. I like the Easy peasy Curriculum. I will use their reader as a read aloud book along with some history read aloud picks and let her pick the rest of her books 📚 ❤

It is so true what you said about physical books versus audiobooks. Two of my daughters learned to read exclusively by following my finger while I read to them. My third daughter had an undiagnosed vision problem and learned to just listen to the stories because the words were blurry. So now that she has her glasses it has been an uphill battle to get her to focus on looking at the words but we are making progress.

I am one of those people. I was forced to read and real well however I haven’t picked up a book for pleasure in YEARS! I wish I could be like these people I see on instagram that have these beautiful, colorful book shelves … im Going to try to read more to my children

I love that you’re going to try reading more to your kids! Please don’t feel like you have to be like the people on Instagram that have the colorful bookshelves. I think they look beautiful, too, but I read every single day without those shelves.

Thanks so much, I loved hearing this, my little guys went to kindergarten and now they act like they don’t want to be read to, for some reason. I will keep reading to them, and taking tips to the library, so they can choose. I have to say before school started and in the first two months they would get a book and want me to read or they would look at books on their own, so hope I can get them interested again.

Thank you so much for this video. I'm struggling to teach ny oldest to read. It feels like a chore for both of us so I've backed off. I feel like I inherently knew everything you mentioned in this video but it seemed too simple. We'll go back to basics and just read together. Thanks for the reminder to trust my mama intuition

This was ao helpful, thank you! We're just starting our homeschool journey with our new kindergartner, and I'm most nervous about teaching her to read. We do many of these things already (I'm an avid reader and we have always read a lot together!!), but do you have any suggestions for a little who is still learning letter sounds? I'm not sure how to get to sounding words out when she doesn't know all of the letter sounds yet. Any tips would be so appreciated, thank you!!

This does not work for everyone. I have done all of these and at 8 1/2 my son cannot read. We are now doing a traditional curriculum to help him learn to read. He is happy to do it as he really wants to read. Just encouragement for those whose children may not learn to read with ease.

I went through 100 easy lessons with my middle son when he was 6-7 and he could kinda read after finishing it but he had a hard time progressing behond that. Come to find out by about 8 I figured out he had dyslexia. He need extra tutoring for a couple years, now he reads very well. Look into symptoms of dislexia if your child doesn't progress past a certain age.

Beth! I remember watching one of your videos where you introduced some educational books for kids that are high quality, that cover broad topics such as Ancient Egypt etc...(were they Smithsonian books?) Do you remember what the name of those books were, if you happen to remember what I'm referring to?

If the parent reads to the child, but the child still resists the desire to learn, then what? How “ too late” is too late? Will learning to read at age 10-12 affect the future of the child
@BethPavlik
@BethPavlik Жыл бұрын
It’s never too late and no, it won’t affect their future. Everyone learns to read at different ages if they are given the chance to learn when they’re ready. Have you asked your child why they don’t want to learn to read?

We must be the anomaly 😅 my mom used to read to me all the time and I hated every minute of it (I was unschooled). I would ask her to stop or I would just roll over and take a nap so I wouldnt have to listen 😅 to this day I maybe read one book a year and I never read to my kids, but my older kids that can read spend basically all their free time reading. I still dont understand why someone would want to waste their time sitting and reading but they all enjoy it. 😅 I have to often tell my kids to put the books away and go live their life or they would do it all day.

One more important thing to add, keep your child away from screens. All these good tips won't work if the child gets hooked on screens.
