I had a purchase so far off of what I was supposed to receive I was concerned that I was deceived on them being real natural stone beads as advertised. Thank you for this video!! It taught me what I needed and much more information that will be helpful as i own and run a jewlery making business on top of my other businesses. I'm fairly new to it, so knowing how to tell the difference between the 3 most common materials for beads I buy and use!! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 thank you for being so thorough, explaining things clearly and simply, as well as having various types to comparatively show us! I'm a visual learner for sure and this is a PERFECT video to learn how to identify the material a bead is made from. I'm super happy to learn that the last pack of stone beads I bought are genuine and real, even though it was supposed to be 1200 count and I received less than 1,000 and half I did get were much smaller than 6mm so I'm not sure what to do with them yet. 😅 thank you SO SO much for taking the time to make this video!! I'm so much more appreciative than you will ever know! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 I cant tell you how fast i subscribed to your channel and made sure i will get ALL notifications of your posts/videos! 🥰

Some of the more expensive glass beads (higher quality) have flat holes. The glass with white centers are lampwork beads. (The glass is melted on a rod that is spun in a circle to create the bead). I have been told that stone beads are colder than glass if that helps.

Oh no I’m so sorry!! That’s terrible that they sold you plastic beads when advertised to be glass! Check one more time and put them into water if they Float they are definitely plastic. If they sink they may be glass. With Swarovski crystals they are cut flat at the end where the hole is, like a gemstone. Also they will feel cold when put to your lips. So find a bead you know is plastic and one you know is glass and feel on your lip the temperature of them. Glass, gemstone & crystal will be much colder than plastic. I hope i was helpful, Suzie :)

I can tell it’s either Porcelin or glass but I don’t want to immerse it in water and ruin it as it has lovely individual Stirling silver flowers in between each bead and is a little heavy but no inscription on the silver and it’s definitely Stirling Silver. It doesn’t have the silver caps on each bead though and it looks more like stencils than hand painted since they’re identical and one appears to have rubbed off a little. Boone would know unless it was looked at very closely in an inspection but to wear its lovely. Either going to keep it, give it as a gift or sell but just wanna know what it is! TY for sharing❣️

TFS your info in this video. I have a collecion of beads from various sources, including some from granny and great grandma,plus some modern ones from auctions and thrift stores. I did the 'burn' test, both on suspect beads and some I thought to be good quality. Sure enough, the plastic/resin burnt and the others didn't. However, I have some pearlised finish ones that didn't burn, but broke apart in layers, retaining the pearl look - any ideas on these? I would appreciate your opinion on these. Greetings from Shropshire in England x

Hi, This is a great tutorial. But can I ask you a question? In my country, gemstones in a bracelet or bead form are way cheaper than in a ring form (for ring). Can you explain why?
@CannaNoir
@CannaNoir 2 жыл бұрын
I believe lower grades are used for beads, much higher grades are for high end jewlery like rings. Also they use pure sterling silver, gold, and/or other valuable precious metals, not generally silver PLATED or cheaper metals such as copper, etc and other more common and less costing metal for setting if any metal is used at all in bracelets. A LARGE portion of bead bracelets are made using stretch cord which is EXTREMELY cheap to buy. I paid over 20 bucks for 5ft of pure sterling silver wire. 5 FEET. And it's 22 Guage, which is very thin, especially compared to the metal weight in the average ring. But like I said first, I believe it's MOSTLY such a big difference in cost because the grade/quality of the stones/gems/crystals etc being used for the jewlery. 😁😌 also, a lot of fakes are sold as real, and a lot of beads sold are not the amount stated in the listing, on a website, sold at shops, etc. I've bought beads from Amazon with sellers with EXCELLENT ratings even. And have only gotten half the purchases I've made for beads and jewlery making supplies be the proper amount as stated in the listing. So, I would recommend counting your beads if you buy them online or from a store you never shopped at, or haven't shopped there enough to say you trust them 100%.
@CannaNoir
@CannaNoir 2 жыл бұрын
I don't know if what I ordered in the beginning of me making jewlery were the right amount, tbh. I wonder how many times I've bought beads and not gotten all that I pay for or not. I'm counting them all from now on after having such an awful purchase that's so far off from the listing as this was. The only reason thought to take a closer look and noticed it was likely not the right amount was because they were not all filled to even close to the same level as all the beads... one was 31 beads, barely over half of the 50 it is supposed to have been, and was so noticeably less than the rest that i counted to make sure I wasn't seeing things or the beads were so different in size that it was that easy and visible that there weren't the correct number of beads.. they shorted me so bad I couldn't help but to notice it. Lol it wasn't even a good job shorting me since I noticed so fast. 🤷🏼‍♀️ that's not even a good thief. 🤣 I looked at the lowest reviews and a lot of people (30 in 12 months) noticed they didn't get the right amount, and a few mention sizes being wrong as well from this 1 seller I'm talking about. Since they lied about amount, size and pretty much the whole purchase from them, I'm not sure if they are all real or not anymore.. it's how I ended up here to see every way to test or tell the difference because I'm gonna be very upset over it if they turn out to be fake on top of all the rest of the inaccuracies/lies. 😔😮‍💨
@CannaNoir
@CannaNoir 2 жыл бұрын
Also, the stone has to be cut precisely to look good in a ring, has to be faceted for the setting of said stone etc and the metal work, if done by hand (USUALLY in a forge with metal, heat, and anvil and hammer), will be a lot more because it involves much more time to make and make it beautiful and good long lasting quality. It's a craft, a form of art, metal work or making most jewlery. A beaded bracelet is so easy to make. I can make one in just a few minutes! If the beads are small, I use spacers, add bracelet clasps or other findings for bracelet ends instead of only a stretch cord or stretch cloth cords, it could take as long as 10 or 15 minutes.a simple ring, including cutting, polishing, and faceting the gemstone as well as mold the metal for the ring, it takes HOURS or even DAYS depending on the details, and intricacies it might have. Metal has to be heated, formed, cooled, heated, formed, cooled, then they heat to a specific temp range, and cool it a certain way, at a certain speed to make it harder or softer metal.

Dawna Brown hi thank you for swatching! Real pearls do not peal or chip off like paint, natural colored real pearls are naturally colored and come in many different colors. If there pealing or chipping off there most likely glass. It’s very common for vintage glass pearl beads to chip or peal. I’m sorry for the bad news.
