I installed this optic on a crossman 760 air rifle.I have now shot the riffle around 500 times during target/plinking practice, and the kzfaq.infoUgkxc4K63Fd5LglDMObu7-Bgapxp_ef0W8hE scope has done well.With this optic, I have neutralized around 30 pigeons that were invading one of my buildings.For my short range air rifle, I will continue to use this scope, but will be upgrading to a more powerful scope, when I buy a more powerful air rifle, in order to shoot at longer distance.For the money I have spent, this scope has truly been a great buy.

Hello! I own the diamondback tactical... on my first use I think I overtighted the mounts and parallx knob was not tracking but after I loose the screws, the parallx knob worked fine... do you think the scope has a permanent damage? Or it’s ok? I’m nervous thinking that may be I cause some damage in the scope. But when I use it, looks fine.

How do you know if you've over tightened? I tightened my Viper HS LR to 21 ft/lbs because it kept sliding around in the rings (Talley rings). I also wish you all would bring back the Vortex Precision Rings. Those rings are the best I have ever used!! From the moment I tightened them down I had zero problem, as opposed to numerous other brands including some very high priced ones.
@VortexOpticsUSA
@VortexOpticsUSA 4 жыл бұрын
Assuming you mean 21 inch pounds? 21 ft pounds would be far too much and would crush the scope. There's no reason to need to go over our recommended 15-18 inch pounds unless the rings are not making good contact on the scope tube. In which case, you shouldn't torque it harder, but address the issue with the rings. If you're using a two piece set of rings, they will likely need to be properly lapped in order to make good contact around the scope tube and avoid slipping when torque to spec. Not sure what you're referring to regarding a discontinuation to the precision matched rings? Those are still around and very current.

Sounds like ur rings are not the proper size for ur optic tube. Get u a better set of rings that are for ur correct tube diameter and u shouldn't ever have an issue. I have shot some pretty large caliber rifles using these tq specs and have never had an optic come loose or move around.

How much "overtorque" can damage the optic? I've installed aluminium rings on my Razor 1-6 and used torque wrench that turned out to be badly calibrated and when second checking, it seems to have been be fastened to about 20 in-lbs.

I have torqued to 30 -35 with no issues. Just feels so much more secure.. Remember, these screws can't take much more than 35 period. I might tone it down to 20-25 inch pounds from now on.

Ryan, is the torque value different depending on how many screws fasten the upper ring half to the lower? The rings you're showing have 2 screws on each side. My DNZ Game Reaper only has 1 screw on each side. Wouldn't I need to torque further for the same clamping pressure?

Is 24 inch pounds way to tight? I had a buddy of mine mount my new Strike Eagle 6-24x50 on my Savage 7mm. He said he's torqued his scopes to 24in pounds for years with no issues. I explained to him that the spec was 18. Do you think 6 more inch pounds would damage the scope?
@dougwilliams44
@dougwilliams44 5 жыл бұрын
I'd say probably YES, too tight. I go by the instructions. 18 in/Lbs max. May not have damaged it, since it's a VORTEX, if you can never get it sighted and "Hold a Zero", you can send it in. They will repair it. Hope that helps. I doubt 6 in/Lbs damaged it, but I'd back them off for sure!!

Hello, Could you please let me know how understand what is the proper torque spec for particular rings and scope? Do I need to ask that to ring producer or scope producer? I damaged CZ scope with CZ rings and as I understand because of over torque. Now I purchase new 1 inch Nikon scope for .22 LR calibre but want to keep my CZ steel rings. Rifle - CZ 455, .22 LR calibre Rings - CZ 1 inch diameter. Scope: Nikon P-Rimfire 2-7x32 Matte BDC 150 Many Thanks in advance.

I have the vortex Professional Series vertical split rings. I am using the wheeler professional scope leveling kit. I am following the instructions and when I am tightening the bottom screws it twists the scope to the left off of Center. I have mounted many scopes, this is my first time using vertical split rings. I am now trying to twist the scope further to the right from Center so that when I turn the bottom screws to their proper poundage it will hopefully line the scope in the center lined up centered with the bubble. I am slowly turning the screws a quarter-turn at a time does anybody have any tips on how to keep the scope from twisting to the left? I feel like I am regretting purchasing these Vortex vertical split rings.

Why would applying locktite have any impact on tq? It simply just holds the tq you set.
@gaetandenis9672
@gaetandenis9672 6 жыл бұрын
RSLewis The problem with Loctite and other glue is that you’re get a false torque read. The torque should be applied on the surface of the head of the screw, but by adding compound on the thread, you add friction, which generate torque. It’s like trying to set a specific torque on a damaged screw.
@mopar21
@mopar21 6 жыл бұрын
Gaëtan Denis false, applying any lube, oil, thread locker and so on eliminates friction. Torque is a ballpark to set tension on the threads. When you add any liquid to the threads it takes less torque to apply the same amount of tension. Torque specs are recommended for clean dry new threads. Adding a lube can increase actual tension by up to 40-50%. Don't give advice if you don't know the correct answer.

@VortexOpticsUSA

Simply hand tightening them is an almost sure way to over-tighten those ring screws. We would recommend finding an in/lbs torque wrench or taking it to a gunsmith that has one.

Why do you max the torque wrench at 50 when other applications on the gun take over 60
@VortexOpticsUSA
@VortexOpticsUSA 5 жыл бұрын
Our torque wrench is designed primarily for riflescope mounting in mind, and it's really great for that application! If you wanted more of a "do-all" option, you'd likely have to do some research to find something that has a wider in/lbs variation, but for scope mounting, this one should have you covered!

Good - there should be a gap! That's designed in the rings to allow for slight tolerance differences. *Do not* try to fully close the ring gaps ever - that will make the rings far too tight. Hope this helps!

You’re supposed to let it click 3 times when it reaches the set torque. Your only letting it click once and while I am sure it will be ok, it isn’t the 100% correct way of doing it according to the manufacturer instructions. And yes I know it’s a vortex product and he works for vortex but that’s a rebranded capri tools torque wrench driver. Little side note. He is correct, threadlocker is not necessary, they will stay in place but if your anal and want to use it, make sure it’s the purple stuff. And when using threadlocker you should decrease torque values 20%-25%
