I'm going to give this method a try as a cross check if nothing else. In the past what I've done is just stand the bike upj/lean against a wall and pedal backwards with my arch on the pedal, making adjustments to be at full are almost completely full extension. I never have gone back an actually measured the spacing afterward which is something I can see I should have done. Update: After measuring and checking the measurement against the current saddle height, they are identical. It's nice to know that the two methods agree so closely.

.. if I have to choose between too high or too low, I personally take the latter. Too high can dangerous especially for the elder rider like me. I feel that a bit on the low side is a lot safer/ more comfortable than being a bit too high. Ride safe and have fun 😀.

I see more people with there saddles too short rather then to high. I do it by putting the heel of my foot on the Pedal and set it to where I’m not quiet locked out my knee joint. Works like a charm.
@carlitomelon4610
@carlitomelon4610 Жыл бұрын
I think the broomstick and tape measure's unnecessary. Heel to extended pedal (4.00min) is all I've used for 30+ years. Just pedal backwards with both heels in this position to make sure your hips aren't rocking , which would indicate you're still too high. Love them droppers! 😊 *PS (Use the tape measure to record results for your other bikes. This leaves the broom free to sweep up the shop ;-)

For me the simplest way is to make adjustment if there is knee pain… if it’s there, the saddle is too low(not too high as the video says)

If I do this with this method my leg is bend quite a lot by the end of the stroke. And even if I put the heels on the pedals my legs are still bend. If I do it by the extended leg method with the heel on the pedal, my saddle needs to be 9 cm higher than my inseam is long. I dont understand. I really want to dial in my saddle hight, because my uphill pedaling sucks. But it is pretty hard with these half baked measurement methods. Do you have any tips , except a expensive bike fitter ? Great Video, great channel, great products ( bought your jerseys) but this video and the one from neil from 2015 are no help at all to find my saddle hight.

Isn’t there a more direct assessment that could be made be having someone take a video of you while you’re riding and then pause it at full extension and use some precut pieces of paper to check leg angle (I don’t even know what optimum is - around 165 deg maybe?). Then all these variables (where you sit on the seat, stack height of shoes at heel vs toes, etc.) are taken care of. I’ll have to try that myself.

I discovered that a combination of adjusting my saddle height and buying 20mm titanium pedal spacers did wonders for me. I do recommend doing some research on your crank arms and checking if pedal spacers will work with them since I noticed that the extra 20mm space from the crank to the pedal is putting alot of stress on the screw hole for the pedals and is slowly starting to warp the screw hole in my cranks, I do have a cheap $50 IXF crankset though.

@Da5idc

I still believe in the Greg leMond method to measure to the axle because you're exerting maximum force when the crank arm is horizontal An exception is if you aren't flexible and your hips are rocking when you pedal Also look at the Peak Torque channel - he has a great video analysing crank arm length

@fredman1085
@fredman1085 Жыл бұрын
Looks easy but with that adjustment measured with your leg fully extended, wouldn't that mean your leg is fully extended when at the bottom of your pedal stroke? I'm old but in my "boomer" days, we always wanted a little bend in the knees when at bottom of the pedal stroke.
@orbanzsozso
@orbanzsozso Жыл бұрын
Measuring that way will still leave a little bend in your knee, since you are also flexing/bending your ankle when pedalling, and that length was not taken in the initial measurement. That's why the inseam measurement is a good starting point, but some fine tuning might be needed depending on where you put your feets on the pedal and your pedalling style.
