Thank you so much. For years I've watched drywallers add water to the mud and I could never figure out how much to put in. Like you said, they like to show you the consistency of it, but for inexperienced people, that doesn't help. I knew there had to be a "formula" somewhere. You have no idea how this video helped me. Something this simple, can make a tremendous difference. Thank you again!!

Great to hear!

They may add water to it for skimming walls but you should absolutely not water it down for joints

Thank you for the detailed formula, that is what I was looking for. Good job.

Thank you for the water tip. I almost threw a whole container way of mud because I thought something was wrong with it, and all it needed was water .... thank you 👍

Hah, yeah same here. I think I learned today that mixing red and green lid is no bueno and now I have to re-sand and seal the ceiling section I was trying to tape

I wish you show the final consistency

Better to use all purpose (green bucket) for taping. It has glue which improves the bond of the tape over joints. Alternatively, you can add wood glue to this (plus3) and have a similar product. Plus3 is best for finish coats

Add one 500 mL bottle of water to the entire bucket of mud and mix. Perfect for taping or first coat applications.

I just wanted to see the consistency.

Can I use plus 3 same compound you have in video to patch scratches in wall?
@eddo19832 ай бұрын
Yeah it works just fine for patching
@Pilottoproperties4 ай бұрын
If you mix the entire bucket with water is the bucket then always good to go if you need it a couple days later or do you have to add water each time ?
@addismultitasking35044 ай бұрын
Youll have to add a little

It would have helped if I knew the amount of compound in ounces. I needed ratio for smaller job. Approx 1 pint of compound. Still don't know how much water to mix.

Yeah, this guy didn’t do much better than the other videos that he was complaining about

It's like baking from scratch. Consistency bc all premixed are different thickness to start with so you just add a little at a time

So, if I fill a HD 5 gallon bucket to approximate depth of 2 inches, then add the 1 cup of water, can I skip the mud pan?
@addismultitasking35046 ай бұрын
yeah, the mud pan is for convenience.

Any other way to mix other than drill and paddle?
@addismultitasking3504 Жыл бұрын
Mix by hand with a small trowel

I use the compound straight from the bucket and now I know why my jointing looks terrible.
@addismultitasking3504Ай бұрын
Way to thick from the bucket

I get what you’re trying to convey here, but I gotta disagree. If you’re going to go through all the trouble of using a paddle, a pan, a bucket, a drill, and a mixer you’re probably better off just buying the bag and mixing it. It’s cheaper too.
@addismultitasking3504 Жыл бұрын
yes, but I figured this way is more calculated for beginners to get the mixture right

Quick set is great for patching. U don't want to use it for the final skim though. U want to use this kind of mud.
