There are places on the bucket lid to make 1/4-1/2” cuts. This allows the lid to slide over the lip on the bucket. Ive hung wallpaper for 43 years, and it took me a long time to finally figured out what those places on the lid were for. I love your videos and have watched quite a few. When I prepped for wallpaper, I had to float walls and fix joints. I wasn’t very fast but I learned a lot watching the videos. Now I’m going to tape and float my sons kitchen. Thanks again!

Well done brother. I'm looking forward to doing my own backsplash for my kitchen. It's amazing how something so relatively simple and easy to do, can be so costly for homebuyers who are duped by their builders to take their cheap products and very little labour as upgrades. 😒 Thanks again for your help brother. This man knows what he's doing. I learned from a tile man (brother-in-law) exactly how they really do a tile job whether it's flooring, showers, or back splashes and from what I see on this video and Jeff's other videos they most closely match what I learned from him. Right down to using an angle grinder with a diamond blade to make smaller cuts and using a cheap tile scoring cutter for the larger cuts.

Jeff, you can open that can top easier by cutting the slots on the cover with a blade, then it's easy to remove the top..Same for paint buckets, removing the tops..they also have a special tool with a hook, that grabs the cover after you cut the slots and pulls it up easily :)..You are doing a great job :) !!

I was a professional house painter for 49 yrs. And though I didn't like getting roped into all around handyman style jobs, I would occasionally let my guard down and say yes to things outside of my usual realm of services offered. Kind of depended on just how much there was to it. I only did a few small tile jobs in my day, and so can't say I'm knowledgeable in the field. I do however appreciate just how cool that primer you used to get the new tile to bond was, and i really also liked that mastic, you're right, it's thick and yet has an open time which keeps it from setting too quickly! There's nothing like a little wiggle room that you get from a forgiving product that allows room for mistakes or just playing around with it until you've got it exactly like you like it. The glue gun is also a nice touch for quick and and easy installation of your aluminum trim! Overall, a very smooth and slick job, altogether!looked good and I enjoyed learning about the new technology, as you put it! Keep 'em coming.

StarrTile Over a floor is one thing but a tile on a backsplash is much safer if the tile your going over is flat not loose and with primer etc.. plus there is zero foot traffic on the area obviously... not like a floor which I’ve tiled over meself before and i think You have a video we’re you tiled over floor tile aswell if I’m not mistaken.. all depend on the job an circumstances of the underneath tile etc.. I like some of yr vids buddy and your honesty in critiquing yr own bathroom which would do my head in with some of the decisions you made but something tells me you got most of them materials FREE.. and used what you had.. available...😉👍

Great Vid!! I'm gonna try to do the same! 2 questions: 1) If you didn't want to mix your own mortar - what adhesive would one use for over tile and 2) if the adhesive is used - then would there still be a need to roll on that greyish product? Pls show the finished product with grouting and cleaning /caulking video. Thank you so much!!!

i was about to take a sledgehammer to my kitchen wall until i saw your video. I can't thank you enough for posting this. This has saved me tons of work taking out the wall with the tile that was absolutely not wanted to be seperated from this drywall :) AND putting a new drywall in... I will embark on this project tiling over the old stuff!!! Thanks again for your funny insightfull video's - you are awesome!

These videos are great! Question: the cement, is that one you could use in a shower, too? In an effort to safe on buying multiple adhesive compounds.

those bucket lids have indentations, if you razor down through those indentation to the edge the lid comes off much easier.

Fantastic video! You've inspired me to tackle my backsplash myself! However I've got 1"x2" glass tile with a lot of wide grout lines - is it the same procedure?

People look at me as if I was crazy when I told them that I was installing my new Mosiac Tile over the existing tile. Regardless of what opinions I was hearing I went ahead and bought the Eco Prime Grip and tried your method, and let me tell you, it worked out GREAT! The EPG really does stick to non-porous material and adhesive mortar by Mapei bonded to it great as well. Really happy about the results. Thanks for taking the time in teaching us on how to do the almost impossible. P.S. I also left the power on, yikes lol!

Hello Joe, what tile was originally on the wall? I put on marble mosaic with the incorrect mortar and grout and it totally changed the tile. (DISTORTED, MULTILATED, DISCOLOURED, CORRUPTED) so now I want to put the same tile over it with improve mortar and grout. I'm worried it will be too thick, but after 10 months of looking for tile, this tile goes really well with my refaced cupboards and new laminate countertop so I would love to keep this. Maybe I should take it all out and redo? Do you think subway tile would be a better choice over the marble mosaic? Would greatly appreciate hearing from you. I am still waiting to hear from Jeff too.

I have an opener for those type bucket lids. It's called an 'ABN Plastic 5 Gallon Paint Bucket Lid Opener'. They come in different sizes. I suggest you ask the store where you purchased the Prim Grip if they carry the opener. It resembles a large (beer) bottle opener. Unless one of your other subscribers has a better answer, and I know you contractors always have great ideas for these things, I will gladly order one for you. Like always, I learned a lot from you, Jeff. You know, it's not just what I'm learning, it's also that you have an enjoyable personality. Thank you! Max, you're getting so good at these videos. You and Jeff make the best team. Can't wait for the live videos!

sounds great. I will have to get one. Sometimes I just depend on sheer Brut strength but alas it is not necessary. Cheers Sandy!

Yes, I've noticed all that brute strength you've been displaying lately. I'm impressed!!!! I'd be even more impressed if I knew you had health insurance! ;-) I've also noticed some of your subs telling you to do this and that about the lid. What about those times when you need to re-seal the bucket? My lid opener came from Augason Farms. It's $9.99. But it's bigger and more sturdy than the others I've seen on the web. Get it. Consider it another useful tool. Besides, every time you use it, you can think about me trying to save you from a self induced heart attack. (Notice how polite I'm being? Not once have I called you an old fart. I haven't forgotten that you called me the matriarch of the family!)

My existing back-splash is sheet arborite or formica (same as and matched the old counters) which is very well adhered to a plaster & lathe wall. Probably installed in the late 60's. The formica sheet even extends under the upper cabinets, so I'd have to start by cutting it out with a multi-tool. Plaster & lathe removal is much nastier than drywall removal and then I'd have to deal with the thickness differences to install new drywall. Until now, that's why I have never replaced it. Would the MAPEI Eco Prim Grip work as well over the formica for a back-splash tile similar to yours?
