Want to know a fishing knot that's strong, easy to tie and has a great design?
We wanted to show you our favorite loop knot - the Non-Slip Loop Knot. This knot is also known as the Kreh Loop.
You can see the full tutorial and download the PDF document on how to tie this knot here:
www.saltstrong.com/articles/n...
This knot is perfect for terminal connection knots. I love it for topwater plugs and other artificial lures because it gives them great action in the water.
The tag end of the knot points back toward the lure, which keeps it from grabbing grass and other debris in the water.

It's the same non-slip knot I use for fly fishing lures to give them better action. This is a good refresher since I haven't gone fly fishing for 2 years. Good demonstration, easy to understand, but there are some people here confused who need clearer explanation about running the tag end back through the loop 2X. Very important when finished is that the tag end points downward towards the lure.

You have some really good information in our links. I do have a comment on your "Cons" for the FG knot. I have been fishing this knot for a long time now. One of my favorite set ups is 65 LBS braid with a 40 LBS Fluorocarbon leader. 40 LBS is the lightest that I will ever tie to the 65 LBS braid. So you can definitely tie the FG with the leader being lighter. With that being said, you have to tie a longer knot when doing this or you will have a failure or two. I have landed more than a few 100 pound halibut using this set up. Largest on this was just under 150# out of Seward AK. I will agree that you do not want to tie 100# braid to 20# mono or fluoro. But if you stay close with the tests and double the amount of hitches in the knot it out performs every knot I have run across. I wish the internet, and your links would have been around 35 or so years ago. It would have saved me so much time. Again GREAT INFO. Was looking at the haywire knot, have an upcoming Mexico trip and we just do not use Wire up here. Your video was the next in line. Just had to look at your links. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us!

Great tutorial and easy to follow. Thanks guys! If not using a weedless lure I'd thing the tag end is the least of the problems with those big hooks collecting weeds, grass etc. But having the tag pointing back protects the knot from bumps etc and on a weedless setup fishing through weedy terrain would give you that little more protection. I love how this knot allows that little bit of extra movement at the lure end, especially if using a stiffer leader. Negates the need for an articulating lure clip.

I use this knot when hanging my ultralight hammock. I attached rings to the ends of the hammock. So now I link the hammock to the line with a carabiner that's at the end of this knot. At the tree end, I use a trucker hitch. Since both cinch down stronger under tension, I know they won't fail & drop me to the ground. Just thought your viewers would like to know the Non-slip Loop is useful for more than fishing. 😉
@theowenssailingdiary5239
@theowenssailingdiary5239 2 жыл бұрын
Can you undo that though? Could you use a bowline?
@KimberlyGreen
@KimberlyGreen 2 жыл бұрын
@@theowenssailingdiary5239 Short answer: yes and yes. Longer answer: It depends on a few factors. • How permanent do you want things to be? If you expect to untie something, then sure, a bowline is probably a good choice. I don't plan on removing the rings because they are intended to be permanent anchor points. • What kind of load are you putting on the knot? The more load you put on a non-slip the harder it tightens down. The tighter the knot, the harder it is to untie it, maybe even requiring tools like a pick or pliers. • What kind of line are you using? The smaller the diameter, the harder it will be to get a good grasp to pull on. For example, my hammock rings use a 2mm thick dyneema line. And it bears a fairly notable load. Very difficult to untie, but doable in a pinch because dyneema has some slippery properties. It would be easier to just cut & re-tie. But I want it to be permanent, so no need. On the other hand, I also use this knot to hang my birdfeeders. There, I use 550 paracord. The line is thicker, the load is much lighter and I may need to undo the knot if the line breaks short. When I was throwing the line over the branch, I used a heavy object with a hoop and tied a non-slip to it. After the line was over the branch, I easily undid the non-slip. (And I didn't have to worry about the knot tail getting caught on the branch as I lowered the line down through the branches.) I still used the non-slip for the end of the rope hang because the feeders are fairly heavy and I don't want the knot to eventually give out. I attach the actual feeder to the knot via an S carabiner. By your user name it seems you're a sailor. You could use this knot on an anchor. If the anchor hooked hard on something and the load increased, this knot will bear down and won't come off the anchor. And the knot tail wouldn't get gummed up in reeds, etc. But if your rope is fairly thick, you could still untie it if you wanted to.
@theowenssailingdiary5239
@theowenssailingdiary5239 2 жыл бұрын
@@KimberlyGreen I thought you would be untying the rings when packing up is all. Not recommended for an anchor though. Sounds like you know your stuff. Enjoy!!

After feeding the tag end back through the loop I pull the main line ONLY, which snugs the knot into a position that maintains loop diameter. THEN pull the tag end to finish tightening the knot. And with 10-12# line two wraps of the tag work fine, keeping knot profile as small as possible. Great knot and the only one I ever use on artificial baits........Palomar for single hook rigs.

Important!! Its very important to not let go of the tag end tightening it down. Snug that up too! It should look like a nicely tied clinch knot jamming down against that overhand knot evenly touching and side by side. Nudge it down with your fingers if you need to. That is the foundation of a lot of its strength. Like the barrel part of a hangman's noose. Pulling the main line tightens the overhand, and pulling the tag tightens the clinch looking part. Great video! Sorry to preach but I didn't want anyone to lose a big one. Good luck folks!

@@Saltstrong I'm an avid Bass Fisherman for both Largemouth and Smallmouth and usually use a Palamar Knot for darn near everything but I believe this Loop Knot will improve the action of topwater Frogs. Do you think it could be tied with Braid..?
@Saltstrong
@Saltstrong 5 жыл бұрын
@@Duschbag I would not trust this loop knot with braid because it would likely slip once under pressure. Also, given how limp and thin braid is, I wouldn't worry about making a loop knot if you tie directly to the frog because the water drag is so small that it wouldn't make much of a difference in the retrieve. Note: I recommend always using a mono/fluoro leader in between the braid and lure because fish can def see braid easier... especially when looking up towards the sky (hopefully you're at least matching the color of the braid to the sky).

For fly fishers, tying this same non-slip loop knot knot to connect the fisher's fly to the end of the tippet has an added added benefit; it gives the fly 50% more lifelike action in the water, when compared to tying the same fly to the same tippet instead using an improved clinch knot. Knowledge is power: I am confident to say that this little change in knot strategy will translate directly to hooking and landing significantly more fish for the average weekend warrior out at his favourite lake or stream. Of course, the same is true for fishers casting or trolling live bait like herring plugs for salmon or artificial lures like spinners, spoons, or crankbaits for trout and bass.
